BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

•Statement A London College of Fashion Womenswear Design graduate, currently pursuing a successful career in Fashion Design. Specific interest in pattern cutting, sewing and tailored clothing. Highly motivated individual with an eye for detail and expertise in crochet, knitwear, print and surface embellishments as well as good skills in CAD programs such as Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. An energetic individual with professional team leadership skills looking for challenging, creative graduate design opportunity from July 2012 •Antidote As a future fashion designer, global issues are very important to me and this is reflected in my work. Fashion has always played an important role in war and is constantly used in propaganda and advertisements. In today’s society we are under a constant and intense media bombardment about what is “accepted” and capitalism has turned fashion into a tool for mass production and fast consumption. Slowing down the process, I want to explore a more human alternative and concentrate on the essence of fashion which, for me, is fabrics, craft, and details. This minimal Autumn/Winter collection explores mobility within comfortable tailored clothes. I was inspired by a range of German Second World War uniforms that inspired the design and where the female becomes in a constant touch with masculine shapes. I also was inspired by Space Age images which led me to experiment and develop my own futuristic feel to the mood and fabrics where I experimented with using special machinery such as Tanaka. www.hellysaz.com www.facebook.com/hellysaz •Education 2009- Present BA Fashion Design & Technology Womens Wear The London College of Fashion, London Projects • Final Major Collection • Final Major Proposal • Craft and Technology exploring personal identity • Fashion and Sustainability • Tailoring Team Work • Denim and Jersey • The White Shirt 2007-2008 Diploma in Fashion Folio Central Saint Martin College of Art and Design, London 2006-2007 Diploma in Foundation Art and Design Cumbria Institute of the Arts, Carlisle, UK 2004-2006 HND Graphic Design Cumbria Institute of the Arts, Carlisle, UK • Design Experience 2011 May - September Tiger of Sweden Stockholm Design Assistance www.tigerofsweden.se 2010 June - October Charles Anastase London PA Assistance 2010 February - April Rui Leornades London Assistance http://www.ruileonardes.com/ • Employment 2008-2009 August - September The Home of Alfred Dunhill London Fashion Consultant 2008 June -September Massimo Dutti Knightsbridge Head Cashier/Supervisor •Achievements Awarded Sponsorship with zip supplier Albert Zip http://www.albertzips.com.tr/ British Fashion Council short list graduate Paper Print Editorial shoot Portfolio review http://www.britishfashioncouncil.com/ Shortlisted Nina De York Fashion Illustration Award 2012 LCF 2012 Press Runway Show Candidate Cutler and Gross Student Finalist in Cutler and Gross Launching Project 0734 cutlerandgross.com Not Just A Label - BLACK SHEEP Becoming a Black Sheep in Not Just A Label, announced as one of the most promising and visionary designers of the moment •Skills Adobe Creative: Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign 2D to 3D realisation Indebt Researching & Referencing Drawing & Technical Drawings (hand rendered) Illustrations (Multi-Media) Illustrations (Photoshop) Collaging Technical drawings (CAD) Silk Screen Printing Digital Printing Knitting (Hand) Crotchet Weaving Embroidery Pattern Cutting (Flat & Stand Methods) Drafting patterns Toiling Tailoring Manufacture domestic and industry machinery Manufacture, specialising in Jersey Specialised Machinery: Tanaka Graphic Design Trend Predictions Styling Texture specialisation Hairdressing Makeup Image retouching Art Direction Language; BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology (Womenswear)

London based Womenswear designer, strong focus on craft enhanced by creative pattern-cutting. EDUCATION: London College of Fashion: BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear University for the Creative Arts, Farnham,Surrey. Foundation Dipolma: Fashion and Textiles St John the Baptist Sixth Form: 9 A/AS Levels A-C WORK EXPERIENCE: Topshop: Design Role/ Assisting Tailoring Designers Jonathan Saunders: Pattern Cutting / Production Intern Tatty Devine: Studio assistant Davina Hawthorne: Studio assistant Originating from a desire to achieve both pattern and texture from my designs, I adopted the unique craft of patchwork. I looked at the Amish Lancaster quilts for colour inspiration and fused this colour saturated pallette with fresh pastels and fluros from the British 80's 'street' look. With contextual research exploring 70's fashions and fads (an era that has earned itself the title of 'Fashion's Wasteland' and the 'Decade style forgot), I found much enjoyment in analysing the fashion 'faux-pas' and novelty of Glam Rock dress, and the contrast with the mass-produced world of catalogue clothing. The technique of patchwork for me contains heritage, creativity and individuality ,patching each section of fabric together separately. My collection was made predominately of silks - taffetas, crepe de chines, sand-washed and satins. The use of the different types of silk cut on different angles, complemented by pattern and colour, is what I have found most enjoyable in making my collection. I have recently designed a range of digitally printed silk scarves to accompany my collection ,along with a selection of perspex patchwork visors for the LCF Press show ,which I have found exciting to design. The end result has been bold, impactful and vibrant! The intention of the collection has been achieved in the production of a range which is wearable in the most practical sense- yet stand-out in its colours and craft. Timeless Story Look 6, Details

