Toiling, pattern cutting, sewing, craft working, working with digital prints. • Volunteer at Future Fabrics Expo 2012 (Sustainable Fabrics Show) I’d help with preparation for the event, showing visitors around the exhibition. Working closely with Center for Sustainable Fashion. • Iris Van Herpen, design/technical intern 01/02/2012- 01/05/2012. Using hand craft techniques. Experimenting with innovative material (such as metal, plastic, leather) and techniques within garment making. Modelling on the stand. Working with leather. Working within haute-couture. Constructing garments. • Georgia Hardinge, pattern cutter/studio assistant, 03/2011-05/2011. Drafting, tracing, grading and cutting patterns. Working on the production, researching for design methods and ideas. • Aegis Charity, garment constructor, 06/2010-08/2010. Working on recycling project, remaking old clothes into new exciting garments In my latest collection I explore the idea of esotericism. This is a theory that there is something beyond the materialistic world, which we can not rationalize with our 5 senses, branching out into phenomena of spirituality and the new age movement. New Age movement was born in the late 19th century, based on the idea promoted by Madame Blavatsky and the Theosophists; that there is a universal wisdom tradition uniting the spiritual/scientific teachings of both East and West. The holistic ideas behind the new age movement are alive amongst young people today. I explore the lifestyles of these tribes. New age movement draws the ideas from ancient and perennial wisdom teachings seek to gain higher knowledge of our being, such as Buddhism, ancient Maya, Hinduism, Aztecs, also scientific theories, such as the chaos theory blur the line between science and religion. People that are part of the contemporary new age movement tend to be interested in travelling. A sleeping bag would be one of the main items carried by them since it’s easily fold-able. There from comes the decision to marry the ideas of re-incarnation, travelling, and sustainability (up cycling and deconstruction of sleeping bags). I am an inventor; I experiment with innovative techniques, unorthodox materials and compose new formulas. Also I seek to invent designs that don’t only look intriguing, but also enhance well-being in our society, culture and environment, creating balance and sustainability. I look for sustainable innovations; this makes the design process more challenging and purposeful, creating a whole new mission for me as a fashion designer. I research into primitive ethnic techniques of different cultures, and mix them with advances in technology to create my own vision of the future. My main aim is sustainability and innovation, which results in my signature look as futuristic and ethnic. http://abykova1.wix.com/anna http://annabykova.tumblr.com/

BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery

Maria is a London based fashion jewellery designer, who graduated The London College of Fashion (2013) with a BA in Fashion Jewellery. Originally Maria took a foundation course at Central St Martin's in Art and Design, where she intended to embark on a career in Women's wear. However after some mentoring and self realization, Maria discovered that her true passion and talents were in jewellery design. During her time spent at LCF Maria developed her own style of design based on organic life and shapes taken from nature, combined with a mystical element of life forms from outer space. This unique combination led to a creative final project which she is very proud to present. Through experimentation Maria learned to use digital technology such as rapid prototyping, which enabled her to create the pieces that she had envisaged. Maria's graduate collection was inspired by nature and a curiosity of what lies beneath in the ocean together with the same curiosity for what exists beyond planet Earth. The final pieces are based on a mythical sea creature which was made with black lacquered plastic and Swarovski crystals. email: mariasokolyanskaya@gmail.com

The collection is aimed at high-end women’s wear in a western market. The typical customer is an individual who can appreciate the time and effort involved in creating hand woven fabrics. The process of manufacture is mainly handloom, and materials and textures are a combination of wickers, masks, and pottery. These age-old techniques and traditional crafts elements have been translated and incorporated into a collection that is reflective of a modern contemporary silhouette, sourced through ethical textiles.

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

I am a Japanese designer with an international background who loves aesthetics with a hint of fantasy in reality. This Autumn/Winter 2013-14 collection was produced within a collaborative team: two students from Surface Textiles, myself in knitwear and Ping-Yi Lee in embellishment, dedicated to Janet Kim from Menswear. The concept of childhood imagination was studied through areas such as psychology, sociology, and visual expressions to understand the significance of children's creativity from carious perspectives. These themes were then interpreted through knit, embellishment, and shape development to create garments that embodies playful and sophisticated innovation. Like the monsters drawn by children, the mood of the project reflects on their contradictory characterisation as intimidating but beautiful, expressive but hidden, juvenile but mature... Discovering these imaginary creatures that are thought to be watching us from the dark closet of underneath the bed took us on a journey to explore the colours, movement, and textures for the collection. Special thanks to Saga Furs for the wonderful sponsorship. For more please check: www.merixeo.com

'My body is where your shameful crime and freedom of my mind is fighting' (The Murmuring, 1995) The collection is about Comfort Women whom were forced into a sexual slavery during the Second World War. The attention toward the issue of comfort women, started with a documentary called The Murmuring published in 1995. Title of the A/W 2013 collection ' Frozen Flower' is a metaphorical meaning of Comfort Women as flower and their youth and time being stopped from the day they became Comfort Women. Pure and Innocence are two words represent an atmosphere of the collection. The inspirations are from two different sides of comfort women, bravery and strong will they have but unstable and fragile inner mind. Special thanks to Saga for sponsoring furs for the collection. contact, d-kim@hotmail.co.uk for any enquiries.

(****Please mention the name of ownership for all images as the title of each photo above if you want to share or publish online, thanks you;)) A small mens collection which makes use of series of hand movement especially hug to express how the (dis) connection between people to people and the loneliness by my experience. Some keywords have become the main points of my collection. “Hugs”, “Communication”, “Interesting”, “Fun”, “flourishing”, “a bit implication of sex”, “comfort”, “to be protected”, “to be surrounded”, ‘to cherish"“warmth”, “memory”, "happiness", “childhood”, “lifetime”, ”Let go”, etc. Interaction and communication are the action to express love and depart from loneliness between human beings. 'Hands" is the key point of the collection as very figurative object to express this abstract idea. Moreover, this small collection is developed like a short story of life. The 6 outfits represent their own story and meaning respectively. In order to make people feel warm and hugged, some of the clothes would be padding and the hands (gloves) would be adding wad to make it looks puffy as childish soft toys. Some pieces are also to keep repeating a certain part (For example, sleeves) to make people feeling full and not alone or enlarge the scale by magnifying a certain part on clothes, which makes people feel a sense of relief. Everybody needs love, Don't you?
