Jumper detail: textile collaboration with Brogan Toyn, for

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Zoe is a London based textile designer, specialising in embroidered textiles for both Menswear and Womenswear. She flourishes in a creative environment and is constantly engaging in opportunities to expand and enhance an innate artistic flair. A strong attraction to decoration and an acute awareness of colour and aesthetics, stem from Zoe's intrinsic desire to enhance and develop a fun, uplifting and energetic embroidery style, drawing on aspects of global cultures both old and new. In particular, Zoe is extremely passionate about colour, constantly seeking inspiration to manipulate and embellish a wide range of vibrant and exuberant textile materials. Zoe's FMP collection, is inspired by 60s nostalgia and children's artwork, targeting the older customer. It aims to regenerate fabric surfaces that are beautiful and alluring, through her love of colour and abstract illustration style. As an individual, Zoe loves working with other designers, in order that her textiles can meet a wider audience: womenswear student Man Yim and Zoe, have recently collaborated for their FMP photoshoot. In addition, within her graduate collection Zoe has collaborated with Menswear student Brogan Toyn for ‘Jamaican me Crazy’. The collection, an eccentric yet sensational , SS2013 sportswear range, has been selected for the LCF Press Show. The textiles for ‘Jamaican me Crazy’ further reflect Zoe’s ability to cater for a wide customer base and showcase her unconventional style towards textile design. Reversing the constraints on gender, ‘Jamaican me Crazy’ is a rebellion against frequently used homophobic dancehall lyrics, inspired by the controversial musical style and promiscuity of Jamaica's Dancehall Queens. The textiles are tactile and enticing, with soft rainbow furs creeping along the edges of garments. In turn, tight crotches are emphasized by brilliantly printed and metallic lurex fabrics, with surges of complex mark making forming these prints. Bedazzling, sequined crop tops emphasize an outlandish street style, contradicting urban aesthetics. In addition, references to dancehall contemporaries in the hip hop genre, are portrayed through basketball shorts engulfed in colour and the sparkle of iridescent fabrics. Zoe’s sensitivity towards colour is portrayed here, through applying heat pressed patterns and disperse dyes to fabrics. This enables the juxtapositions of colour to be an important focus within the collection. Red or black are often familiarised with promiscuity, however, avoiding seedy connotations ‘Jamaican me Crazy’ adopts modest, pastel hues. These effectively distract from potentially erotic undertones, and encourage the energy of the dancehall for both onlooker and wearer. BA (Hons) Fashion Textiles

My work is often an eccentric eclectic mix of oddities sewn together hopefully in an appeasing aesthetic. I really admire jewellery design and the work of Parisian ateliers and try to mix these ideas when working to create pieces that become more than textiles I am a passionate hand embroiderer and stay away from machines if at all possible. I believe very strongly in the preservation of hand craft and it is always a priority when starting a embroidery piece.

MA Fashion Artefact

PLEASE CONTACT HERE chiara.pav@icloud.com +44 7449 136 195 PROJECT & METHODOLOGIES: I create a collection of artefacts that arise from the study of the distortion of the senses, that comes from a self-deception, manifested in human life with the most unusual landscapes. The project is a study of the objects involved in the ritual of cure, starting from the observation of electrocution in medical field, touching the aesthetic of the tools used to cure mental conditions. The Artefact pieces are entirely made by hand, the Wood became a material used as decorative function, underlining its beauty, grain and essence, I mainly used Pear Wood and Ebony Wood. The structural and mechanical parts are made in metal, to be specific: brass, that has been silverplated. Leather is the main material in my collection, enriched by the technique of the Sadlle stitch. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

Oksana Anilionyte I would like to thank Saga Furs for a wonderful sponsorship. Collection is based on idea of a soft control. The collection is an investigation into inter-relation of minimalism and modern women. I found my inspiration in Michelangelo Antonioni films L’Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), Eclipse (1962) and Il deserto rosso (1964). His films concentrate on how the modern world influence people and their feelings. Personal feelings, doubts, moods are substance of the films. The works and processes of Robert Morris, Tony Cragg and Daniel Arsham sculptures and abstract painting of Dale Frank served as the initial inspiration for the silhouette, colour, texture and details of the collection. The aim was to mix different techniques and inspirations to reach new and unexpected levels. I embraced the complexities and simplicities by different techniques to reinvent a version of femininity. Robert Morris felt sculptures led to create new ways of using seams to express the fluidity of line. The collection is a lot about the lines that are so pure, so clear, that they convey simplicity in their perfection. The purity is combined with texture that comes from tufting embroidery and soft fur to create a new level of feelings that garments create when touched. A dialogue between time and timelessness runs through the progression of the minimalist aesthetic which is felt in fluidity of seam lines. The collection incorporates a range of luxury fabrics (cashmere, wool, silk, fur, leather) to examine the balance between textures, silhouette and a purity of line. The Cruelty of Perfection

MA Costume Design For Performance

I began my career in fashion, passionate by the way clothing is a cultural reflection, and a key tool for communication. This MA aloud me to go deeper into the sociological/psychological side of color and garments, and how to use them properly to develop characters and storylines visually. As my Final Major Project I worked on the opera "Madama Butterfly" by Giacomo Puccini, as a contemporary dance piece. I created a costume able to operate as "set", so it will be the only thing needed for the performance (apart from the performer); this mixture represents how the character is born and raised into a moral system that puts her down, and how that fact influences her identity and sense of freedom. For my film project, based on "The Cherry Orchard" by Anton Chekhov, I chose Magic Realism as my context, particularly Jan Saudek's visual language, which I found a perfect match for the decadent, familiar story with reminiscences of ingenuity and hope. My character, Gayev, was a grown Peter Pan, led to Neverwhere by his fruit drops and billiard games; so I created a heavy decadent texture for the outside which contains the delicate colorful laser cut fantasy of his playfull childhood. For my on-stage performance project, based on the opera "The Cunning Little Vixen" by Leos Janacek, I researched on the Steampunk movement and aesthetics, to represent the duality of the humanized animals, the brownish colors of the farm, and the fact that the hens are a flesh machine to be used until it breaks. SNOW WHITE, is an editorial/story telling/performative personal project. WONDERLAB, is a visual experiment with mixed media (photography - projection - photography) for PILAR DALBAT Spring/Summer 2013 collection.

CAPITOLISM. Defining the "Beautifully Vulgar" a voyage into fashion and the human condition, and the relationships between the two. Clothing should be more than a means to an end, the ethos here is that whilst garments should always be wearable, practical, and invoke a sense of security, they must also invoke a sense of fashionable confidence in the wearer. This body of work, was created to appropriately explain the links between this sense of security in uncertain times, and peoples fashion requirements.
