Small Compact Globe

MA Fashion Artefact

My work looks to explore contemporary interpretations of traditional women's beauty items and vanity cases, playing on identifiable codes and exploring less conventional forms, to create a range of unique receptacles. A mix of traditional hand crafted skills and lustrous materials, create an opulent aesthetic for these conventional and functional artefacts. Highly engineered components were designed to be integral to the functionality of the products. The notion that individual components within each artefact's design can hold another use when deconstructed, counteracts the well-known phrase of beauty only being skin deep. The products that have been designed look to offer better engagement with the user and their experience with the artefacts, as well as offering a greater value and appreciation for the products.

BA (Hons) Cordwainers Fashion Bags and Accessories: Product Design and Innovation

www.lindseytaitdesign.com e: lindseytaitdesign@mail.com A curious and diligent designer who takes inspiration from many sources including life experiences, anatomy, the fantastical and the unknown. The aim of lindseytait design is to use fashion and its influence as a channel to raise awareness of social issues and to make a difference. The brand is dedicated to having a social responsibility as well as producing superior quality crafted pieces that are one of a kind and make a statement. Striving for perfection, attention to detail is key as well as finding new and exciting ways to create, while incorporating traditional artisan techniques to produce beautifully finished products. Looking to modern technology to influence design and to push the boundaries of ‘fashion’, lindseytait design hopes to bring accessory design to new levels of what can be achieved. The graduate collection ‘skin deep’ is influenced by the issue of self-harm: the stigma associated with it and the restriction of the body to prevent harming. It was key that the pieces should be beautiful as well as provocative in order to raise awareness, yet still be products that can be worn with attraction rather than the ‘ugliness’ of self-harm. Using an intricate cherry-blossom pattern laser etched into the lining (which sits close against the skin) is significant as the cherry-blossom flower represents feminine strength and sexuality. This soft and beautiful leather etched lining is juxtaposed against the strong VegTan exterior that provides a shield-like mould around various parts of the body. Each piece is fully functional, despite being conceptual rather than commercial. Born in a small town in Northern Ireland, Lindsey showed a strong passion for art and craft from a young age, which soon flourished into a love for fashion design. While completing her Foundation Diploma, Lindsey’s keen attention to detail and interest in accessories became apparent, leading to her relocation to London to attend London College of Fashion. Lindsey intends to remain in London to continue growing as a designer and to also expand her knowledge of fashion design and construction into apparel – although her main focus still remains on creating innovative and provocative fashion accessories. As a way of inspiring this collection, various tattoo design ideas have been explored while looking at the different cultures. Philippine Island tattoos seem to be part of the biggest focuses relating to knit design itself. Some of the trading products originated from this country were fine fabrics made by women with a variety of materials. Interestingly the same patterns were also found on the Philippine women’s tattooed hands. These tattoos as the fine fabrics details must have been rather delicate and this has been reflected into the collection. The overall idea of this project is to bring to light and to show the tattoo like pattern by transposing the concept into knitted fabric. To create this concept into the shape and silhouette of the garments it is was crucial to keep it fairly simple as the texture will bring most of the slick and elegant look . Tight fitting clothing is to resemble the way the tattoo is being worn on the body (almost like a second skin effect). Looking at some of the Philippine people we can identify a recurring theme of curved lines near the shoulders where it creates a unique effect of clothing seams However taking into account the body tattoo placements there was a lot of playing round with arm holes in the collection garments which relates to tattoo sleeve placements. Among the designs, the knit is see-through to show the skin beneath, ____About Sarah____ Sarah Mazza is a French designer based in Luton. From a young Sarah always wanted to do something creative. Having studied Textiles at A-Level, her passion for the fashion industry and knitwear in particular was born. Noticing a talent in her, her tutor taught her to knit outside of class and from then on she was hooked, taking every possible chance to practice and improve in her spare time. After gaining a place on the prestigious course at LCF, where she explored multiple textile techniques including embroidery and print, she decided to focus purely on her first passion. She love the way in which she can create her own fabric, shape and make it as individual as it can be. She has always liked using unusual materials and prefer to challenge herself by staying away from conventional wool. Sarah’s knit includes feminine and elegant hand crafted knit that is hand dyed and hand stitched together. Sarah was awarded the Knitwear Award on Fashion156.com in Graduate Showcase Week for BA13 Press Show. ___________________Languages________________ Fluent in French and English _______________PRESS_______________ Featured on Home Page of NOT JUST A LABEL , http://www.notjustalabel.com http://www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/spring-summer-2014/ready-to-wear/london-college-of-fashion-ba/full-length-photos/gallery/1004248 http://blogs.arts.ac.uk/fashion/2013/09/09/a-glittering-gala-for-the-future-of-fashion/ http://blogs.arts.ac.uk/fashion/2013/07/29/class-of-2013-sarah-mazza/ http://www.thestylelane.com/#/lcf13-runway-show/4577776766 http://www.mydaily.co.uk/2013/07/02/london-college-of-fashion-ba-show-2013_n_3532173.html http://www.fashion156.com/daily-blog/f156-graduate-showcase-week-sarah-mazza/ http://www.fashion156.com/daily-blog/f156-graduate-showcase-week-awards/ http://blogs.arts.ac.uk/fashion/2013/07/19/fashion156-com-report-on-graduate-season-2013/ http://www.logos.info/en/news/sarah-mazza/ http://www.ameliasmagazine.com/fashion/london-college-of-fashion-ba-hons-graduate-catwalk-show-2013-review/2013/07/22/ http://www.apimages.com/metadata/Index/Britain-London-College-of-Fashion-BA-Show/84cceb40738741349519182b8e7d0dcf/28/0 http://www.ohdearism.com/2013/04/13/style-sarah-mazza-lcf-ba-collection/ http://janemarlestylist.tumblr.com/post/51740727194/http-www-joomag-com-magazine-frow-magazine-issue http://www.joomag.com/magazine/frow-magazine-issue-1-2013/0389006001368895868 http://www.flickr.com/photos/eliz_pica/8754598523/in/photostream/ http://issuu.com/london_college_of_fashion/docs/sdt-annual-2013 http://ashleighbrowntextiledesign.tumblr.com/search/sarah+mazza http://www.fibre2fashion.com/news/fashion-educational-institute-news/newsdetails.aspx?news_id=148962 http://newfashions956.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/sarah-mazza-ba-hons-fashion-design.html http://laspola.com/news.asp?id_news=4393&lingua=ITA Featured on Home Page of NOT JUST A LABEL , http://www.notjustalabel.com http://www.maglifico.com/sarah_mazza _________________CREDIT___________________ ___BFC 2013 ___ Sarah Mazza, Photographer, James Rees www.jamesrees.co.uk Creative Direction, Rob Phillips Beauty, Pace Chen, Melissa Wong Nail Art, Lauren Michelle Pires Model, Sarah Dick at Models 1 http://www.models1.co.uk/ ___LOOK BOOK Shoot___ sarah mazza photographer, Josh Chow Hair and MakeUp, Naoko Mabuchi Model, Ayesha Tan-Jones ___BEAUTY EDITORIAL___ Photography, Polin Kuprine Styling, Jane Marle Hair and Makeup, Louise Linder

ISSUU - Outsider Magazine issue 1 by Saskia Barlow

MA Fashion Journalism

For my final MA project I wrote and illustrated a coffee table book on fashion collectors. It featured a range of different fashion collectors, including vintage Haute Couture, vintage Moschino prints and rare historical boyswear. I also put together a thorough market report to prove it has a niche and would be viable if it was to be published independently, (although a major publishing house is interested at this current time.)

Objects of enduring value

MA Fashion Artefact

Objects of enduring value Investigating the principles of emotionally durable design, I developed a personal design approach aiming to extend the lifespan of products. Using a combination of traditional and industrial manufacturing I created artefacts that aim to encourage emotional value of things. Placed between the field of rapidly changing fashion and technologically driven and mass-producing industrial design, my work is challenging both of these industries by emphasising the emotional value of products. www.mirjapitkaart.com photography by Agnes Lloyd-Platt model: Greiss Taul
