2. Lookbook: Cross - Bar Satchel

BA (Hons) Cordwainers Accessories: Product Design & Development

Jessica Hearnshaw is an Accessories Designer based in London who's focus is around the design and craftsmanship of high quality conceptual leather goods. This collection’s focus is on accessories that have a integral relationship to what they contain. That are as fascinating to unwrap, as a gift is to open. Inspired specifically by traditional japanese packaging which has a strong minimalist aesthetic. A key notion of japanese packaging is that the gift and the act of unwrapping the gift, is just as important as what is inside. This art form would wrap a given object in whatever materials lay at hand. The outcome was often not only practical for storage and transporting the object but also produced a simple beautiful shape free of all excess and extravagance ----------------------------------------------- Credits: Images 1 - 5: Art Director: Benjamin Thapa, Photographer: Giulia Zucchetti, Model: Max @ Profile, Stylist: Irene Manicone, Makeup: Nichola Mai Images 6 - 9: Art Direction & Photographer: Benjamin Thapa Image 10 - 11: Photography: Anthony John Sayer Creative Director: Rob Phillips Beauty: Pace Chen Model: Rosemary Banks

Copyright © 2013 Devika Rattu ______________________________FLORAL DECAY Devika Rattu is a Surface Textiles Designer specialising in Print through traditional screen-printing and digital printed textiles. Her work explores printing and dyeing techniques with a modern twist by distorting and warping her artwork to create something distinctly unique. Her Spring/Summer 2014 collection Floral Decay is a high-end womenswear collection, which stemmed from the idea that man-made cites are created by destroying natural landscapes. Then when man no longer has use for the structures, the invasion of nature and the decaying process takes over and creates something delicately beautiful, fragile and unique. Looking at the visual record of physical decay shown in the work of Marchand and Meffre’s ‘Ruins of Detroit’ the photography explores abandonment by people, society and the presence of past lives within the derelict buildings. The collection draws on traditional print processes of Devore and dyeing used in a contemporary way with unconventional fabrics. The techniques have been extensively refined to showcase a highly creative development of textiles. Both techniques required long periods of time to explore, test and perfect, creating a distinctive collection. The dyeing and printing process has been a fundamental aspect to the collection. The importance of colour is paramount to Devika’s vision through her collection, especially the transformation of her artwork into printed textiles. An integral part to the development of Devika’s work is her floral illustrations. Specialising in organic watercolours paintings rich in colour, distorted and warped to form graphic structural shapes, which won her a prize for Chelsea Flower Show competition and an annual membership to the Royal Horticultural Society. Then developed for the illustration competition Nina De Yorke and used to develop an instillation for the 2013 LCF Press Exhibition. ______________________________EDUCATION London College of Fashion Ba (Hons) Fashion Design Technology_Surface Textiles 2010-2013 London College of Fashion Foundation Diploma in Art and Design 2009-2010 ______________________________WORK EXPERIENCE Anna Sui -New York- Pattern Making Intern July-September 2012 Giles -London- Sample Room Intern January-May 2012 Freelance Print Designer_ Mirjam Roudén -London- Design Intern April-May 2011 ______________________________ ACHIEVEMENTS Runner up_Chelsea Flower show t-shirt competition Annual membership for The Royal Horticultural Society Collaborative photo shoot, producing 2 dresses and a headpiece for Fauna & Flora

BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery

Born in Israel, Liron Kliger is a London based jewellery designer who graduated a BA (HON) in Jewellery Fashion Design at the London College of Fashion. Liron developed a passion for jewellery design whilst completing a foundation in fashion design course at West London College, Liron developed a love for raw materials and desire to create unique pieces encompassing the form and essence of the material used. The primary influence on Liron’s work (apart from the raw materials) evolved from years spent living and travelling in cosmopolitan cities including Barcelona, Paris, Milan and Tel Aviv. Liron was exposed cultural idiosyncrasies which in turn influenced the way in which she combines / uses materials and their subsequent adaptation to her needs. Liron’s latest project developed from a fascination with snakeskin and infatuation with catwalk pieces; motivating her to create her own interpretation via snakeskin inspired bangles. Liron’s previous catwalk projects include a large feathered neck piece and oversized dice jewellery. In the foundation year of her BA Liron was awarded third place in the UK in a competition run by the Metro newspaper for her creation of a jewellery body suit utilising recycled materials. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

