Silhouettes are inspired by traditional womenswear in Burma and traditional clothing worn by women in many different tribes from different states of Burma. Detailed research was also carried out into the current political issues of the country and has been carried through into some of the textiles ideas, other textiles are inspired by jewellery which is worn to represent wealth within tribes. This has also been used to create new, contemporary embellishments in this collection.

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

>>OLIVIA HOWICK Olivia Howick is a Surface Textiles for Fashion graduate specializing in embroidery and embellishment, with a passion for transforming unexpected materials into luxurious fashion embellishment. Her graduate collection: ‘Medicate Me’ is a high-end ready to wear womenswear collection, that demonstrates the collision of contemporary and traditional approaches to medicine, through the exploration of Native American culture and advances in scientific medicine. The collection draws upon a textile tradition, and transforms it to demonstrate a clinical aesthetic which will appeal to the contemporary consumer. Exploration of new materials, in particular the use of PVC, has allowed for highly creative and innovative textile development through embroidery processes, that reflect on traditional craftsmanship, whilst evoking a clinical and medicinal aesthetic. Transforming materials is becoming an increasingly important aspect of Olivia’s work. This collection saw PVC hose pipes cut, dyed and stitched to become PVC beadwork. Combining this with satin stitch work and screen printed fabric, Olivia likes to work with both traditional aspects to textile design as well more unconventional material. Integral to Olivia’s practice is her illustration and drawing. Specializing in highly detailed hand rendered work, her illustration style is graphic, yet rich in textile inspired texture and detail. Olivia was selected as a finalist for the Nina de Yorke fashion illustration prize, and has also been shortlisted to compete to illustrate for the Maria Luisa website. Olivia was selected for the LCF Press Exhibition 2013 and exhibited a sculptural textile piece which demonstrated the concepts surrounding her Final Collection, as well as showcasing new textile development. I love the nostaglic, personal quality that various films bring to my portraits and the clean aesthetic that digital formats give my fashion work. I regularly shoot with a Bronica, Canon and I experiment with vintage camera's that I collect. I am currently studying at London College of Fashion.

