Empire of the Clouds is a dramatic futuristic representation of aviation achievements, throughout the past, present and future. Inspired by the true design innovation and achievement from machines of flight throughout the entirety of the concept. Focusing on model making to gain a unique perspective and develop an understanding of the overwhelming human drive, almost obsession, to achieve what we cannot do naturally, to fly. Passionate about research Buchanan has a meticulous attitude towards uncovering all elements in a concept. In this collection it enabled a distinctive perspective to a large subject, creating a concept based around model making and accessibility of a globally collective dream. Through innovative use of materials and conceptual pattern cutting, Buchanan has achieved striking shapes and confident structural lines, reflecting the impressive machines that inspired. Fascination with the utterly indescribable, near magical, machines that are so integrated, ordinary and standardised, motivated a need to highlight what a truly extraordinary achievement flight, both modern and historical actually is. The simple fact that more is known about space and our surrounding atmosphere than the depths of our own oceans, demonstrates so clearly what a shared and magnificent dream flight has, and always will be. A bold array of colours embodies this collection, adopting a playful tone to some truly British essentials. Inspired by my own British/Burmese hybrid background, this collection deals with the contrast between hybrid cultures and the truly British. Originally inspired by research into old pictures of my parents in London this collection aimed at capturing a unique interpretation of what it is to be British. Amalgamating the traditionally English trench and duffle coat, with the more modern puffer jacket, in the hopes of creating a hybrid piece that captures the essence of my interpretation of Englishness. BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery

Born in Israel, Liron Kliger is a London based jewellery designer who graduated a BA (HON) in Jewellery Fashion Design at the London College of Fashion. Liron developed a passion for jewellery design whilst completing a foundation in fashion design course at West London College, Liron developed a love for raw materials and desire to create unique pieces encompassing the form and essence of the material used. The primary influence on Liron’s work (apart from the raw materials) evolved from years spent living and travelling in cosmopolitan cities including Barcelona, Paris, Milan and Tel Aviv. Liron was exposed cultural idiosyncrasies which in turn influenced the way in which she combines / uses materials and their subsequent adaptation to her needs. Liron’s latest project developed from a fascination with snakeskin and infatuation with catwalk pieces; motivating her to create her own interpretation via snakeskin inspired bangles. Liron’s previous catwalk projects include a large feathered neck piece and oversized dice jewellery. In the foundation year of her BA Liron was awarded third place in the UK in a competition run by the Metro newspaper for her creation of a jewellery body suit utilising recycled materials. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

Oksana Anilionyte I would like to thank Saga Furs for a wonderful sponsorship. Collection is based on idea of a soft control. The collection is an investigation into inter-relation of minimalism and modern women. I found my inspiration in Michelangelo Antonioni films L’Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), Eclipse (1962) and Il deserto rosso (1964). His films concentrate on how the modern world influence people and their feelings. Personal feelings, doubts, moods are substance of the films. The works and processes of Robert Morris, Tony Cragg and Daniel Arsham sculptures and abstract painting of Dale Frank served as the initial inspiration for the silhouette, colour, texture and details of the collection. The aim was to mix different techniques and inspirations to reach new and unexpected levels. I embraced the complexities and simplicities by different techniques to reinvent a version of femininity. Robert Morris felt sculptures led to create new ways of using seams to express the fluidity of line. The collection is a lot about the lines that are so pure, so clear, that they convey simplicity in their perfection. The purity is combined with texture that comes from tufting embroidery and soft fur to create a new level of feelings that garments create when touched. A dialogue between time and timelessness runs through the progression of the minimalist aesthetic which is felt in fluidity of seam lines. The collection incorporates a range of luxury fabrics (cashmere, wool, silk, fur, leather) to examine the balance between textures, silhouette and a purity of line. "GEOLOGY OF SHOES" Project is taking inspiration from sediment layers and from effects of erosive processes in nature as well as from traditional shoe making techniques. Special construction method has been developed and used across the collection. Multiple layers of leather scrap pieces are added on the last and subsequently sanded down to achieve the final shape and unique colour pattern of the shoe. Colour scheme is influenced by old geological maps. Barbora's work reflects deep technical knowledge and creative competence. She likes to challenge classic shoe making techniques, yet use them with respect and celebrate its value. Playful and inquisitive thinking brought into old craftsmanship is what makes her work strong and unique.

