AW13 Nurse Jacket

FdA Fashion Design Technology (Designer Pattern Cutter)

Tomoko Onimaru is attending London College of Fashion, FdA Fashion Design Technology, Design Pattern Cutter, Year 2. Born in Japan in 1988, she completed her BA Space Production Design, Fashion Design Course in Kyoto University of Art and Design in 2011. During FdA 1st year at LCF, she studied Surface Textile in Central Saint Martins, Short course, Textile Workshop. Tomoko Onimaru is a Womenswear Designer good at clean cutting, over box shaped silhouette and combing different texture of fabrics. Her signatures of design are elegant, clean, cool and functional detail. As well as she is central to create mood of elegance and cleanness for independent women, she puts importance on the detail function especially in term of the inside pocket so that people's life can be more comfortable and active without having bag. Also it is enable to protect your important stuffs inside of the garment. That's because she thinks that fashion should not restrict human body in daily life and during a travel. For the AW13 capsule collection named 'Clean Freak', she took inspiration from the nurse costume in 1960. She applied high neck collar, double layered collar, square shaped armhole and complicated belt line into her collection from the distinguishing old nurse costume using the combination of leather, silk and wool fabric. In her graduation work in Japan, she designed down jackets combined with biker jackets to create a new type of winter outwear which is light weight, easy to move, functional, and sophisticated. Now, she is working on SS14 inspired from the Balinese historical costume and lace garments that is wore in their daily life. This collection's concept is 'Luxury as comfortable'. She is trying to design luxury garments which is easy to wear in very hot environment such as resort place using cotton, lace and leather. MA Fashion Design Technology (Womenswear)

"Visual Illusion Through Textile" S/S 2013 - Emily Seulki Uhm is a Korean designer who recently completed her Masters from London College of Fashion in fashion design and technology, womenswear. She was born and raised in Seoul, Korea. After graduated high school in korea, she moved to united state and received a Bachelor of Fine Art degree with emphasis in Fashion design, womenswear at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago(SAIC). "My ma collection aims to define the hourglass curves of women’s body only by visual elements such as color, shape and textile through needle punch machine techinique. When we see the effect of the whole event that is unnecessarily comprised in the sum of parts. This concept of the Gestalt psychology adopted to the collection to challenge the first impression of any complex visuals from people. To focus on only textile based illusion, all the silhouettes are not waist defined and to clean the canvas(body) all the darts are eliminated as almost none. Just like an quote “Expression can be described as the primary content of vision” by Rudolf Arnheim, I wanted to my collection to be a reminder of the women’s size issue by just as an visual expression, and present an effortless slender look from the collection to women without any artificial effort." - The collection, 'Visual Illusion through Textile' presented in a catwalk show, 'Poemtry' on 2.Feb.2012 at Victoria and Albert museum in London. KYPHOSIS

MA Fashion Artefact

Annelie Gross D E F E C T S Growing up in a family of orthopedic technicians and prostheses constructors, I was raised in a spirit to assist human bodies, that were not blessed by nature with a perfectly functioning body. This background left an essential impact on me and fostered my knowledge and interest in unusual (body) shapes, special materials and in my method of operation. Whereas the unnatural, but required poses in dance appear attractive, the unnatural positions of a body caused by illness or deformity carry a feeling of uncomfort. This intersection between a rather sensual movement and something so similar, that gives you the very opposite feeling, made me choose the body positions, that my artefacts are created around. They are mix between elegance and outlandishness. For my MA project, I created a collection of 8 Artefacts, which still have an orthopedic background, but they explore further freedoms beyond the pieces’ functionality. The Artefacts distort and restrict the body and by that cause the very opposite of what is meant to be healthy. A phenomena, which is often seen in fashion. BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery

Maria is a London based fashion jewellery designer, who graduated The London College of Fashion (2013) with a BA in Fashion Jewellery. Originally Maria took a foundation course at Central St Martin's in Art and Design, where she intended to embark on a career in Women's wear. However after some mentoring and self realization, Maria discovered that her true passion and talents were in jewellery design. During her time spent at LCF Maria developed her own style of design based on organic life and shapes taken from nature, combined with a mystical element of life forms from outer space. This unique combination led to a creative final project which she is very proud to present. Through experimentation Maria learned to use digital technology such as rapid prototyping, which enabled her to create the pieces that she had envisaged. Maria's graduate collection was inspired by nature and a curiosity of what lies beneath in the ocean together with the same curiosity for what exists beyond planet Earth. The final pieces are based on a mythical sea creature which was made with black lacquered plastic and Swarovski crystals. email: mariasokolyanskaya@gmail.com