FdA Fashion Design Technology (Designer Pattern Cutter)

I am a creative individual driven by the desire to excel, and a love to learn. My work reflects my ability to solve problems and address issues creatively. I am inspired by grand scales and details. By three dimentionality. As a dentist, I find that I have a unique approach to many materials and techniques. I want to always keep going forward discovering new ways in which I can incorporate these into my work. Innovation in pattern cutting is what I aspire to. Using new materials to push my limits excites me. Both these things have come to fruition while studying on the FdA Designer Pattern Cutter course. I have worked successfully in a team as well as individually. I feel confident in my ability to contribute in a working environment.

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology (Menswear)

(****Please mention the the ownership of the photos as the title of each photo above if you want to share or publish online, thanks you;)) A small mens collection for A/W 2012-2013 which makes use of series of hand movement especially hug to express how the (dis) connection between people to people and the loneliness by my experience. Some keywords have become the main points of my collection. “Hugs”, “Communication”, “Interesting”, “Fun”, “flourishing”, “a bit implication of sex”, “comfort”, “to be protected”, “to be surrounded”, ‘to cherish" “warmth”, “memory”, "happiness", “childhood”, “lifetime”, ”Let go”, etc. Interaction and communication are the action to express love and depart from loneliness between human beings. 'Hands" is the key point of the collection as very figurative object to express this abstract idea. Moreover, this small collection is developed like a short story of life. The 6 outfits represent their own story and meaning respectively. In order to make people feel warm and hugged, some of the clothes would be padding and the hands (gloves) would be adding wad to make it looks puffy as childish soft toys. Some pieces are also to keep repeating a certain part (For example, sleeves) to make people feeling full and not alone or enlarge the scale by magnifying a certain part on clothes, which makes people feel a sense of relief. Everybody needs love, Don't you? K, [HyungTae Kim]. "I don’t like the term “fashion”. I am not a fashion designer. I am a clothes maker”. "A/W 2013 Generation." A/w 2013 "The idea of K A/w 13 collection is to explore the sensitive relationship between youth-cultures and parental culture." My concept is to look at the contrasts between the themes of 'Father/Tradition, Youth/rebellious and Uniform/War. What inspired me were the memory and feelings I had when I was an adolescent boy. The memory of trying my Father's clothes is unforgettable. What remains deep inside of me is the feeling of warmth and comfort. To more accurately describe, it was like wearing a very warm blanket in a very cold and lonely winter. This feelings got stronger when I was trying his military jacket. I wanted to deliver that feeling of warmness of oversized khaki fabrics whilst having the adolescent boy's rebelliousness attitude that I had as I grow up, as his jacket getting smaller. "Hyung tae Kim’s was also great – it was a very good season.” Backpacks featured strongly in a great deal of collections, particularly in Kim’s who presented low-slung oversized backpacks combined with large, long coats that looked reminiscent of ‘typical’ father’s clothing but with a younger fresher vibe" - Hilary Alexander Academic London College of Fashion 2009 -2012 BA(Hons) FDT Menswear FT Northumbria University 2006-2009 BA(Hons)FDT Fashion Design Foundation Degree Work Experience Reworked [london] 2009 - 2011 [VINTAGE, ARMY CLOTHE REWORKED SHOP] ASSIATANT Diorasa 2007-2008 [Tailor shop] TAILOR ASSISTANT Press: http://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/fashion/catwalk/AW2012/ReadyToWear/london/london_college_of_fashion_-_ba/full-length-photos -http://www.gomoneyways.com/?p=65953 -http://jaci-mag.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/untitled-ss-2013-mens-collection-acne.html -http://www.fashion.arts.ac.uk/2012/live/ -http://disordermagazine.com/lcfs-upcoming-talent/style/ -http://www.flickr.com/photos/53179772@N06/7490122378/ -http://fashionstyleology.com/hyung-tae-kim-k-aw-2013-lcf-ba-show/ -http://blogs.fashion.arts.ac.uk/snapshot/2012/06/29/last-night-in-shoreditch/ -http://nowfashion.com/28-06-2012-london-college-of-fashion-2012-part-1-live-event-event-2256.html -http://www.tatler.com/bystander/events/2012/june/london-college-of-fashion-graduate-show#/7516/image/25 - http://www.catwalking.com/ -http://www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/autumn-winter-2012/ready-to-wear/london-college-of-fashion-ba/page/7# -http://www.fashion156.com/collections/london-college-of-fashion-ba-graduate-show-2012/ Contact. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology (Surface Textiles)

