Loss of Innocence

FdA Fashion Styling and Photography

My Photographic style is dark, moody, abstract, mysterious and evocative. I like to shoot using natural light where I can experiment and manipulate these sources in new unusual and exciting ways, coming in turn with this I create an awkward gaze wether it be for the viewer or the subject of the image. I mostly seek out inspiration from 16th century Caravaggio paintings. I am always looking to expand my portfolio and collaborate. Contact me via email: joshcsylvester94@gmail.com

MA Fashion Artefact

Kat Marks is a creative leader in fashion enterprise and design. Her creativity motivates all aspects of her process - research, design and craft. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

copyright © 2013 Huma Hayirli ----------------"Drag Me Out"---------------- I am a surface textile for fashion designer specialising in print with an interest in digital print. I have a passion for colour and I am extremely fascinated in creating textiles through combining print techniques with digital prints. ‘Drag me out’ is a luxury ready to wear spring/summer 2014 womenswear collection. The collection explores the story behind Drag queens and looks in-depth at the transformation from male to female. Trying to reflect this idea through contradictory fabrics, texture, colours and through the use of print. The inspiration originates from researching into the props that drag queens use and it is the wigs, eyelashes, make up and clothing that make them look totally different from their original selves. The use of colour was a major way of expressing my research and reflecting the quirkiness, colourful, exciting and bold personality of drag queens within this collection. --------------EDUCATION--------------- University of the Arts, London College of Fashion BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles (2010-2013) University of the Arts, London College of Fashion Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (2009-2010) -------------INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE--------------- Marks and Spencer Regional Office Turkey June 2012- August 2012 Design Intern/ Fabric Technician Marks and Spencer Regional Office Turkey January 2012- February 2012 Design Intern/ Fabric Technician Tower Garments May 2011- July 2011 Production Assistant White Gallery 24th May 2011 Production Assistant Sarmite Ostanevica 5th May 2011 Design Assistant Stilettos April 2010- July 2010 Studio Intern -------------SKILLS------------- Textile Skills Screen Printing Flock Foil Heat Press Printing Discharge Acid Pigment Printing Sublimation Printing Digital Printing Dyeing Irish Machines Tanaka Hand embroidery and embellishment Fashion Skills: Industrial/Domestic Machines Mannequin Work Basic Knowledge Pattern Cutting Drawings Skills (Hand rendered) Technical Drawings IT Skills: PC and Mac literate Adobe Photoshop (Basic) Adobe In-Design (Basic) Languages: Fluent English and Turkish

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

>>OLIVIA HOWICK Olivia Howick is a Surface Textiles for Fashion graduate specializing in embroidery and embellishment, with a passion for transforming unexpected materials into luxurious fashion embellishment. Her graduate collection: ‘Medicate Me’ is a high-end ready to wear womenswear collection, that demonstrates the collision of contemporary and traditional approaches to medicine, through the exploration of Native American culture and advances in scientific medicine. The collection draws upon a textile tradition, and transforms it to demonstrate a clinical aesthetic which will appeal to the contemporary consumer. Exploration of new materials, in particular the use of PVC, has allowed for highly creative and innovative textile development through embroidery processes, that reflect on traditional craftsmanship, whilst evoking a clinical and medicinal aesthetic. Transforming materials is becoming an increasingly important aspect of Olivia’s work. This collection saw PVC hose pipes cut, dyed and stitched to become PVC beadwork. Combining this with satin stitch work and screen printed fabric, Olivia likes to work with both traditional aspects to textile design as well more unconventional material. Integral to Olivia’s practice is her illustration and drawing. Specializing in highly detailed hand rendered work, her illustration style is graphic, yet rich in textile inspired texture and detail. Olivia was selected as a finalist for the Nina de Yorke fashion illustration prize, and has also been shortlisted to compete to illustrate for the Maria Luisa website. Olivia was selected for the LCF Press Exhibition 2013 and exhibited a sculptural textile piece which demonstrated the concepts surrounding her Final Collection, as well as showcasing new textile development. MA Fashion Footwear