Copyright © 2013 Victoria Rowley An energetic and open-minded print designer who obsesses over experimental applications and illustrative drawing. With a trademark delicate hand, exciting subjects are florid and evocative. 8=========D My recent work, in a rather farcical and juvenile manner, set out to explore themes of fleshy surfaces and sexuality. The influence of imagery from the photography of Pierre et Gilles, and film such as Henri-Georges Clouzot’s L’Enfer, and that of the German Expressionist genre, led me to respond to the graphic compositions and carnal imagery using harsh contrasts of colour; over-saturated and suffused. Abstract interpretations with screen printing using devore, discharge and procion techniques onto silk velvet and organzas, intended to replicate the real sensuality and lustre of the skin. Using alternative methods in response to my findings, enlarged and distorted images of glitter and wax as an initial layer to the composition, was adopted in keeping to the uncanny as a regular motif. Interacting more exaggerated motifs of pearlescent lemon and lavender colours, with dark harmonious earth shades to make the smooth textures advance, and to radiate in a hypnotic quality. Such frivolity having integrated into print development, seeming to convey a very stylistic aesthetic, I wanted further exploration to circulate around a discussion on taste. It was all the more enticing to use figurative, hand-rendered applications to fully utilize the provoking combinations of imagery I was sourcing. As a reaction against notions of good taste, bad taste is fully explored through archetypical motifs of the grotesque and the beautiful, with the writings of Umberto Eco being of key influence. The outraged Eco’s humorously dry take on objects of American ‘Hyper-real’, (almost perfectly fake ornamental replicas of icons in European arts/culture), inspired me to juxtapose the crude imagery with more traditional academic art. Florid pencil drawings of botanics and genitalia with leafy foliage have evolved into monstrous print placements. Jumper detail: textile collaboration with Brogan Toyn, for

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Zoe is a London based textile designer, specialising in embroidered textiles for both Menswear and Womenswear. She flourishes in a creative environment and is constantly engaging in opportunities to expand and enhance an innate artistic flair. A strong attraction to decoration and an acute awareness of colour and aesthetics, stem from Zoe's intrinsic desire to enhance and develop a fun, uplifting and energetic embroidery style, drawing on aspects of global cultures both old and new. In particular, Zoe is extremely passionate about colour, constantly seeking inspiration to manipulate and embellish a wide range of vibrant and exuberant textile materials. Zoe's FMP collection, is inspired by 60s nostalgia and children's artwork, targeting the older customer. It aims to regenerate fabric surfaces that are beautiful and alluring, through her love of colour and abstract illustration style. As an individual, Zoe loves working with other designers, in order that her textiles can meet a wider audience: womenswear student Man Yim and Zoe, have recently collaborated for their FMP photoshoot. In addition, within her graduate collection Zoe has collaborated with Menswear student Brogan Toyn for ‘Jamaican me Crazy’. The collection, an eccentric yet sensational , SS2013 sportswear range, has been selected for the LCF Press Show. The textiles for ‘Jamaican me Crazy’ further reflect Zoe’s ability to cater for a wide customer base and showcase her unconventional style towards textile design. Reversing the constraints on gender, ‘Jamaican me Crazy’ is a rebellion against frequently used homophobic dancehall lyrics, inspired by the controversial musical style and promiscuity of Jamaica's Dancehall Queens. The textiles are tactile and enticing, with soft rainbow furs creeping along the edges of garments. In turn, tight crotches are emphasized by brilliantly printed and metallic lurex fabrics, with surges of complex mark making forming these prints. Bedazzling, sequined crop tops emphasize an outlandish street style, contradicting urban aesthetics. In addition, references to dancehall contemporaries in the hip hop genre, are portrayed through basketball shorts engulfed in colour and the sparkle of iridescent fabrics. Zoe’s sensitivity towards colour is portrayed here, through applying heat pressed patterns and disperse dyes to fabrics. This enables the juxtapositions of colour to be an important focus within the collection. Red or black are often familiarised with promiscuity, however, avoiding seedy connotations ‘Jamaican me Crazy’ adopts modest, pastel hues. These effectively distract from potentially erotic undertones, and encourage the energy of the dancehall for both onlooker and wearer. BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development

Rebecca Morter is a london based fashion Designer born in Auckland, New Zealand, expecting to graduate with Honours in BA Fashion Design and Development this coming July 2013. Rebecca’s New Zealand Heritage filters into her work, founded upon New Zealand’s unusual natural resources combined with a contemporary design approach. In 2011, Rebecca won the contract to design the restaurant uniforms for the london 2012 Olympic games, runner-up to designing a collection of dresses for Whistles in 2011 and most recently, shortlisted for the Deutsche Bank awards 2013. In 2012, Rebecca spent eight months working within the Ready-to-wear design team at Alexander Wang, as well as other design work experience with Simone Rocha, Paul Costelloe, and John Lewis’s new range; Weekend, where Rebecca designed the first inhouse jewellery collection. My work celebrates the female form, and I find myself continuously playing with the idea of revealing, but at the same time concealing the body. Leathers will always play a leading role due to my new zealand heritage, and somewhat due to my recent work experience with the design team at Alexander wang. An amalgamation between the lightest of fabrics with heavier, grainy, dense leathers. The existence of extraordinary designers like thierry mugler, who prove that fashion should be experimental, extravagant and truly riveting. I design for a woman who knows what she wants; a powerful, driven woman with a flare for the innovative and different.

BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery

Katharine Anne Taylor, ‘KAT’, graduated from London College of Fashion with a BA(Hons) in Fashion Jewellery. To compliment her studies, KAT gained experience in jewellery and accessory design and production in both jewellery and fashion design studios. From ethical contemporary silversmith Ute Decker to Vivienne Westwood and Holly Fulton. KAT’s efforts to explore craft and responsible design and production have been combined with studies in to human form, ergonomics and sentimentalism to create a variety of statement fashion accessories. The current collection ‘Twisted’ explores luxurious, bespoke accessories. “Luxury is comfort. To me, comfort comes from quality materials, fit and an emotional connection with an object, something that is catered for in bespoke design.” ‘Craftech’; the development of craft with digital processes, is used to mimic hand forged hot metal work forms into different materials. Using the traditional blacksmithing technique of twisting, KAT develops forms on 3D software such as Rhino to create files for CNC machining. Using soft, warm English Walnut wood creates striking frames that are light and comfortable. The pieces celebrate and accentuate fluid curves and twisting forms. The combination of Walnut and Brass detailing reflects KAT’s appreciation of traditional products, but the use of digital processes transform the materials into eye catching contemporary pieces. “Living in London fuels my creativity, I love the vibrance and diversity of the City, but I often find time to enjoy the outdoors. My designs are a reflection of life between the natural and the manmade and the way I see the world around me.” Continuing the development of her eyewear for the designer market, KAT is concentrating on materials and local manufacturing research to inform her support of British Fashion production. As well as her own projects and commissions, KAT is seeking collaborative projects within the jewellery, accessories and eyewear industries. info@katharineannetaylor.com http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/katharine-anne-taylor/42/205/307/ http://my.lcffirstmove.co.uk/graduates/7819 PRESS http://www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/spring-summer-2014/ready-to-wear/london-college-of-fashion-ba/full-length-photos/gallery/1004104 http://www.fashion156.com/daily-blog/london-college-of-fashion-class-of-2013-catwalk-show/ CREDITS LCF Press Runway Collaboration 2013 Eyewear by Katharine Anne Taylor Menswear tailoring by Andreas Kristoffer Feet-Martinsen Bags & Belts by Stevan Saville Photography by James Rees Creative Direction, Rob Phillips Beauty, Pace Chen Model, Luke Walker at AMCK Models PROJECTS Fashion Jewellery design for Save the Children Charity, 'Born to Shine' Campaign http://www.ecouterre.com/london-fashion-students-turn-silly-bandz-into-bespoke-jewelry-for-save-the-children/ http://www.handbag.com/fashion/news/a424412/london-college-of-fashion-teams-up-with-save-the-children.html http://housepr.com/london-college-of-fashion-creates-bespoke-‘born-to-shine’-jewellery-with-save-the-children/ BLOGS http://blogs.arts.ac.uk/fashion/2012/04/12/jewellery-designer-featured-in-fashion-film/

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Olivia Howick is a Surface Textiles for Fashion student specializing in embroidery and embellishment, with a passion for transforming unexpected materials into luxurious fashion embellishment. Her graduate collection: ‘Medicate Me’ is a high-end ready to wear womenswear collection, that demonstrates the collision of contemporary and traditional approaches to medicine, through the exploration of Native American culture and advances in scientific medicine. The collection draws upon a textile tradition, and transforms it to demonstrate a clinical aesthetic which will appeal to the contemporary consumer. Exploration of new materials, in particular the use of PVC, has allowed for highly creative and innovative textile development through embroidery processes, that reflect on traditional craftsmanship, whilst evoking a clinical and medicinal aesthetic. Transforming materials is becoming an increasingly important aspect of Olivia’s work. This collection saw PVC hose pipes cut, dyed and stitched to become PVC beadwork. Combining this with satin stitch work and screen printed fabric, Olivia likes to work with both traditional aspects to textile design as well more unconventional material. Integral to Olivia’s practice is her illustration and drawing. Specializing in highly detailed hand rendered work, her illustration style is graphic, yet rich in textile inspired texture and detail. Olivia was selected as a finalist for the Nina de Yorke fashion illustration prize, and has also been shortlisted to compete to illustrate for the Maria Luisa website. Olivia has been selected for the LCF Press Exhibition 2013 and will be exhibiting a sculptural textile piece which demonstrates the concepts surrounding her Final Collection, as well as showcasing new textile development. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