Copyright © 2014 Sarah Mazza http://www.notjustalabel.com/sarah_mazza https://www.facebook.com/SarahMazzaKnitwear ___Summary___ A Spring/Summer collection for 2014 for high end womens wear market, exploring the idea of body tattoos being an object of art and its importance relative to different religious beliefs, tribal ceremonies and how this has a strong relation to modern society and its subcultures. ___More information on the concept___ The tattoo world is vast with much information about its culture and this has influenced many artists of our present days. As a way of inspiring this collection, various tattoo design ideas have been explored while looking at the different cultures. Philippine Island tattoos seem to be part of the biggest focuses relating to knit design itself. Some of the trading products originated from this country were fine fabrics made by women with a variety of materials. Interestingly the same patterns were also found on the Philippine women’s tattooed hands. These tattoos as the fine fabrics details must have been rather delicate and this has been reflected into the collection. The overall idea of this project is to bring to light and to show the tattoo like pattern by transposing the concept into knitted fabric. To create this concept into the shape and silhouette of the garments it is was crucial to keep it fairly simple as the texture will bring most of the slick and elegant look . Tight fitting clothing is to resemble the way the tattoo is being worn on the body (almost like a second skin effect). Looking at some of the Philippine people we can identify a recurring theme of curved lines near the shoulders where it creates a unique effect of clothing seams However taking into account the body tattoo placements there was a lot of playing round with arm holes in the collection garments which relates to tattoo sleeve placements. Among the designs, the knit is see-through to show the skin beneath, ____About Sarah____ Sarah Mazza is a French designer based in Luton. From a young Sarah always wanted to do something creative. Having studied Textiles at A-Level, her passion for the fashion industry and knitwear in particular was born. Noticing a talent in her, her tutor taught her to knit outside of class and from then on she was hooked, taking every possible chance to practice and improve in her spare time. After gaining a place on the prestigious course at LCF, where she explored multiple textile techniques including embroidery and print, she decided to focus purely on her first passion. She love the way in which she can create her own fabric, shape and make it as individual as it can be. She has always liked using unusual materials and prefer to challenge herself by staying away from conventional wool. Sarah’s knit includes feminine and elegant hand crafted knit that is hand dyed and hand stitched together. Sarah was awarded the Knitwear Award on Fashion156.com in Graduate Showcase Week for BA13 Press Show. ___________________Languages________________ Fluent in French and English _______________PRESS_______________ Featured on Home Page of NOT JUST A LABEL , http://www.notjustalabel.com http://www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/spring-summer-2014/ready-to-wear/london-college-of-fashion-ba/full-length-photos/gallery/1004248 http://blogs.arts.ac.uk/fashion/2013/09/09/a-glittering-gala-for-the-future-of-fashion/ http://blogs.arts.ac.uk/fashion/2013/07/29/class-of-2013-sarah-mazza/ http://www.thestylelane.com/#/lcf13-runway-show/4577776766 http://www.mydaily.co.uk/2013/07/02/london-college-of-fashion-ba-show-2013_n_3532173.html http://www.fashion156.com/daily-blog/f156-graduate-showcase-week-sarah-mazza/ http://www.fashion156.com/daily-blog/f156-graduate-showcase-week-awards/ http://blogs.arts.ac.uk/fashion/2013/07/19/fashion156-com-report-on-graduate-season-2013/ http://www.logos.info/en/news/sarah-mazza/ http://www.ameliasmagazine.com/fashion/london-college-of-fashion-ba-hons-graduate-catwalk-show-2013-review/2013/07/22/ http://www.apimages.com/metadata/Index/Britain-London-College-of-Fashion-BA-Show/84cceb40738741349519182b8e7d0dcf/28/0 http://www.ohdearism.com/2013/04/13/style-sarah-mazza-lcf-ba-collection/ http://janemarlestylist.tumblr.com/post/51740727194/http-www-joomag-com-magazine-frow-magazine-issue http://www.joomag.com/magazine/frow-magazine-issue-1-2013/0389006001368895868 http://www.flickr.com/photos/eliz_pica/8754598523/in/photostream/ http://issuu.com/london_college_of_fashion/docs/sdt-annual-2013 http://ashleighbrowntextiledesign.tumblr.com/search/sarah+mazza http://www.fibre2fashion.com/news/fashion-educational-institute-news/newsdetails.aspx?news_id=148962 http://newfashions956.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/sarah-mazza-ba-hons-fashion-design.html http://laspola.com/news.asp?id_news=4393&lingua=ITA Featured on Home Page of NOT JUST A LABEL , http://www.notjustalabel.com _________________CREDIT___________________ ___BFC 2013 ___ Sarah Mazza, Photographer, James Rees www.jamesrees.co.uk Creative Direction, Rob Phillips Beauty, Pace Chen, Melissa Wong Nail Art, Lauren Michelle Pires Model, Sarah Dick at Models 1 http://www.models1.co.uk/ ___LOOK BOOK Shoot___ sarah mazza photographer, Josh Chow Hair and MakeUp, Naoko Mabuchi Model, Ayesha Tan-Jones. ___BEAUTY EDITORIAL___ Photography, Polin Kuprine Styling, Jane Marle Hair and Makeup, Louise Linder.

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology (Womenswear)

‘Work like a slave, command like a king, create like a God’. These words, which I heard during my very first fashion lecture, perfectly describe my attitude to the fashion world. Fashion design is my life passion, which I have always been committed to and prepared to work hard on developing. Already during my first degree at London College of Fashion, I tried to be a part of the fashion industry by undertaking a number of internships: at Richard Nicoll, James Long, Maciej Zien and Guess by Marciano. That work experience not only enriched me with practical skills of sawing, designing and pattern cutting, but also gave me an opportunity to understand the process of production. My true dream, that I am aiming to achieve, is to be noticeably unique and stand out from the crowd. Because I never give up and work hard, I think that it is possible to overcome any upcoming obstacles on a pathway of a young fashion designer such as myself. Moreover, I am additionally motivated to learn about the fashion, since this type of visual art inspires me in everyday life and can provide with a special emotional insight. As Levinson notes, “art gives viewers experiential knowledge [...] and it does this by broadening experience to encompass things they might never otherwise have undergone or felt.” WORK EXPERIENCE Present Fashion intern at Richard Nicoll Present Stylish at 69 Polish Tv (Poland) August – September Fashion intern at Maciej Zień atelier (Polish designer) August Fashion intern at James Long 03rd June 2012 VolunteerAsian Fashion Show (London) June – December 2011 Main designer for Bodu Bacio – fashion brand in Poland August 2011 Assistant to the Senior designer at Guess by Maricano websites: https://www.facebook.com/MaGdalenaDudarskArt

