BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development

Rebecca Morter is a london based fashion Designer born in Auckland, New Zealand, expecting to graduate with Honours in BA Fashion Design and Development this coming July 2013. Rebecca’s New Zealand Heritage filters into her work, founded upon New Zealand’s unusual natural resources combined with a contemporary design approach. In 2011, Rebecca won the contract to design the restaurant uniforms for the london 2012 Olympic games, runner-up to designing a collection of dresses for Whistles in 2011 and most recently, shortlisted for the Deutsche Bank awards 2013. In 2012, Rebecca spent eight months working within the Ready-to-wear design team at Alexander Wang, as well as other design work experience with Simone Rocha, Paul Costelloe, and John Lewis’s new range; Weekend, where Rebecca designed the first inhouse jewellery collection. My work celebrates the female form, and I find myself continuously playing with the idea of revealing, but at the same time concealing the body. Leathers will always play a leading role due to my new zealand heritage, and somewhat due to my recent work experience with the design team at Alexander wang. An amalgamation between the lightest of fabrics with heavier, grainy, dense leathers. becmorter@gmail.com WWW.REBECCAMORTER.COM

>>OLIVIA HOWICK This collection is for sale as one off garments-prices on request. Bags and Shoes can be made to order. http://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/LillyHowick?ref=seller_info Olivia Howick is a Surface Textiles for Fashion graduate specializing in embroidery and embellishment, with a passion for transforming unexpected materials into luxurious fashion embellishment. Her graduate collection: ‘Medicate Me’ is a high-end ready to wear womenswear collection, that demonstrates the collision of contemporary and traditional approaches to medicine, through the exploration of Native American culture and advances in scientific medicine. The collection draws upon a textile tradition, and transforms it to demonstrate a clinical aesthetic which will appeal to the contemporary consumer. Exploration of new materials, in particular the use of PVC, has allowed for highly creative and innovative textile development through embroidery processes, that reflect on traditional craftsmanship, whilst evoking a clinical and medicinal aesthetic. Transforming materials is becoming an increasingly important aspect of Olivia’s work. This collection saw PVC hose pipes cut, dyed and stitched to become PVC beadwork. Combining this with satin stitch work and screen printed fabric, Olivia likes to work with both traditional aspects to textile design as well more unconventional material. Integral to Olivia’s practice is her illustration and drawing. Specializing in highly detailed hand rendered work, her illustration style is graphic, yet rich in textile inspired texture and detail. Olivia was selected as a finalist for the Nina de Yorke fashion illustration prize, and has also been shortlisted to compete to illustrate for the Maria Luisa website. Olivia was selected for the LCF Press Exhibition 2013 and exhibited a sculptural textile piece which demonstrated the concepts surrounding her Final Collection, as well as showcasing new textile development. FdA Fashion Design Technology (Surface Textiles)

A Fashion 'Surface Textiles' student accomplished at print, beading, laser cutting and embroidery with a particular focus on print techniques and fabric research. A flair for combining different styles of art presentation with fashion and fabric designs. The projects were carried out drawing from eclectic sources of inspiration and ideas. The print design and the embroidery classes underpinned the design process, and contributed a different understanding of design ideas and colour usage. I aspire to work in a surface textiles design company with its' attention on print, embroidery and fabrics developments. The first collection is a Spring/ Summer Collection for River Island for young people aged 25-30, based on a Japanese cherry blossom and magnolia theme. Hubert De Givenchy provided inspiration for the beading. The Second collection is Vintage Project for Autumn Based on print and Sewing Machine using real flowers and decaying them with wax to create patterns. and shapes. Inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe and Nature. the third collection is Cuban Music in connection to Kandinsky and Pucci Work this is based more in sketchbook work its 1st year start of term project. Ideally focused on the movement of dancing and shapes samples. The fourth project is based Group based on Print design ideas, my chosen theme is Cells . As a surface textiles student my job was to create the pattern for the Pattern Cutters with my print designs ideas to go on their clothing designs. Skills: Technical: excellent drawing skills - hand & technical drawing, strong hand sewing and machine embroidery technique (domestic Bernina & Irish Machine). Creative: artistic and bold sense for colour in fabrics, accompanied by good selection of suitable fabric textures. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