'We Raphaelites' Press Release The collection is about the realisation of two stories. It’s about more than creating a singular strong visual, but how the collection has come from both sides of my process. The way approach a collection is a combination of haphazard experiments, putting an emphasis on using my imagination, but also how I can control it. For instance I enjoy simplicity just as much as I enjoy maximalist, these elements mainly stay separate, but through colour and technique, they start to merge, such as the how every seam is sewn together. I believe a collection is a complete reflection of you, as there is never one side, it was important for me to capture and exhaust both. Being idle, (as in lazy) was the catalyst for how I would approach this collection. Hid away in the British countryside last summer, I embraced this idyllic way of living. I also realised I wasn’t the only one too; I came to realise that most people enjoyed doing nothing, or doing things for leisure. Watching daytime TV and lying in bed were great sources of inspiration. Comparing this mood now to more historical times led me the painters of pre-Raphaelite brotherhood. They often captured this state of wonder and tranquillity in their paintings of everyday people in their natural surrounding. This is also visible in the photographs of ‘The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Enigmatic Meaning of their Dreams’ by Allessandra Sanguinetti. With this mood, I began creating images, by mark making with chalks, paints and playing around with fabric. I continued with this approach all the way through, deciding colours as I went along. This sporadic way of working is reflected in the garments. Some capture this more literally than others; by the way the empty shell of a garment has been decorated with rolls of organza and prints. In others, this is more subtle, and found only in the stitching using a Victorian embroidery stitch. JESSICA NG A/W 2013 So Wrong It’s Right. The A/W 2013 collection stems around the concept of twisted innocence and juxtaposes ideas of purity with the corrupted. It combines the familiarity of personal experiences with a touch of the forbidden that aims to evoke a mood of strange endearment. Many of the artists explored within the themes of this collection are individuals who had been previously condemned by society and even criminally prosecuted for their work because they violated the sacred ideology of childhood innocence. (e.g. Sally Mann, Irina Ionesco) However, we now live in a society that is more tolerant than it has ever been, in some respects, and is willing to entertain ideas of eroticism and childhood coexisting. At the very least, there is a curiosity to explore and investigate subjects within a new, modern context where one might reassess subject matter formerly regarded as offensive and find respect for each quality the image offers. Contrasting the serious subject matter of controversial photography with Jessica’s childhood memories of Garbage Pail Kids as well as saturated Egon Schiele paintings were integral in injecting fun and color to the collection. Vibrant colors and clashes of textures throughout were used to communicate a sense of unease, beauty and playfulness all at once. The primary fabric used in the collection is a syrupy sweet, pink Harris Tweed – ultra feminine with its color, but countered with oversized, masculine silhouettes and a rough, heavy texture. The weighty garments are combined with lighter pieces like sandwashed silk shirts and velvet embroidered leggings to contrast textures and add movement to the pieces. The exploration of draping and tailoring with unconventional finishes was also key in creating the collection. Many of the garments feature stitchless darts and disappearing details like pockets and collars using needlepunch techniques with inspiration taken from unfinished paintings where the lines of the body are finished by the eye rather than actual marks. // PRESS Highly Commended Finalist in i-D Magazine/All Walks Diversity Now Competition (Clothing Design Category) http://i-donline.com/2013/04/diversity-now-the-finalist-cut/ http://blogs.arts.ac.uk/fashion/2013/06/05/students-scoop-prizes-at-diversity-now-2013/ Pigeons and Peacocks Illustration Feature http://www.pigeonsandpeacocks.com/editorial/jessica-ng-fashion-illustration/ LCF BA 2013 ANNUAL SHOWCASE http://issuu.com/london_college_of_fashion/docs/sdt-annual-2013 // WORK EXPERIENCE Band of Outsiders Design Intern (January 2012 – March 2012) Preen by Thornton Bregazzi Production and Design Studio Assistant (November 2010 – April 2011) // CREDITS DESIGN DENIM supported by ISKO™ Photography: James Rees Creative Direction: Rob Phillips Beauty Pace Chen Model Harriet at Select (1 - 2) BRITISH FASHION COUNCIL SHOOT Photography: Justino Esteves Creative Direction: Rob Phillips Model: Rebeca Marcos @ Models 1 Beauty: Pace Chen Nail Art: Lauren Michelle Pires (3 - 16) JESSICA NG A/W 2013 Photography: Alexandra Leese Model: Charli Howard @ Union Beauty: Chloe Han (*) i-D Magazine/All Walks Diversity NOW!