Wenmei Zhang isabella_320@hotmail.com 07403385125 With thanks to Saga furs Creative Director: Rob Phillips Photography: Hill & Aubrey (James Finnigan & Timothy Hill), Yinqiu Wang Beauty: Meena Bhella & Jennifer Nelson Models: Lauren Beckley, Yolanda Luo The inspiration of my collection came from the traditional Inner Mongolian women hair style and accessories. So traditional but modern, untrammelled but feminine and elegant, simple but luxurious are key elements of my design style. Through these elements to develop a creative idea, which uses some new material like marble and tortoise shell effect acrylic and some soft material like expensive animal fur. MA Final Project When jewellery became multi-functional and playful My MA project is mainly inspried from Chinese ancient furniture joint structure. Therefore, my designs showed how oriental designs have influenced contemporary jewellery designs. Meanwhile, it also reflects how my jewellery work will combine modern product design and elements of nature. As result, i ulitized the furniture hinges to connect every single part of my jewellery pieces. That joint structures made my jewellery pieces multi-fountinonal and playful. Because my concept of my master project concepts around the theme about multi-functional and playful, I gave up the traditional way to make wood joint and hinge. I selected tree branches from forest, and study the shape of them in order to explore which one is the best material to use for hinge structures. As far as I considered, the tree branches hinge could make my jewellery work more functional and more flexible on human body. Meanwhile, I will use some untraditional material like animal fur to make jewellery. I think my jewellery work can achieve surprising looking if I combine these unusual materials together.

MA Fashion Footwear

Sophia Susassi | Footwear Designer & Range Developer Email | sophiasusassi@gmail.com Linked In | Sophia Susassi Sophia became a unique designer due to a wide range of experiences and influences. She has been actively involved in multiple sides of the fashion industry. This includes working with tanneries, industrial manufacture, retail and in exhibition. Her research and development has taken her to Paris and various parts of Italy. She is bilingual, speaking English and Italian. Sophia had always envisaged fashion to be more of a craft than a form of art, and naturally leant more towards the practical side of fashion. Footwear seemed to best represent this area and Sophia decided to head to the footwear capital of the UK in Northampton. Here she would study her undergraduate degree in fashion footwear. At the University of Northampton she annually attended trade shows such as Linea Pelle, undertook internships with companies such as Jeffery West and upon specialising in men’s footwear for her Ba final collection, won full sponsorship to design and manufacture her collection with the Prada owned brand, Church’s. Whilst travelling in the US after graduating, Sophia was offered a scholarship, inviting her to join the prestigious Cordwainers Masters programme at the London College of Fashion. She is now coming to the completion of her Ma in Fashion Footwear, and after having worked on one project with the company Dr.Martens, she has now completed her final collection in Italy working on a forward thinking women’s range, combining her digital prints with rapid prototyping and Italian craftsmanship. As well as this she spent her final term of the project working with Joseph Cheaney & Son's on her mens line, creating a range of unique classic menswear with a futuristic twist. The Concept being based on biological transformation and focusing on the visually impaired and colour blindness, this project looks at how one might be able to see through the eyes of a colour blind individual using prints which appear to move and change underneath RGB colour lighting revealing different levels and layers to the pieces. A tragic romantic story representing a strong endearing woman. The collection supports sustainability and embraces innovation through the use of Salmon Leather; a bi product which is strong, soft to touch and has the element of surprise. This unique fabric is laser cut with an intricate wave detail. The untouched raw edges of the intricate laser cut details partnered alongside the delicate Chantilly laces allows a further intriguing dimension to the texture and together create striking, delicate pieces with a difference.
