MA Fashion Design Technology Womenswear

Designer Eva Cheng is currently in Hong Kong with the collection. Please feel free to contact her if you have any project work in Hong Kong. Eva Cheng graduated from School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2005. She has won 2011 Hong Kong Young Designers’ Contest Overall Winner Prize. Her collection, themed ‘Fragments of the Sky’ is inspired from cityscape and its shadow in Hong Kong. Moreover, she was among 2011 ’40 under 40’ creative talent recognition programme organized by Hong Kong design magazine ‘Prespectives’. Her MA Fashion design and technology graduation collection entitled ‘Open Wardrobe’. ‘Open wardrobe’ Concept The collection “Open Wardrobe” aims to encourage people to reveal their wardrobes and to treasure their existing clothes. In the twenty-first century, consumers can shop anytime online. Influenced by the overloading information of consuming goods throughout different media, fashion trends are sadly ephemeral. The twice a year seasons catwalk has become fourth a year by adding twice ‘resort‘ transition seasons in between. In which means, consumers reach fashion brands advertisements nearly everyday such as Facebook and Twitter or other social networking devices. They might easily become compulsive shoppers under the power of advertising. Consequently, it turns to be overconsumption of clothes. In the research study, some consumers might have already forgotten some of their clothings left in the wardrobe. The question of ‘the most memorial clothes’ was to investigate how the clothes evoke their memories. ‘The secret world of haute couture’ is a documentary programme in the UK in 2007, Betsy Bloomingdale intended to develop a way of memorable clothes. ‘Memory is the treasure house of the mind wherein the monuments thereof are kept and preserved’ (Fuller n.d.). Eva believes the linkage between memory and fashion in a way of expressing the importance of sustainability become essential in this research study. Therefore, this collection examines ways of extending the life cycle of clothes though attaching emotional values and how the colours and shinny fabrics work with storage system that could arouse people awareness of the neglected clothings/desire. As a designer, it is desirable to propose an attitude of appreciation to our consuming goods and in a sense of making customers understanding their participation in the consuming cycle with the natural resources, which might otherwise go unnoticed. I wish to show my gratitude as below: Credits: Photographer: Kevin Wong Shoes: Something thine wedding shoes Blog: http://aevacheng.blogspot.co.uk/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/musicalair?ref=hl

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

Daniel Pascal Tanner's collection "De-gendering the Fairytale Princess" reflects the current transgender debate. This womenswear collection explores the boundaries of women’s and men’s fashion and projects the ideal of equality and acceptance of all genders, including transgender. The collection breaks down the social construction of gender role identities, by considering what happens when a boy puts on the fairytale princess dress. It is a comment on the social construction of gender roles which are implemented and imposed through clothing. My objective is to create a collection that encapsulates a symbiotic relationship between elements of the masculine and feminine gender identity which is liberated from the social norm where clothing is used to subordinate and limit the agency, rights and equality of women. The collection speaks to future generations about equality and the transgender debate, using fashion as a platform to promote these issues in a positive light.

JEEGUI"FRAGMENT" A 14/15 autumn/winter season collection: investigating the concept that is ‘FRAGMENT’, representing an incomplete human development and fragmented memories of human history, through different texture, fabric and diagonal pattern cutting. ‘FRAGMENT’ in futuristic modern society is a representation of seeking traditional and primitive authenticity within humanity that we lost, against the lifestyles of modern society, which is lacking freedom, sameness or uniformity by large-scale manufacturing. In this collection, key fabrics are fur against showing with metallic silver leather and high tech bonded fabric. Basically, fur symbolizes the human authenticity from primitive and folk imagery, so that the fur in the collection is combined and crafted with futuristic fabric. It is a strong hybrid type of collection. Guyhyun is a menswear designer, who studied at London College of Fashion BA Menswear. Nikita Karizma

BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development

Young london designer spreading positive social statements through her creative body of work. Her graduate range is called 'Fashion Vs Abuse'& has been inspired by the alarming rates of abuse within society today. The clothing has been designed with protective elements including buckles, animalistic feathers, custom crystallised rebellious spikes and the colour palette stripped down to a tonal nude spectrum. The headgear implies that women have no say when being abused & the harness restricts your body movement. The 'armoured crab' jacket is designed to enhance your confidence & the 'fleshed body' plays on female vulnerability. Alongside the clothing she developed a fashion technology product which is a combined rape/SOS alarm fashion accessory that works by sending a Bluetooth signal to your smartphone to send out a danger alert to a family member using its GPS technology to locate you. It also gives abuse victims confidence to walk the streets again as well as women walking home at night.