'We Raphaelites' SS14 Edward Curtis’s Spring Summer 2014 Collection is about the collision of simplicity and maximalism. Comparing today’s modern mood with historical painters of the pre-Raphaelite brotherhood was a key dialogue for this collection. The state of wonder and tranquillity in pre-Raphaelite paintings of everyday people in seen in ‘The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Enigmatic Meaning of their Dreams’ by Allessandra Sanguinetti were compared, contrasted and collaged with the pop art works of Lichtenstein, Koon’s and Bruce Ingram. Via a process of haphazard experiments, using illustration, manufacture, finish, drape work and fittings as creative catalysts, Edward refined his unusual finds into a contemporary summer collection of 12 intense looks. Using a free hand expressive illustration style, Edward closely studied his random, varying sized drawing lines forms, textures and finishes to explore and use as design tools. The juxtaposition of clean graphic paints with rough mark making and powdery organic chalk smudges, guided Edwards pattern cutting, choices of colours, fabrics and prints. Unsatisfied with the regularity of most manufacturing details, Edward incorporated different techniques such as faggoting for seams, rolls of fabric for exaggerated shapes and decoration, duel net sandwiched rouleau’s that become new fastenings at the neck and wrist either hanging like marshmallow meters or tied into chic, sculptured bows. The silhouettes are dedicated to a free, micro sexy hemline and mix between a softer, looser hourglass form and a wide, curved, neck to wrist silhouette. Short midi tops fall lower to the front and sensually, provocatively curve the contour lines revealing the lower back arch. Sashes and ties languidly grow from garments either draping to the floor or fetishticly and organically moulding the body. The illustration mark makings are turned into prints, that appear to be just strewn, arbitrary over garments and even panties. Panties under dresses that you are intentionally given glimpses of. This is a collection of personal passion and artistic freedom. Through the naivety of play and euphoria, the tranquillity of posture and grace of gesture and raw expressive lines comes a masterfully controlled, elegant and thoroughly modern collection. These are eye-catching fashion statements, bold, confident and sexy pieces to play in, designed to create striking silhouettes when posing! copyright © 2013 devika rattu ______________________________FLORAL DECAY Devika Rattu is a Surface Textiles Designer specialising in Print through traditional screen-printing and digital printed textiles. Her work explores printing and dyeing techniques with a modern twist by distorting and warping her artwork to create something distinctly unique. Her Spring/Summer 2014 collection Floral Decay is a high-end womenswear collection, which stemmed from the idea that man-made cites are created by destroying natural landscapes. Then when man no longer has use for the structures, the invasion of nature and the decaying process takes over and creates something delicately beautiful, fragile and unique. Looking at the visual record of physical decay shown in the work of Marchand and Meffre’s ‘Ruins of Detroit’ the photography explores abandonment by people, society and the presence of past lives within the derelict buildings. The collection draws on traditional print processes of Devore and dyeing used in a contemporary way with unconventional fabrics. The techniques have been extensively refined to showcase a highly creative development of textiles. Both techniques required long periods of time to explore, test and perfect, creating a distinctive collection. The dyeing and printing process has been a fundamental aspect to the collection. The importance of colour is paramount to Devika’s vision through her collection, especially the transformation of her artwork into printed textiles. An integral part to the development of Devika’s work is her floral illustrations. Specialising in organic watercolour paintings rich in colour, distorted and warped to form graphic structural shapes, which won her a prize for Chelsea Flower Show competition and an annual membership to the Royal Horticultural Society. Then developed for the illustration competition Nina De Yorke and used to create an instillation for the 2013 LCF Press Exhibition. ______________________________EDUCATION London College of Fashion Ba (Hons) Fashion Design Technology_Surface Textiles 2010-2013 London College of Fashion Foundation Diploma in Art and Design 2009-2010 ______________________________WORK EXPERIENCE Anna Sui -New York- Pattern Making Intern July-September 2012 Giles -London- Sample Room Intern January-May 2012 Freelance Print Designer_ Mirjam Roudén -London- Design Intern April-May 2011 ______________________________ ACHIEVEMENTS Runner up_Chelsea Flower show t-shirt competition Annual membership for The Royal Horticultural Society Collaborative photo shoot, producing 2 dresses and a headpiece for Fauna & Flora
