MA Fashion Design Technology (Menswear)

Designer Hera Wan completed her BA in Fashion Design and Technology Menswear at London College of Fashion in 2012 and is pursuing her MA in menswear degree in London. During her BA study, she worked at the Amsterdam based fashion house of 'Viktor & Rolf' as a menswear design assistant for three months. With a curiosity driven mind and a lifelong passion for fashion, she decided to explore the realms of aesthetics through fashion design. Hera believes that ongoing dedication and inquisitive imagination are the fundamentals of design. Eruption of colours, noise, emotions and when cultures of different kinds clash and connect is what inspires Hera to create and design. Specialized in menswear gives Hera a great opportunity to test the boundary between traditional masculinity and her eccentric perception and aesthetics of masculinity. Capturing the harmony of colour, prints, and fine details, HERA\WAN showcases the elements of distinction and unexpected blitheness throughout its designs. HERA\WAN 2012 Autumn Winter menswear collection 'Muted Adolescence' is inspired by the innocence and subtle suppression of childhood in the early 1900s. The collection featured attentively screen printed spots, muted colour digital printed argyle pattern and unconventional application of straps and ribbons. The collection is tied together and elevated by the colour combinations and childlike proportion. Memory of Cloth

MA Fashion Design Technology, Womenswear

“Just as man lives and grows old, so too does fabric live and age. When fabric is left to age for a year or two, it naturally contracts, and at this point it reveals its charm. The threads have a life of their own, they pass through the seasons and mature. It is only through this process that the true appeal of the fabric is revealed.” (Yamamoto 2010) Through the research of historical workwear, the collection is inspired by the concept of decay, deterioration, and the ‘memory’ which cloth holds. When cloth or clothing is left behind by its owners, it is these details which leave clues as to the purpose and importance they had in an unknown someone’s life - the faded memory of the cloth, who wore it, and their history. This memory is translated through the highly textural fabrics and textile manipulation. Hi-tech glass fibre fabric and silicone coatings contrast the natural linens and cottons within the collection. Drape is informed by the oversized nature of the cloth; square cutting and cocoon silhouettes mirror that of the smock, where volume is controlled by pleating. areynolds29@gmail.com

Sliver twisted dress

MA Fashion Design Technology, Womenswear

Designer Eva Cheng graduated from School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2005. She has won 2011 Hong Kong Young Designers’ Contest Overall Winner Prize. Her collection, themed ‘Fragments of the Sky’ is inspired from cityscape and its shadow in Hong Kong. She applied Chinese traditional paper-cut techniques and presented in a 3-dimensional bloom with laser cut technology. Moreover, she was among 2011 ’40 under 40’ creative talent recognition programme organized by Hong Kong design magazine ‘Prespectives’. Her MA Fashion design and technology graduation collection entitled ‘Open Wardrobe’. ‘Open wardrobe’ Concept The collection “Open Wardrobe” aims to encourage people to reveal their wardrobes and to treasure their existing clothes. This collection examines ways of extending the life cycle of clothes though attaching emotional values and how the colours and shinny fabrics work with storage system that could arouse people awareness of the neglected clothings/desire. MA Fashion Photography

D i s c o n t i n u u m I always try to show the world differently, to allow you to interpret things in a new way. Our existence is rarely defined as an instant, but rather as a transition from Past to Future. Do Past and Future even exist, or is Time just a mental construct? My final project explores the relationship between space and time, with the aim to understand the space and time-bound nature of our human form. The project was shot with a self-built camera based on a scanner. This device sees the world very differently to how you or a traditional camera would see it: only movement is recorded, while static objects blur into streaks. The camera therefore truly captures movement and nothing else, allowing you to see the world through time instead of space. Each row of pixels is a photograph of the same slit of space, but captured at a different time. As the model moves across that slit, an image is revealed, recording the changes of that space over the course of time. There is no image manipulation involved, these pictures are records of reality, albeit one that we cannot normally perceive. www.matedobray.com

Love Punch

MA Digital Fashion

I am an artefact designer based in East London. I completed my BA at the London College of Fashion with First Class honours and perused a successful career designing and creating fashion and accessories for two years. Last year I was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Head of the British Fashion Council, Harold Tilman to study an MA in Digital Fashion at the London College of Fashion. During my time studying my MA I started to explore using 3D printing in jewellery design . I am now passionate about using 3D printing techniques mixed with my traditional background in fashion, thus creating complex and beautiful wearable art that would be impossible to create without 3d printing or without an indepth knowledge of classic design techniques.

