MA Fashion Footwear
Woven high heels
a gaze at traditions to resignify the ritual and beauty of craftsmanship.
Craftsmanship embodies the hand and mind of the people who create it. It is a testimony to the beauty and inheritance of the traditions, being one of the duties that still remain with its distinguishing trait of being passed down through familial generations.
Nowadays, the caliber of quality and details in traditional handcrafting is rarely seen. Within industrialization and mass production, craftsmanship has been less appreciated and its quality and details have deteriorated. This approach rejects the uniformity and repetitivness of mass production, where the imperfection of the craft process is usually thought of as a failure.
Accordingly, weaving is the main theme of this collection, where craftsmanship has been rethought. Creating a contemporary image that invites us to visit the past in order to glimpse the future has been achieved by modernizing traditional techniques and accessing the latest technologies.
The design process started by developing experimental pieces, conniving traditional footwear, weaved patterns and 3d printing.
The aesthetic enhances the weightlessness of female body, creating the illusion of hanging from a net, tying the feet down and bearing the netting into a three dimensionality. It pursues long and thin shapes while the bodyâs expression plays to be restricted, appearing fragile and instable from a podium that empowers it.
Since the costs are extremely high, the collection could not be completely made. I have decided to conclude my masterâs project with a digital representation and keep working on them as a personal process with the collaboration of Eichenberger.

Fashion and the creative process is achieved by; striving to push the boundaries of work through developing new skills, whilst analysing elements of life today through evaluating social, cultural, political and historical factors. This is achieved by a visionary approach to the synergy between a comprehensive business awareness gained through relevant industry experience and an innate creative skill set to produce innovative textile solutions for fashion.

Stains&Scars
The collection started from a kind of feeling that âstainsâ can never be removed but stay as a part of you âthis included two aspects: Stains and scars - to be tangible scars they are bloodstains, bruises, burns and surgery scars and also memories as scars â pain coming from indelible memories and how these shape our experiences and contribute to who we are as individuals.
The project is focus on stains as a form of memories and personal identity to give stains meaningful metaphor and transferring them into illusions on garments. It also aimed to extend researches on various stains to find ugly beauty and using hand sculpture latex textiles to imitate scars.
The collection intended to be made of natural fabric with print and plain textile together, such as wool, cotton and silk. About 60 percents of garments in the collection were planed to be digital printed. These include stains and scars images in meaningful illusions. Except digital printing and laser cutting which had been used in previous designs, Meanwhile, one piece of leather jacket with engraved roses was also in the collection. And the final collection has another new textile to display scars, which is a kinds of latex sheet with roses embossments.

Designer
Eva Cheng graduated from School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2005. She has won 2011 Hong Kong Young Designersâ Contest Overall Winner Prize. Her collection, themed âFragments of the Skyâ is inspired from cityscape and its shadow in Hong Kong. Moreover, she was among 2011 â40 under 40â creative talent recognition programme organized by Hong Kong design magazine âPrespectivesâ. Her MA Fashion design and technology graduation collection entitled âOpen Wardrobeâ.
âOpen wardrobeâ Concept
The collection âOpen Wardrobeâ aims to encourage people to reveal their wardrobes and to treasure their existing clothes.
In the twenty-first century, consumers can shop anytime online. Influenced by the overloading information of consuming goods throughout different media, fashion trends are sadly ephemeral. The twice a year seasons catwalk has become fourth a year by adding twice âresortâ transition seasons in between. In which means, consumers reach fashion brands advertisements nearly everyday such as Facebook and Twitter or other social networking devices. They might easily become compulsive shoppers under the power of advertising. Consequently, it turns to be overconsumption of clothes. In the research study, some consumers might have already forgotten some of their clothings left in the wardrobe. The question of âthe most memorial clothesâ was to investigate how the clothes evoke their memories. âThe secret world of haute coutureâ is a documentary programme in the UK in 2007, Betsy Bloomingdale intended to develop a way of memorable clothes.
âMemory is the treasure house of the mind wherein the monuments thereof are kept and preservedâ (Fuller n.d.). Eva believes the linkage between memory and fashion in a way of expressing the importance of sustainability become essential in this research study.
Therefore, this collection examines ways of extending the life cycle of clothes though attaching emotional values and how the colours and shinny fabrics work with storage system that could arouse people awareness of the neglected clothings/desire. As a designer, it is desirable to propose an attitude of appreciation to our consuming goods and in a sense of making customers understanding their participation in the consuming cycle with the natural resources, which might otherwise go unnoticed.
I wish to show my gratitude as below:

The new fresh and exciting menswear lifestyle brand will be launching spring 2012. The result of lead designer, Peter Jeun Ho Tsang, has combined luxurious silk jacquard fabrics, bold and beautiful colour, soft tailoring, and quirky design details to generate a playfully preppy collection. coeur is giving the modern day dandy a nod in the right direction - He is cool. He is confident. He is courageous.
The debut collection infuses exclusive silk woven at one of England's finest fabric mills and features slim fit trousers, fitted blazers to quirky traditional bow ties. Every gentlemen should know how to tie a bow tie! Fed by inspiration from classic novels such as Brideshead Revisited, Great Gatsby, and Handful of Dust, the fantasy worlds from the 1920s where cricket whites, tailored hunting jackets, and summer linen suits are updated for current lifestyles.
Working with the finest silk fabric mills in England, cÅurâs exclusive designs are brought to life; providing a unique touch to each and every individual garment and demonstrating the power of beauty within silk. Blending bold patterns and colour with the traditional craft of silk weaving, the end results are not only strengthening the product ranges on offer, but also reinforcing the brand values, and thus becoming a strand of brand DNA to be built upon over time.
Look out for more exciting things to come from coeur!
We are also looking for sales and PR associates to represent the brand.

The main discussion in this project is â The inability of humans to stay still.â I wanted to express a concept about returning to oneâs original nature, looking at nomads, their life and the nature power of making clothes from a new angle, with an idea about time and memory. The nomadic life style, especially in Central Asia, is one focus in my research. Nomadsâ everyday dress, accessories and daily essentials, the places they live and their hand-weaving technique also work as design references in this project.
âTime & Memoryâ went through the collection construction. This idea is shown mainly through the manufacturing methodology in the project. Edges of the fabrics were loosed naturally during the manufacturing process. The seaming methodology is complex. I needed to use hand stitching in the whole collection in order to present the natural power of making clothes. Traces of machines are not seen in the project. Fringes were created in some parts of the seams on the garments. Yarn-dyed woven fabrics are important materials in the project and an organic colour scheme is used to emphasize the concept