Fashion and textile graduate, specialised in embroidery. Work reflects an appreciation of all-over textured embroidery and clever use of colour. Often finds inspiration in natural history and science and often uses contemporary sources to develop new ideas. Has a strong interest in embroidery for menswear and aims to design textiles that can be used for both mens- and womenswear fashion. Born in Reykjavik, Iceland in 1988. Moved to Danmark in 1996 and spent 6 years there with her family. Moved back to Iceland in 2002 and got a Commercial Diploma (range of subjects equal to GCSE) and later a Matriculation Examination in Maths and Science. In 2008 she moved to London and did a foundation degree in fashion in CSM, followed by a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles with a specialism in embroidery and is now looking for work experience. Cruise: Cruise is a collaboration between myself and menswear student Luke Shaw. By joining our faculties we have created a fantasy world built on imagination to inspire us to design a trans-seasonal mixed mens- and womenswear collection for the year 2012. http://showtime.arts.ac.uk/lukeshaw Links: http://www.c-heads.com/2012/07/31/flower-twins-by-flora-deborah/ http://oliviawright.4ormat.com/c-heads-com http://photos.latitudefestival.co.uk/2012/?image_keywords=artist:Graduate+Fashion+Show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8xqp1Ptaq4&feature=player_embedded&noredirect=1 Contact Info: freyjasjofn@gmail.com

Loko Yu BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear http://showtime.arts.ac.uk/lokoyu http://my.lcffirstmove.co.uk/graduates/6831 AW/12 : Influenced by non-fashion bodies presented in the form of NANA sculptures by Niki de Saint Phalle, anti-mainstream style movements and individualist body art, I explored a multiple shade scheme of black that is defined through 3D surface embellishment, giving the illusion of body art growing from the wearer, through the garment, gaining its own life. I've researched sub-cultures and used elements of them in very fine detailing of my pieces, such as functioning piercing into a seam to create a piece. As a designer, I am constantly inspired by people who break free of society’s expectations to fit into a certain mould, body and appearance. I always seek to explore and develop a concept fully without restrictions like trends or pre-set ideas of what the final garments should be or shouldn’t be. This way, the full potential of an idea can be realized; sometimes mistakes made during the development of a garment can lead to unintentional great outcomes. BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery

francescasmith@live.co.uk www.francescasmith.co.uk Francesca Smith's work explores the capabilities and juxtaposition of combining hard materials with soft textiles within a fashion jewellery context. She explores a variety of materials from woods to fabrics, to metals to plastics. Exploring the possibilities of applying alternative materials to a fashion jewellery context. Francesca Smith's BA graduate collection: "I have always been fascinated by modern social attitudes towards remembering the dead and how people deal with the loss of a loved one. By looking at the extravagant rituals and customs of the Victorian era and the funerary practices of its people, my intent was to produce a collection, which confronts people with the idea of positive remembrance. By exploring the designs of Victorian jewellery and cemetery art, I sort to recreate classic designs using modern technologies. This contrast reflects the concept of current attitudes towards death compared to that of the Victorians. Using 3D design software and the process of rapid prototyping, I created nylon components embodying elements of Victorian mourning design. I chose to combine these elements with human hair and fabric to create a material juxtaposition, which reflects my design style of using hard materials with soft textiles." BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology (Surface Textiles)

Copyright © Stephanie Ghoussain 2012 I am a surface textiles designer specialising in digital printed textiles, computer aided design and embroidery techniques. I use textiles, specifically print as a storytelling tool; colour, shape and texture punctuate my collections in playful combinations. Drawing is key to my design process, along with 3D experimentation, collage and redrawing from photographic manipulations. My aesthetic is free and fluid with sobering elements of geometry from traditional Middle Eastern textiles. My recent work is inspired by Edward Said's concept of "Orientalism" - the portrayal of stereotypical Middle Eastern identities in the western media and the representation of ethnic identities through an orientalism "lens". The prints for this collection portray a landscape of ethnic bodies, as lines they are displaced and dis-located. Facial and bodily shapes like Dali's figures, bleed out from their original contours to merge into each other and melt into the earth to create a distorted and exaggerated, foreign landscape - this has become the "middle eastern" ethnoscape, perceived historically and contemporaneously in art and literature. The aestheticisation of the concept has come from my process of research and exploration of the theme of distorted ethnic identities. The faces of ethnically diverse women in London have been photographed through concave ad convex lenses to create exaggerated proportions and distortions of their physical identities. These photos have been further distorted using web cams and digital software. I have drawn from these images in a style that is free and fluid, black and white to begin with and then re-coloured, again offering another distorted perspective of reality. The silhouettes for my collection consider what a world post-orientalism would be like. Oversized in proportion and layered with printed fabric the wearer is covered in story upon story, reinterpreted, and re-portrayed from various angles of the orientalism lens. The body’s own curves and proportions are obscured; individual history is replaced by a story of colonial history and images of ideological colonisation. Post apocalyptic feelings of isolation and anxiety or fear of the ethnic other come into play with the mood. As people who perceive the ethnic other through an orientalism lens that convolutes identity with stereotyped visions that have been democratised through orientalist art and mass media, we isolate ourselves through de-familiarity with the rest of the world and its diverse beauty. Final Major Project:Chameleon 2012

