MA Digital Fashion

I am an award winning artefact designer based in East London. Last year I was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Head of the British Fashion Council, Harold Tilman to study an MA in Digital Fashion at the London College of Fashion. During my time studying my MA I started to explore using 3D printing in jewellery design. I am now passionate about using 3D printing techniques mixed with my traditional background in fashion, thus creating complex and beautiful wearable art that would be impossible to create without 3d printing or without an indepth knowledge of classic design techniques.

Ring attach on body Close up

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Deformity free is an Autumn/ Winter 2013 women knitwear high- end collection inspired by minority groups of people who has disability or illness that affects their appearances, in order make contrast and question nowadays’ “standard of beauty” created by the world’s society. In depth research further assisted the design development to explore the possibilities between a normal body carrying an abnormal feature garment- that represents the minority body shape, wearers are able to distort their garment optionally through the way they wish to wear it, result creates unexpected unique silhouettes after worn on body. The key concept of the collection: it is filled with deformity possibilities controlled by wearer, reflecting those who were naturally born impairment bodies can also be considered as a form of beauty within the fashion world and everyday society. ------------------------------------------------- Photographer + Stylist: Jeanette Tang Model: Emily @ M+P Models Make up Artist: Mutsumi Shibahara

Having bold and graphic design aesthetic, this collection aims to visually reflect the idea of taking things out of their originally sensitive and controversial contexts in order to create new ideas. By providing visuals of The Third Reich uniforms, graphic design and German Folk clothing, the collection tries to propose a concept, in which people look at things without automatically trying to connect them to their primarily negative connotations. "My Heart, My Fellow Traveller" Spring.Summer.2014 | Story telling, through colour and craft | Having been in the media quite regularly, for all the wrong reasons, Pakistan seems to have built a notorious reputation. The international media highlights suicide attacks on military and civilian population, the backbreaking inflation, growing unemployment rate and the country’s fiscal debt. There is hardly any media coverage about the positive aspects of the country.. The verse by a notable Pakistani poet, Faiz Ahmed Faiz “My Heart, My Fellow Traveller” symbolizes all those things a heart contains within it, encompassing them as we go. The place you call home and the places you have been are impossible to let go of, and it is that experience the concept has been concieved from. Having moved to the UK from Pakistan eight years ago, the aspects of Mashaal’s homeland that were once mundane and ‘everyday’ now seem extraordinary. Through the collection there is an attempt to take the viewer on a journey through Pakistan’s visual culture, looking at the array of features that go unnoticed. Mashaal’s love for everything Pakistani, has provided the chance to open up the richly layered culture of Pakistan to a global audience. The collection aims to act as a narrative between Pakistan and the world, bridging the gap between perception and reality. Pakistani visual culture has been researched in depth focusing on mass culture comprising of communication through image and typography, advertising and in particular the phenomenon of Pakistani truck art. Drawings with the wrong hand to maintain the naivety of the subjects were screen printed, further combined with digital print, flock and hand embroidered french knots to create innovative and modern pieces. | Collaboration | This project is in collaboration with Surface Textiles: Print student Nayna Sisodiya. Nayna's concept revolves around celebrating women of the third world country and their roles in society that go unnoticed. The idea of highlighting hidden beauty is one being explored by both designers, however, with two different approaches. Mashaal's concept focuses on features of Pakistani visual culture and aims to celebrate them whereas Nayna has emphasised the status of women in less developed countries. The goal is the same: To highlight what has been forgotten and gets overlooked. | Education | London College of Fashion Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles ( Sep 2010-present)

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

A surface textiles designer specialising in screen printed and digitally printed textiles with a passion for colour.

Interest lies in creating textiles through traditional screen printing and dyeing techniques with a modern twist using watercolours, drawings and computer aided designs. The final major project explores the balance between nature and manmade, high-end fashion and the neglect through abandoned and decaying structures. Inspired by the physical, emotional and the power balance of decay and how they ‘tenaciously asserting themselves despite being overlooked by the majority of passers-by’ (Landy 2003). Creating a juxtaposition, as abandoned structures are seen as derelict and ruined but contain an element of beauty and fragility. As nature has invaded over such a long period of time the decaying process has created something delicate and unique. _EDUCATION_ London College of Fashion Ba (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles 2010-2013 London College of Fashion Foundation Diploma in Art and Design 2009-2010 _WORK EXPERIENCE_ Freelance Print Designer_ Mirjam Roudén Design Intern April-May 2011 Giles Sample Room Intern January-May 2012 Anna Sui Pattern Making Intern July-September 2012 _AWARDS ACHIEVEMENTS_ Chelsea Flower show t-shirt competition Runner up Annual membership for The Royal Horticultural Society _SKILLS_ Adobe_ InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator Screen printing_ discharge and devore Dyeing Digital Printing Drawings and technical drawings Pattern Cutting _CREDITS_ _FAUNA + FLORA_ Print_ Devika Rattu Dress_ Sofia Ilmonen Creative Director_ Rob Philips Photographer_ Kasia Wozniak Models_ Sophia at Select and Katharina at M+P Beauty_ Pace Chen Nails_ Lauren Michelle Pires _FLORAL DECAY_ Photographer_ GMGP Model_ Sophie at Select Beauty_ Pace Chen

Fan Xian Hueih_A | womenswear designer based in London |. Graduation collection, FXH 2012 is inspired by two contradicting elements, erotic fetishism and the power suit. The boxy shoulder in the pieces symbolizes power and authority in women, while the long and narrow silhouette with details such as burn out on suede are to embrace the sexiness in women. The collection displayed a range of garments featuring leather and fur with different shades of grey in herringbone and mohair. contact: fanxha@gmail.com _______________________________________________________ Photography: Carla Maria Güler Creative direction: Loko Yu Hair: I-Fan Wang Make up: Seulah Kim Model: Thea Roennebeck
