BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

Oksana Anilionyte I would like to thank Saga Furs for a wonderful sponsorship. Collection is based on idea of a soft control. The collection is an investigation into inter-relation of minimalism and modern women. I found my inspiration in Michelangelo Antonioni films L’Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), Eclipse (1962) and Il deserto rosso (1964). His films concentrate on how the modern world influence people and their feelings. Personal feelings, doubts, moods are substance of the films. The works and processes of Robert Morris, Tony Cragg and Daniel Arsham sculptures and abstract painting of Dale Frank served as the initial inspiration for the silhouette, colour, texture and details of the collection. The aim was to mix different techniques and inspirations to reach new and unexpected levels. I embraced the complexities and simplicities by different techniques to reinvent a version of femininity. Robert Morris felt sculptures led to create new ways of using seams to express the fluidity of line. The collection is a lot about the lines that are so pure, so clear, that they convey simplicity in their perfection. The purity is combined with texture that comes from tufting embroidery and soft fur to create a new level of feelings that garments create when touched. A dialogue between time and timelessness runs through the progression of the minimalist aesthetic which is felt in fluidity of seam lines. The collection incorporates a range of luxury fabrics (cashmere, wool, silk, fur, leather) to examine the balance between textures, silhouette and a purity of line. Sophisticated Primitive Flat_Wear

MA Fashion Footwear

Product innovation though process innovation, utilizing methods of tectonic architecture and challenging existing fabrication parameters to develop new methodological tools used to create modular transitional footwear that guides the consumer into a new era of flat pack footwear. The display is presented both as packaged flat packs and the footwear's tectonic transformation onto the lasts. This is done intentionally to represent their inventive precision as well as visually attract the viewer/consumer to the operational methodology and relationship form completely flat to a three dimensionally functional object. There is a adaptation here, a complete product that could potentially alter behavior through the transformation of simple systems. This project was a collaboration with company partnerships_ Sophisticated Primitive Sophisticated Primitive is a consulting design and research studio assisting designers in laying out a foundation for technology based innovative automotive/footwear development. SOPR assisted in the auditing and developing of the 2-D patterns as well as the conversion of these patters into 3-D objects. In addition, they assisted in the digital transformation of the objects onto the 3-D scanned lasts and ensured functionality, feasibility as well as the proper fit of the footwear. Norafin Flax and Daimer Filz felt shoes

MA Fashion Footwear

Based in London with a background in a combination of product, furniture design and fashion accessories. The focus of the MA was... The Objectification of the Shoe The project started with the examination of how 3D printing could alter footwear architecture and identify new design constructions. Observations were made that whilst the potential of this new technology offers many benefits the materiality was limited. There seems to be a lack of natural materials used. This lead to the critical theory 3D print is the right process but maybe using the wrong materials? So practical research was made into the use of non wovens as a potential material arrangement which could be developed by specialists to drive the materials used in 3D print. A collection of varied natural non woven materials were selected and applied to a methodology in a masters educational context. By concentrating the fibres and adding binders, the properties and characteristics could change, producing both soft and hard material over one continuous surface. Innovative materials used in the product and furniture industries were "borrowed" and applied to fashion footwear raising further challenges as to what materials are acceptable, in a trend lead fashion context. The design form was the element unifying the collection. As the project progressed it became evident, synthetic biology will converge with 3D print to offer solutions to these issue. A designer’s understanding of trends and emotional qualities of materials make them key to drive the new technologies in fashion and science. Colour Fade Jumper

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

I graduated London College of Fashion with a First Class Honours Degree in FDT: Surface Textiles specialising in knitwear . I am interested in combining unusual materials and pushing techniques to their extremes to create innovative experimental textiles. I like exploring new ways of constructing garments to create new ways they can be worn. I often take inspiration from the traditional garments of different cultures, especially that of eastern Asian. The aesthetic of my work takes a lot of influence from Japanese fashion as well as sportswear and street fashion. My work takes a lot of inspiration from the process and the techniques used to create the textiles. Exploring textile techniques is an important part of the research in my work and I enjoy working in 3D. I use this approach when designing garments and stand work is integral to the development of silhouettes in my work. I always aim to let the textiles inform the silhouette as I like the unpredictable nature of working this way can create great results.