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology (Womenswear)

Chameleon 2012 The idea of the collection is based around an amazing lizard, the' chameleon'. Chameleons have the unique ability to change their skin colour to camouflage their surroundings, which in turn protects them from their predators. This collection allows us to explore issues of identity. Particularly how we change ourselves in order to ‘fit in’ by constantly adapting to the majority, even though this might not be true to ourselves. The issues touched upon in this collection are an unspoken rule in the world- adapting and being camouflage with the majority is something we have to do in order to cope and succeed in the world. lingling.lee.keiling@gmail.com 07540447806

Tidy Up The Commotion

BA (Hons) Fashion: Design Technology (Footwear Design)

The work reflects conceptual meanings behind a series of neatly organised objects in various visual manifestos. The main inspiration derives from the works of Ursus Werhli. Through mixing ordinary scattered elements into a minimal and controlled arrangement, there is a new perception of the original. It is a double take of imagery which becomes a personal documentation, similar creating a time capsule. Pieces are split apart or flatten out, only to construct an altered form. This is taking an existing object, transforming into a personal idea to the object. Decorative stitch details enhances the outlook of basic footwear silhouettes in the design. However, such details may have to be toned down to balance the shapes from the sole units. MDF takes form of the experimental stages of constructing the sole unit. The sections are made of series of laser cut shapes through the basic outline construction from Rhino. These panels that joins together creates the heel and other sole units. Acrylic is the final selection material wise as it is lightweight, fragile when it is in pieces but durable once they join up. LOOKBOOK: LOOK 4 SHEEPSKIN TOP

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

ELLY CHENG 2012. ellissellielly@gmail.com The collection influence by emotion memories from my childhood, it is about the moments of my mother and grandmother spending time with me and my brother, while my father is away for work. The inspiration is about aprons and floral dresses which they daily wear, and its more about layering aprons and fluffiness shaping, softness texture. I have been explored to create in different texture, hand dyed sheepskin to bring life into the collection from the brightness color, hand dyed wadding and layered it to create shades of color and digital print of the nature softness, also mixed with a translucent silicone rubber sheet to create a contrast texture. My graduate collection 'Motion Captured' was inspired by capturing movement through a series of repeated images and the Futurist movement. I developed these ideas through various different knit techniques to create a small collection. I was particularly inspired by reversed jacquards, which I worked into with art deco style beading, and oversized triangles which created an interesting contrast to the twenties silhouette. Grey Matters Magazine

BA (Hons) Fashion Journalism

"We can all fly as high as the dreams we dare to live. Unless we are a chicken" said Edward Monkton. Rather profound for something I read in Clinton Cards but I, sir, am no chicken. A journalist, writer, creative director and cultural force of nature I have a passion for the written word and an eye for aesthetics. In my time at London College of Fashion I have built a reputation for reliability, skill and the ability to command a situation and get the job done to a high standard. I have acted as editor for the entire year group's industry magazine as well as representing the course (Fashion Journalism) on numerous occasions and completed my studies achieving a First-Class honours degree. I'm also known for my sky high quiff which was there before, during and after Jedward so, as you see, I'm all about longevity. Professionally I have written my own blog for several years which has gone from strength to strength and I'm invited on press events for the likes of John Smedley, Gieves and Hawkes and even the Imperial War Museum (I'm something of a closet geek) amongst many others. I have been asked to write for numerous print and online publications including Notion Magazine (where I also worked as a fashion assistant), Ribbed, Toni & Guy (where again I also styled for spreads) and many others. I would now consider myself equipped with the skills to one day be an accomplished writer and journalist and they are skills that, coupled with ambition, determination and integrity, will hopefully enable me to fulfill my own aims and aspirations. Add to all of this random beginnings in television (Kirsty Wark is my homegirl) and you might say I'm a bubbling, nutritious melting pot of versatility. Of course you might not say that but some people didn't say the Earth was round and look at what people think of them now. Contact me at: mckinley.harry@googlemail.com It will make a nice change from the Bank of Nigeria offering me money. Thanks for checking me out.
