MA Fashion Artefact

Annelie Gross D E F E C T S Growing up in a family of orthopedic technicians and prostheses constructors, Annelie was raised in a spirit to assist human bodies, that were not blessed by nature with a perfectly functioning body. This background left an essential impact on her and fostered her knowledge and interest in unusual (body) shapes, special materials and in my method of operation. '' The Artefacts distort and restrict the body and by that cause the very opposite of what is meant to be healthy. A phenomena, which is often seen in fashion. 'We Raphaelites' SS14 Edward Curtis’s Spring Summer 2014 Collection is about the collision of simplicity and maximalism. Comparing today’s modern mood with historical painters of the pre-Raphaelite brotherhood was a key dialogue for this collection. The state of wonder and tranquillity in pre-Raphaelite paintings of everyday people in seen in ‘The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Enigmatic Meaning of their Dreams’ by Allessandra Sanguinetti were compared, contrasted and collaged with the art works of Bruce Ingram. Via a process of haphazard experiments, using illustration, manufacture, finish, drape work and fittings as creative catalysts, Edward refined his unusual finds into a contemporary summer collection of 12 intense looks. Using a free hand expressive illustration style, Edward closely studied his random, varying sized drawing lines forms, textures and finishes to explore and use as design tools. The juxtaposition of clean graphic paints with rough mark making and powdery organic chalk smudges, guided Edwards pattern cutting, choices of colours, fabrics and prints. Unsatisfied with the regularity of most manufacturing details, Edward incorporated different techniques such as faggoting for seams, rolls of fabric for exaggerated shapes and decoration, duel net sandwiched rouleau’s that become new fastenings at the neck and wrist either hanging like marshmallow meters or tied into chic, sculptured bows. The silhouettes are dedicated to a free, micro sexy hemline and mix between a softer, looser hourglass form and a wide, curved, neck to wrist silhouette. Short midi tops fall lower to the front and sensually, provocatively curve the contour lines revealing the lower back arch. Sashes and ties languidly grow from garments either draping to the floor or fetishticly and organically moulding the body. The illustration mark makings are turned into prints, that appear to be just strewn, arbitrary over garments and even panties. Panties under dresses that you are intentionally given glimpses of. This is a collection of personal passion and artistic freedom. Through the naivety of play and euphoria, the tranquillity of posture and grace of gesture and raw expressive lines comes a masterfully controlled, elegant and thoroughly modern collection. These are eye-catching fashion statements, bold, confident and sexy pieces to play in, designed to create striking silhouettes when posing! ‘VASANT UTSAV. Celebration of spring’ a/w 2013 "A celebration is a public performance that marks an important event in the life of a person or a group", (Smithsonian Institution, 1982:p.61). It is an event where something peculiar or particular can be remembered and practiced every year. According to Turner (1981), during celebrations people think and feel more deeply than in everyday life. They express the meanings and values of their societies in special, often vivid ways. Among these is the creation of beautiful or striking objects, which exist only because humankind celebrates its own existence. My collection is a representation of these rituals and habits, in particular the fashions and colours worn and how these affect the clothes and garments worn from day to day. I come from and Indian family where much importance was given to festivals and their celebrations. The one season as well as festival which fascinated me was spring with all textured and coloured outfits worn during the celebrations. To further comprehend the scope of the concept and to continue the visualization into textures, designs, silhouettes and shapes I took this fascination and decided that I would expand it to cover the celebration of spring and see what different outfits were worn by different countries during their spring festivals that included: Spring Break, Holi, Easter, Gangaur, Gangasar mela, Pongal, Pujillay, Nowruz and Pagan. ‘VASANT UTSAV- SPRING CELEBRATION’ WHIICH IS INSPIRED AND DEVELOPED THROUGH INTENSIVE RESEARCH OF STREET WEAR, FOLK WEAR AND PRODUCTS, CUSTOMS CARRIED ON DURING THIS CELEBRATION. IMPORTANCE IS PLACED ON HIGH QUALITY FABRICS. METHODS SUCH AS FELTING AND SPECIALISED MACHINE KNITTING, GLASS BEADING HAVE BEEN INCORPORATED IN GARMENT MAKING. 