'We Raphaelites' SS14 Edward Curtis’s Spring Summer 2014 Collection is about the collision of simplicity and maximalism. Comparing today’s modern mood with historical painters of the pre-Raphaelite brotherhood was a key dialogue for this collection. The state of wonder and tranquillity in pre-Raphaelite paintings of everyday people in seen in ‘The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Enigmatic Meaning of their Dreams’ by Allessandra Sanguinetti were compared, contrasted and collaged with the pop art works of Lichtenstein, Koon’s and Bruce Ingram. Via a process of haphazard experiments, using illustration, manufacture, finish, drape work and fittings as creative catalysts, Edward refined his unusual finds into a contemporary summer collection of 12 intense looks. Using a free hand expressive illustration style, Edward closely studied his random, varying sized drawing lines forms, textures and finishes to explore and use as design tools. The juxtaposition of clean graphic paints with rough mark making and powdery organic chalk smudges, guided Edwards pattern cutting, choices of colours, fabrics and prints. Unsatisfied with the regularity of most manufacturing details, Edward incorporated different techniques such as faggoting for seams, rolls of fabric for exaggerated shapes and decoration, duel net sandwiched rouleau’s that become new fastenings at the neck and wrist either hanging like marshmallow meters or tied into chic, sculptured bows. The silhouettes are dedicated to a free, micro sexy hemline and mix between a softer, looser hourglass form and a wide, curved, neck to wrist silhouette. Short midi tops fall lower to the front and sensually, provocatively curve the contour lines revealing the lower back arch. Sashes and ties languidly grow from garments either draping to the floor or fetishticly and organically moulding the body. The illustration mark makings are turned into prints, that appear to be just strewn, arbitrary over garments and even panties. Panties under dresses that you are intentionally given glimpses of. This is a collection of personal passion and artistic freedom. Through the naivety of play and euphoria, the tranquillity of posture and grace of gesture and raw expressive lines comes a masterfully controlled, elegant and thoroughly modern collection. These are eye-catching fashion statements, bold, confident and sexy pieces to play in, designed to create striking silhouettes when posing! A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO Juliane, L.A. Flaunting is yours! ABOUT The design approach developed for my body of work included two major questions; First if it was possible for me to make a contribution to the traditional canon of men’s shoe design. And secondly if my products are able to draw a new aesthetic code relevant for contemporary fashion. The collection works with and against the categorized elements of traditional shoe design, manipulating the generic expectations of its audience through subtile but decisive alterations. The L.A. theme and research as a thematic foundation underlines the collection and is meant to give cohesion on a narrative base, in which Los Angeles functions as a desirous destination not an actual place. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear

JAMAICAN ME CRAZY'Don't want Jackie, Give dem Paul instead, Dem don't want di sweetness between di leg..' Banton, B . (1992) Boom Bye Bye. Jamacia: Shang Muzick Brogan Toyn’s S/S 2013  graduate collection, ‘Jamaican me Crazy’  contends against frequent homophobic dancehall lyrics, by creating ‘expressive’ street wear for the modern man.  Through the amalgamation of research, aggressive 90’s hip hop trends are combined with the promiscuousness of Jamaica’s dancehall Queens, consequently redefining common contemporary constructions of the male identity in contemporary fashion. Collaborating with textile designer Zoe Sterling, ‘Jamaican Me Crazy’ ignores familiar connotations of masculinity in order to create an unconventional sportswear S/S13 Menswear collection. Juxtaposing common culture with subcultures, Brogan creates clothes for men willing to push image boundaries beyond the norm of the day, instead hyper exaggerating them. Representation of the black gay male in contemporary fashion is relatively absent as patriarchal values still influence the majority. Although, commonly it has been long thought that it is a homosexual customer that consumes outlandish modern menswear trends. Something which has been allegedly underground , emerging in the 80s and 90's and documented in films such as Livingstones 'Paris is burning' is now becoming a trend. Queens. Proportions within ‘Jamaican me Crazy’ remain unbalanced due to the amalgamation of inspirations. Influenced prominently by the provocative outfits of the Jamaican dancehall Queens, the collection rearranges masculine shapes in order to reverse gender restraints. Referencing dancehall contemporaries in hip hop,  Brogan adopts classic street style proportions to conflict with risque silhouettes, crop tops vs. basketball shorts. Focusing heavily on the context of colour within menswear and in order to balance an overtly sexualized concept, a juxtaposition of colour has been enforce. Enhanced pastels compliment the risqué silhouettes as they distract from erotic undertones and encourage the energy of the dancehall. Unconventionally luxurious, Brogan does not use classic performance fabrics. Instead, collaborating with textile designer Zoe Sterling, sequins adorn nearly every look and increase the collections flamboyance. Rainbow furs creep along the edges of garments while tight crotches are emphasized by printed, metallic lurex fabrics. As ‘Jamaican me Crazy’ adopts outlandish street style and contradicts obvious urban aesthetics, sequined crop tops only emphasize this further. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Olivia Howick is a Surface Textiles for Fashion graduate specializing in embroidery and embellishment, with a passion for transforming unexpected materials into luxurious fashion embellishment. Her graduate collection: ‘Medicate Me’ is a high-end ready to wear womenswear collection, that demonstrates the collision of contemporary and traditional approaches to medicine, through the exploration of Native American culture and advances in scientific medicine. The collection draws upon a textile tradition, and transforms it to demonstrate a clinical aesthetic which will appeal to the contemporary consumer. Exploration of new materials, in particular the use of PVC, has allowed for highly creative and innovative textile development through embroidery processes, that reflect on traditional craftsmanship, whilst evoking a clinical and medicinal aesthetic. Transforming materials is becoming an increasingly important aspect of Olivia’s work. This collection saw PVC hose pipes cut, dyed and stitched to become PVC beadwork. Combining this with satin stitch work and screen printed fabric, Olivia likes to work with both traditional aspects to textile design as well more unconventional material. Integral to Olivia’s practice is her illustration and drawing. Specializing in highly detailed hand rendered work, her illustration style is graphic, yet rich in textile inspired texture and detail. Olivia was selected as a finalist for the Nina de Yorke fashion illustration prize, and has also been shortlisted to compete to illustrate for the Maria Luisa website. Olivia was selected for the LCF Press Exhibition 2013 and exhibited a sculptural textile piece which demonstrated the concepts surrounding her Final Collection, as well as showcasing new textile development. BA (Hons) Cordwainers Accessories: Product Design & Development

