BA (Hons) Fashion: Design & Technology (Top Up)

MH Shoes This portfolio was developed as part of my graduation project for the course BA(Hons) in Fasion: Design Technology, with major in Footwear, at the London College of Fashion (2010-2013). Michele Hartmann Shoes is a brand that has been conceived for a modern, confident and independent woman, who is a leader, not a follower. INSPIRATION “I am not attracted to straight angles or to the straight line, hard and inflexible, created by man. I am attracted to free-flowing, sensual curves. The curves that I find in the mountains of my country, in the sinuousness of its rivers, in the waves of the ocean, and on the body of the beloved woman”. Oscar Niemeyer (1907 - 2012) Architect who recreated Brazil’s sensuous curves in reinforced concrete and built the capital of Brasilia on the empty central plains as a symbol of the nation’s future. www.lindseytaitdesign.com e: lindseytaitdesign@mail.com A curious and diligent designer who takes inspiration from many sources including life experiences, anatomy, the fantastical and the unknown. The aim of lindseytait design is to use fashion and its influence as a channel to raise awareness of social issues and to make a difference. The brand is dedicated to having a social responsibility as well as producing superior quality crafted pieces that are one of a kind and make a statement. Striving for perfection, attention to detail is key as well as finding new and exciting ways to create, while incorporating traditional artisan techniques to produce beautifully finished products. Looking to modern technology to influence design and to push the boundaries of ‘fashion’, lindseytait design hopes to bring accessory design to new levels of what can be achieved. The graduate collection ‘skin deep’ is influenced by the issue of self-harm: the stigma associated with it and the restriction of the body to prevent harming. It was key that the pieces should be beautiful as well as provocative in order to raise awareness, yet still be products that can be worn with attraction rather than the ‘ugliness’ of self-harm. Using an intricate cherry-blossom pattern laser etched into the lining (which sits close against the skin) is significant as the cherry-blossom flower represents feminine strength and sexuality. This soft and beautiful leather etched lining is juxtaposed against the strong VegTan exterior that provides a shield-like mould around various parts of the body. Each piece is fully functional, despite being conceptual rather than commercial. Born in a small town in Northern Ireland, Lindsey showed a strong passion for art and craft from a young age, which soon flourished into a love for fashion design. While completing her Foundation Diploma, Lindsey’s keen attention to detail and interest in accessories became apparent, leading to her relocation to London to attend London College of Fashion. Lindsey intends to remain in London to continue growing as a designer and to also expand her knowledge of fashion design and construction into apparel – although her main focus still remains on creating innovative and provocative fashion accessories. BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery

Born in Israel, Liron Kliger is a London based jewellery designer who graduated a BA (HON) in Jewellery Fashion Design at the London College of Fashion. Liron developed a passion for jewellery design whilst completing a foundation in fashion design course at West London College, Liron developed a love for raw materials and desire to create unique pieces encompassing the form and essence of the material used. The primary influence on Liron’s work (apart from the raw materials) evolved from years spent living and travelling in cosmopolitan cities including Barcelona, Paris, Milan and Tel Aviv. Liron was exposed cultural idiosyncrasies which in turn influenced the way in which she combines / uses materials and their subsequent adaptation to her needs. Liron’s latest project developed from a fascination with snakeskin and infatuation with catwalk pieces; motivating her to create her own interpretation via snakeskin inspired bangles. Liron’s previous catwalk projects include a large feathered neck piece and oversized dice jewellery. In the foundation year of her BA Liron was awarded third place in the UK in a competition run by the Metro newspaper for her creation of a jewellery body suit utilising recycled materials. | ABOUT | Empire of the Clouds is a dramatic futuristic representation of aviation achievements, throughout the past, present and future. Inspired by the true design innovation and achievement from machines of flight throughout the entirety of the concept. Focusing on model making to gain a unique perspective and develop an understanding of the overwhelming human drive, almost obsession, to achieve what we cannot do naturally, to fly. Passionate about research Buchanan has a meticulous attitude towards uncovering all elements in a concept. In this collection it enabled a distinctive perspective to a large subject, creating a concept based around model making and accessibility of a globally collective dream. Through innovative use of materials and conceptual pattern cutting, Buchanan has achieved striking shapes and confident structural lines, reflecting the impressive machines that inspired. Fascination with the utterly indescribable, near magical, machines that are so integrated, ordinary and standardised, motivated a need to highlight what a truly extraordinary achievement flight, both modern and historical actually is. The simple fact that more is known about space and our surrounding atmosphere than the depths of our own oceans, demonstrates so clearly what a shared and magnificent dream flight has, and always will be. | PRESS | Awarded Most Successful 3-way Collaboration on Fashion156.com in a Graduate showcase week for the BA13 Press Show collection. www.jessicahearnshaw.com Jessica Hearnshaw is an Accessories Designer based in London who's focus is around the design and craftsmanship of high quality conceptual leather goods. This collection’s focus is on accessories that have a integral relationship to what they contain. That are as fascinating to unwrap, as a gift is to open. Inspired specifically by traditional japanese packaging which has a strong minimalist aesthetic. A key notion of japanese packaging is that the gift and the act of unwrapping the gift, is just as important as what is inside. This art form would wrap a given object in whatever materials lay at hand. The outcome was often not only practical for storage and transporting the object but also produced a simple beautiful shape free of all excess and extravagance ----------------------------------------------- Credits: Images 1 - 5: Art Director: Benjamin Thapa, Photographer: Giulia Zucchetti, Model: Max @ Profile, Stylist: Irene Manicone, Makeup: Nichola Mai Images 6 - 9: Art Direction & Photographer: Benjamin Thapa Image 10 - 11: Photography: Anthony John Sayer Creative Director: Rob Phillips Beauty: Pace Chen Model: Rosemary Banks