'ADITI GANESH SANE' IS A READY TO WEAR WOMENSWEAR CLOTHING BRAND,THE AESTHETIC AND FEEL OF THE BRAND HAS A BALANCE BETWEEN ORGANIC AND MODERN ELEMENTS, INFLUENCES FOR SIHOUTTES ARE DRAWN FROM JUXTAPOSING ETHNIC AND WESTERN CLOTHING. Oksana Anilionyte I would like to thank Saga Furs for a wonderful sponsorship. Collection is based on idea of a soft control. The collection is an investigation into inter-relation of minimalism and modern women. I found my inspiration in Michelangelo Antonioni films L’Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), Eclipse (1962) and Il deserto rosso (1964). His films concentrate on how the modern world influence people and their feelings. Personal feelings, doubts, moods are substance of the films. The works and processes of Robert Morris, Tony Cragg and Daniel Arsham sculptures and abstract painting of Dale Frank served as the initial inspiration for the silhouette, colour, texture and details of the collection. The aim was to mix different techniques and inspirations to reach new and unexpected levels. I embraced the complexities and simplicities by different techniques to reinvent a version of femininity. Robert Morris felt sculptures led to create new ways of using seams to express the fluidity of line. The collection is a lot about the lines that are so pure, so clear, that they convey simplicity in their perfection. The purity is combined with texture that comes from tufting embroidery and soft fur to create a new level of feelings that garments create when touched. A dialogue between time and timelessness runs through the progression of the minimalist aesthetic which is felt in fluidity of seam lines. The collection incorporates a range of luxury fabrics (cashmere, wool, silk, fur, leather) to examine the balance between textures, silhouette and a purity of line. Open for projects and collaborations specialising in leather handbags. My work is based on origami and the colours and textures seen in butterflies. The materials of the collection consists of leather and laser cut Perspex held in place by silver screws. Industrialism and nature is translated through the use of materials; two opposing ideas. The perspex represents fragility and the screws gives an industrious feel to it. The mood of the collection takes inspiration from minimalism seen in the clean lines and three dimensional forms. copyright © 2013 devika rattu ______________________________FLORAL DECAY Devika Rattu is a Surface Textiles Designer specialising in Print through traditional screen-printing and digital printed textiles. Her work explores printing and dyeing techniques with a modern twist by distorting and warping her artwork to create something distinctly unique. Her Spring/Summer 2014 collection Floral Decay is a high-end womenswear collection, which stemmed from the idea that man-made cites are created by destroying natural landscapes. Then when man no longer has use for the structures, the invasion of nature and the decaying process takes over and creates something delicately beautiful, fragile and unique. Looking at the visual record of physical decay shown in the work of Marchand and Meffre’s ‘Ruins of Detroit’ the photography explores abandonment by people, society and the presence of past lives within the derelict buildings. The collection draws on traditional print processes of Devore and dyeing used in a contemporary way with unconventional fabrics. The techniques have been extensively refined to showcase a highly creative development of textiles. Both techniques required long periods of time to explore, test and perfect, creating a distinctive collection. The dyeing and printing process has been a fundamental aspect to the