A curious and diligent designer who takes inspiration from many sources including life experiences, anatomy, the fantastical and the unknown. The aim of lindseytait design is to use fashion and its influence as a channel to raise awareness of social issues and to make a difference. The brand is dedicated to having a social responsibility as well as producing superior quality crafted pieces that are one of a kind and make a statement. Striving for perfection, attention to detail is key as well as finding new and exciting ways to create, while incorporating traditional artisan techniques to produce beautifully finished products. Looking to modern technology to influence design and to push the boundaries of ‘fashion’, lindseytait design hopes to bring accessory design to new levels of what can be achieved. The graduate collection ‘skin deep’ is influenced by the issue of self-harm: the stigma associated with it and the restriction of the body to prevent harming. It was key that the pieces should be beautiful as well as provocative in order to raise awareness, yet still be products that can be worn with attraction rather than the ‘ugliness’ of self-harm. Using an intricate cherry-blossom pattern laser etched into the lining (which sits close against the skin) is significant as the cherry-blossom flower represents feminine strength and sexuality. This soft and beautiful leather etched lining is juxtaposed against the strong VegTan exterior that provides a shield-like mould around various parts of the body. Each piece is fully functional, despite being conceptual rather than commercial. Born in a small town in Northern Ireland, Lindsey showed a strong passion for art and craft from a young age, which soon flourished into a love for fashion design. While completing her Foundation Diploma, Lindsey’s keen attention to detail and interest in accessories became apparent, leading to her relocation to London to attend London College of Fashion. Lindsey intends to remain in London to continue growing as a designer and to also expand her knowledge of fashion design and construction into apparel – although her main focus still remains on creating innovative and provocative fashion accessories. 'The Pigman'(2013): MA13 Performance during LFW

MA Fashion Artefact

----------------------------------------------- A continued journey to inquire about what constitutes Fashion in the name of creativity. My practice aims to emphasize the challenge on how fashion (with & without context) is perceived with a narrow perspective, and also to celebrate its art. Furthermore, my creative expedition aims to formulate a system of platform that inherits Freud’s psychoanalysis. And the archival system embodies a re-interpreted theory in my own understanding as principal elements. To achieve what I envisage, I have created Artefacts that represent the key elements to my internal inquiries. And the Artefacts were incorporated as physical stimuli in a performance set to juxtapose my queries about the unconscious effect of objects, and its effect in drawing practice. The performance is hosted by the ‘Pigman’- a representative figure during my previous degree’s final project “What is Fashion Illustration?” - and the set employs both ego & alter ego in human form, disguised in pig masks. First set of works is from MA Fashion Artefact (2013), ‘The Pigman’ Second set of works are from BA(Hons) Fashion Illustration (2010), ‘What is Fashion Illustration?’ ------------------------------------------------------ Looking for project commission & collaboration. https://www.facebook.com/noronoropigman www.noronoro.co.uk info@noronoro.co.uk ---------------------------------------------------------------- The Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/university-arts-london-partner-zone/fresh-prints MPDclick Issue.21: http://www.mpdclick.com/mudpie/magazines/issue28/issue_28.pdf Fashion 156.com: http://archive.fashion156.com/previous-blog/Doyeon+Noro+Kim/1653/ Lanciatrendvisions: http://www.lanciatrendvisions.com/en/article/noro-kim-br-illustrates-art LCF Alumni profile page: http://www.fashion.arts.ac.uk/student-stories/noro-kim-illustration/ Creative Boys Club: http://www.creativeboysclub.com/fashion-illustrations-by-doyeon-noro-kim --------------------------------------------------------- Photography by Maryjane Neumeister & Daniel Jon

Knit Sample

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Within this project i looked through the past to uncover the brutal history of the slave trade and how specifically the female slaves were treated, the lives they lead and the task they had to deal with on a daily basis. Raising consciousness throughout a material culture on the physical and mental state that female slaves were left in is the overall perspective for the theme. Using natural yarns Hemp, Cotton, Wool and linen also neutral colours to go with the palette of the research. I am a strong minded character who likes to use an assortment of colours and shapes when creating knit.