Like a detective, I keep investigating different aspects of life and get inspired by them. For me it is all about pushing the boundaries of traditional menswear by experimenting with technique and texture to create an innovative outcome. My final collection Hyper-Natural is strongly influenced by a journey to California. It explores the contrasting aspects of reality and unreality. Silhouettes and textures in the collection are informed by the craftsmanship of Native American costume and weaving, incorporating innovative textiles ( using special machinery as Tanaka) and hyper-real colour palettes - inspired by Jeff Koons and Umberto Eco - in the form of feathers, metallic yarns and foil leather. A sense of irony plays into my thought process leading to kitsch elements in the collection. Overall, I want my outcome to be something ordinary presented in an unexpected way, not in an attempt to be eccentric but to be surprisingly relevant. PYTHON HARNESS

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Experimental textile creative embracing new technologies and merging them with old crafts; I create pieces fusing knit, embroidery, laser cutting and textile manipulation and have a strong understanding of proportion and the body with the ability to engineer and construct embellishment to enhance design on the body. All pieces designed and constructed are inspired by architecture and structure in nature. Exoskeletons and skeletons in particular have constantly been a point of fascination and through layering, contrasting and distorting my inspirations I push the development further via context, use of materials and scale. The focus is always on the textile first, the final design being a result of the 3D textile experimentation process. The 3D textiles are also developed digitally layering with illustration creating another unique way of interpreting and merging developments. MA Fashion Design Technology (Menswear)

Designer Hera Wan completed her BA in Fashion Design and Technology Menswear at London College of Fashion in 2012 and is pursuing her MA in menswear degree in London. During her BA study, she worked at the Amsterdam based fashion house of 'Viktor & Rolf' as a menswear design assistant for three months. With a curiosity driven mind and a lifelong passion for fashion, she decided to explore the realms of aesthetics through fashion design. Hera believes that ongoing dedication and inquisitive imagination are the fundamentals of design. Eruption of colours, noise, emotions and when cultures of different kinds clash and connect is what inspires Hera to create and design. Specialized in menswear gives Hera a great opportunity to test the boundary between traditional masculinity and her eccentric perception and aesthetics of masculinity. Capturing the harmony of colour, prints, and fine details, HERA\WAN showcases the elements of distinction and unexpected blitheness throughout its designs. HERA\WAN 2012 Autumn Winter menswear collection 'Muted Adolescence' is inspired by the innocence and subtle suppression of childhood in the early 1900s. The collection featured attentively screen printed spots, muted colour digital printed argyle pattern and unconventional application of straps and ribbons. The collection is tied together and elevated by the colour combinations and childlike proportion. Black Enigma

Graduate Diploma Fashion Media Styling

Styling and art direction took part of my life in the last years ,background in fashion design just helped for the best. What I like of this profession is that your eyes never stop "working". Every project is a storytelling that has the goal to make the audience get into the idea and look at the products showed in a different way. My inspiration comes from my own experience, cultures , music and people I met.