collection. The importance of colour is paramount to Devika’s vision through her collection, especially the transformation of her artwork into printed textiles. An integral part to the development of Devika’s work is her floral illustrations. Specialising in organic watercolour paintings rich in colour, distorted and warped to form graphic structural shapes, which won her a prize for Chelsea Flower Show competition and an annual membership to the Royal Horticultural Society. Then developed for the illustration competition Nina De Yorke and used to create an instillation for the 2013 LCF Press Exhibition. ______________________________EDUCATION London College of Fashion Ba (Hons) Fashion Design Technology_Surface Textiles 2010-2013 London College of Fashion Foundation Diploma in Art and Design 2009-2010 ______________________________WORK EXPERIENCE Anna Sui -New York- Pattern Making Intern July-September 2012 Giles -London- Sample Room Intern January-May 2012 Freelance Print Designer_ Mirjam Roudén -London- Design Intern April-May 2011 ______________________________ ACHIEVEMENTS Runner up_Chelsea Flower show t-shirt competition Annual membership for The Royal Horticultural Society Collaborative photo shoot, producing 2 dresses and a headpiece for Fauna & Flora

Geo Deco Collection For the 'Geo Deco Collection' I was inspired by light. There's a great energy as the sun shines in the day and when lights glow in the dark. I'm fascinated by light, and as it moves how it changes shapes, reflects and refracts. As the sun shines through coloured glass, its a delight as the hues of colours flood in its moving path. The sun mixes with water and oils to create spectrums of colour and It makes us feel happy, alive and awake... I use layers of different coloured light conducting perspex, mixed with mirrors, brass and in some pieces, LEDs. As the Jewellery moves, light catches the layers of material absorbing the lights energy, enhancing the colours as they conduct and glow brightly catching the eye. I work hard with the materials to get a great finish, to give it a polished, shiny, glassy effect and top it with brass to enrich and make it shine golden. The jewellery collection are individual pieces of art... They are structured and made to capture and entertain its audience. I like the pieces to have extra dimensions. The Jewellery is new and innovative, yet people connect as they see and find familiarities and memories within. pikkalili@live.co.uk GALLERIES MOCO LOCO Galleries http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2012/10/15/gallery-beautiful-objects-exhibition-at-the-aram-gallery.php THE ARAM GALLERY http://www.thearamgallery.org/next/ XHIBIT 2011 http://www.boidus.co.uk/?p=2755 DESIGN CATWALK http://www.designcatwalk.com/lili-colley-enlighted-jewellery/ SEE/SAW/SEEN http://www.seesawseen.co.uk/ DeTnK http://www.detnk.com/node/12050 DESIGN WEEK http://www.designweek.co.uk/whats-on/demystifying-beautiful-objects/3035438.article http://mocoloco.com/galleries/gallery/beautiful-objects-exhibition-at-the-aram-gallery/ PRESS DRAPERSonline http://www.drapersonline.com/blogs/unzipped/lcfs-college-shop-not-a-pencil-sharpener-in-sight/5041799.article Londonist http://londonist.com/2012/10/today-london-college-of-fashion-shop-opens.php GLAMUK http://glam.co.uk/2012/09/its-back-to-college-time/ COMPANY Magazine http://www.company.co.uk/fashion/news/london-college-fashion-pop-up-shop LDN Fashion http://www.ldnfashion.com/london-fashion-news/london-college-of-fashions-pop-up-college-shop/ Timeout Magazine WGSN http://wgsn.tumblr.com/post/30987031794 Elle UK.com http://m.elleuk.com/fashion/shopping-blog/the-lcf-college-shop-returns Viora Magazine http://www.vioromagazine.it/photogallery/ Dew Magazine http://www.dewmagazine.com/issuu/06newworld.html http://elegiac-circus.tumblr.com/post/31019347447/lili-colley http://pinterest.com/thedefiant/magazine-volume-1-5-future-bioculture-aw12-ss13/ - Style Bubble http://www.stylebubble.co.uk/style_bubble/2012/07/shoes-n-things.html · Tatler.com Catwalk review with emphasis on VIP and Celebs http://www.tatler.com/bystander/events/2012/june/london-college-of-fashion-graduate-show#/7516/image/1 - Vogue.co.uk http://www.vogue.co.uk/news/2012/06/29/london-college-of-fashion-ba-show - Evening Standard http://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/fashion/all-the-trimmings-london-fashion-graduates-prove-they-have-a-bright-future-7898848.html?origin=internalSearch - Fashion156.com http://www.fashion156.com/collections/london-college-of-fashion-ba-graduate-show-2012/ · Style Bubble Susie Lau’s influential fashion blog– Catwalk highlights: http://www.stylebubble.co.uk/style_bubble/2012/07/hackney-house-antics.html · Catwalk Queen Catwalk show review: http://www.catwalkqueen.tv/2012/07/london_college_6.html · Dash Magazine online Catwalk show review http://www.fashiondash.net/?p=3226 · Adorn Girl Fashion Blog: http://adorngirl.com/london-college-of-fashion-ba-graduate-exhibition-2012/ Exhibition review http://adorngirl.com/robert-wun-fashion-designer/ spotlight on Robert Wun http://adorngirl.com/london-college-of-fashion-ba-graduate-catwalk-2012/ Catwalk show review http://adorngirl.com/london-college-of-fashion-ba-2012-catwalk-backstage/ Backstage images · Luxsure French luxury magazine: http://www.luxsure.fr/2012/07/01/london-college-of-fashion-graduate-show-2012/ · Fashion Bite (Fashion blog) Catwalk show review: http://fashionbite.co.uk/2012/07/04/london-college-of-fashion-runway-show-class-of-2012/#more-11721 · Better Never Than Late (blog) Image Gallery of Backstage at Catwalk Show: http://bntl.co.uk/2012/07/03/backstage-lcf-press-show/ · Fashion Insight (Trade publication) Catwalk review http://fashioninsightfeatures.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/london-college-of-fashion-ba-season.html · EStyler Magazine Image gallery of all designers: http://estylermagazine.com/interviews · The Upcoming (fashion and news blog) Catwalk show review: http://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2012/07/02/london-college-of-fashion-ba-and-fda-show/ · Now Fashion Catwalk show image gallery: http://nowfashion.com/28-06-2012-london-college-of-fashion-2012-part-1-live-event-event-2256.html

Holley Potts BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear http://showtime.arts.ac.uk/HolleyPotts WEBSITE: www.holleypotts.com holley.potts@hotmail.co.uk As a designer, I feel that most art forms should be integrated with practicality and this should also apply to fashion. SS/13 - Combining Fashion Illustration with Fashion Design. Looking at Marching Cubes (a computer generated algorithm) and contrasting this with nature and old cartoon sketches formed my illustrations. Designing a set of five tops; same cut, different fabric, I overlaid my illustrations on top to synchronise these together. ± SS/13 COLLECTION TOPS + ILLUSTRATION - Holley Potts PHOTOGRAPHY - Tamzin Haughton HAIR + MAKEUP - Scarlett Burton STORM MODEL - Annie Walker-Trafford STYLIST - Elle Baron VIDEOGRAPHER - Calvin Hayes ± AW/13 - Researching how chemical substances were originally used medicinally, but now widely taken for recreational use, I looked at today’s underground music scene. Taking inspiration ranging from the early Opium Dens. The vivid hues of the high and the dark greys of the lows gave me a colour distortion which is reflected in my silk digital prints. ± AW/13 COLLECTION LOOKBOOK PHOTOGRAPHY - Tamzin Haughton HAIR + MAKEUP - Marie Bruce MODEL - Rachel Christianos STYLIST - Rita Shi ± AW/13 COLLECTION LINE UP PHOTOGRAPHY - Hanna Hillier HAIR + MAKEUP - Amber Pitkin MODEL - Amber Pitkin ± INTERNING Richard Nicoll May 2012 - July 2012 Giles Deacon November 2011 - March 2012 Selfridges: Marketing Department July 2007 - August 2007 ± ACHIEVEMENTS The Shoreditch Fashion Show 2013 Photography by Vytautas Dranginis ± FEATURED Chasseur Magazine - http://chasseurmagazine.com/2013/10/23/chasseur-webditorial-misa-simon-by-matt-lain/# Bright Young Things 2013 - http://www.clothesshowlive.com/page.cfm/link=130 W Magazine - http://weareselecters.com/2013/04/holley-potts-aw13-collection/ Kaltblut Magazine - http://www.kaltblut-magazine.com/april-illyj-and-pipa/ Coco Magazine - http://issuu.com/cocomagazine/docs/sept1coco Nou Magazine - http://www.noumagazine.com/you-say-ball-i-say-lets/ The Mark Magazine - http://www.themarkmag.com/marktorial/no-67-modernised-mod/ The Savy Dresser - http://thesavvydresser.wordpress.com/interview/