KYPHOSIS

MA Fashion Artefact

DEFECTS Growing up in a family of orthopedic technicians and prostheses constructors, I was raised in a spirit to assist human bodies that were not blessed by nature with a perfectly functioning body. This background left an essential impact on me and fostered my knowledge and interest in unusual (body) shapes, special materials and also in my method of operation. This collection of 8 artefacts might still have an orthopedic background, but it explores further freedoms beyond the pieces functionality. contact and more information: annelie.gross@yahoo.com http://www.behance.net/anneliegross

bilateral symmetry

MA Fashion Artefact

Beauty, grandeur, mystery and danger are nature’s messages; thus, the study of the form and functional characteristics of a natural structure is what provides inspiration for my work. Examining organic forms, deriving from a vast research on microbiology, my challenge was to base my research mainly on diseased cells: bacteria, fungi or cancer cells. These cells try to take over the organism by altering cellular genetic constitution, which results in continuing to divide when they should not and so becoming rogue cells. The idea is to step out of the conventional jewellery/accessories context in order to develop a unique series of precious objects. Aim of it was to see what can be achieved with the combination of new technologies (CAD, CNC machining) and traditional mold making and casting techniques. For this collection I focus on the bilateral symmetry because the human body is considered to be part of this category."Bi-" is a prefix meaning "two," so a bilaterally symmetrical being is one whose body is capable of being split in two identical halves. But the symmetry applies only to the basic framing structure of the body and not necessarily the insides. Symmetry is a chosen subject because it stands out; it demands attention, which is what I try to incorporate into my pieces. It plays such an important role in a wide range of human activity. It has enjoyed a special place in both philosophy and theology. In this context, symmetry can be referred to as a great harmonizer and unifier. Mala Siamptani

Sartorial Collective - Home Page. A digital framework for representing privately owned collections and artefacts

MA Fashion Curation

My final MA project demonstrates a convergence of my interests in fashion artefacts, personal histories and digital technology together with my background in art history, fashion and architecture. The project is concerned with the meaning and value of digitally representing collections online for the contemporary private collector of fashion artefacts and how this can be accomplished through user-generated Web 2.0 means; in turn viewing the online platforms as the modern Wunderkammer. In collaboration with fellow graduates Daniel Caulfield-Sriklad and Xenia Capacete, my work has been selected for representation at the London College of Fashion MA ’13 Show at Victoria House, London, in February 2013, for which a multi-media installation, including film, 3D scanning and an online component, is being created around the archive of collector, Fraser Laing of General Eyewear (formerly Archiv). Most recently, I co-curated a display and online exhibition focussing on The Footprints Studio textiles and garments of the 1920s and 30s at Central Saint Martins, with CSM collection curator and Liberty of London archivist, Anna Buruma. I am currently involved in several curatorial projects, which include: - British Council and British Fashion Council International Fashion Showcase for the Portuguese Embassy - National Gallery and London College of Fashion Collaboration - Flight: Drawing Interpretations - M&S Shwop Shop Installation at the Marble Arch Flagship Store. Carpenter's Planer 3.1

MA Fashion Artefact

About - Traces of Profession: TRACES OF PROFESSION evolves the idea of past craftsmen, their tools and HANDS. The conceptual idea for this project comes from August Sander's photography of post-industrial craftsmen. A journey into almost past professions in today's time of mechanization, this collection takes an abstract view on craftsman's tools and how they were used by skilled hands. Tool and man formed a unit in order to create a product. TRACES OF PROFESSION picks up this bond and evolves it into modern accessory design. This collection is about the interaction with an accessory - a subconscious desire of touch. Exploring new ways of haptic interaction within the accessory context eight bespoke hand pieces have been created for this collection. They are an abstract interpretation of carefully selected craftsman tools such as the carpenter's wood planer or the iron smith's pliers. About MON: MON is a creative concept by Monika Lesniewska. Intrigued by craftsmanship and individualisation of accessories within today's fashion context Monika's work imbues those aspects into modern accessory design. Distant from fast-fashion the design ethos of MON focuses on individuality, quality and attention to detail.