My MA Final collection is inspired by Ancient Greek Civilization and, at the same time, its construction is taken from ancient Greek footwear methodologies. My primary research includes ancient documents, historical references, sculptures, murals and a few other sources. Trying to 'translate' extinct techniques from the soldiers' flat shoes to contemporary footwear manufacture and high heel shoes was a high-standard motivation for me, which achieved through research, experiments and innovative changes at the basic traditional footwear methodologies / techniques. The collection title ''UpSide Down'' defines , literally and also metaphoric, the irregularity of the designing / closing / making process . My studio development probably could be lead to wearable shoes and different approaches at contemporary footwear methodologies. Additionally, a key element of the collection development, was the Colors, with combinations potentially affecting our mood in a positive way -as it was also stated at my dissertation survey that has been responded by more than 550 women .. Regarding the wearable ranges, my designs are colorful and unusual shoes that could potentially lead to a 'happier' fashion world and style which point towards to externalization of each one's diversity. LCF Press shoot: Mortal Fascination: Oversized Jumper

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

The Spring/Summer 2014 season sees the launch of textile designer, Natasha Searls-Punter. Born and educated on the boarders of London and Surrey, she takes an experimental slant on Traditional embroidery techniques to produce innovative textile outcomes. Working with the intension to take the ugly and make it beautiful, she approaches large and difficult subjects such as injury and disease as inspiration for her designs. Being inspired by the natural forms, for the natural form allows the fabrics created to interact with the wearer on multiple levels. This resulted in the success of Natasha’s graduate collection which explores the damage to the victims of hunting though the lens of World War 1. Inspired by the work of the pioneering surgeon Dr Gillies, facial injuries and reconstructive surgical procedures provide distressing yet fascinating imagery which translates into delicate ink work, resulting in a high end ready to wear womenswear collection. Fusing refined beading techniques with raw and torn embellishments, this collection has elegant feel whilst demonstrating the gravitas of the subject. Combining traditional techniques such as Cornley Moss stitching and Tambour bead work with unusual materials such as latex gives the collection a fresh feel. The fascination with destruction of natural forms continues with Tudors vs. 70’s Glam rock: 'Pox me up' which sees the exploration of skin disease as a desirable attribute, inspired by the Tudors and 70’s Glam Rock. Looking to the 70’s as inspiration for the colour palette, like that of a glammed up bruise. The Tudors provides the majority of the visual inspiration, studying small pox, skin ulcers and wounds in particular. Natasha expresses this through surface manipulation in combination with metalwork and traditional embroidery stitching. Again looking to a delicate subject matter, ‘Mortal Fascination’ explores aspects of early 20th century western culture that centers on death, namely trophy hunting and Victorian mourning traditions. Illustration features very heavily in this collection where Natasha has been able to develop her ‘grown out’ technique with the animal heads which dominate the embroidery. By translating these illustrations from flat drawings to stitch and fabric manipulation, she creates unusual juxtapositions of texture and shade. Using white as the canvas to demonstrate these textures the contrast between the delicate, damaged nature of the embroidery and the casual, sporty feel of the garments. Working in collaboration with womenswear designer, Roxanne Leger, these two create a well defined, accessible, high end, womenswear collection for Autumn/Winter 2014 to be shown as part of LCF’s Press Show 2013. This collaboration follows the successful execution of the Flora and Fauna project, as seen in the LCF Annual 2013. Backstage Lisbon Fashion Week

BA (Hons) Fashion: Design Technology (Designer Pattern Cutter)

LISBON FASHION WEEK 'BERGIE SELTZER' AW 2014/015 ‘No man is an island, Yet every individual is an iceberg. Broken away from the mother glacier. Floating, floating on its own. Each one unusual. Uniquely shaped.’ (http://keelymyles.wordpress.com, 2013) “Bergie Seltzer” explores iceberg and ice platforms structures, combined with the anatomical form of its natural inhabitants, the penguins. Behind its outlines, shapes are modern and functional. Along with an inspiration from the 80s decade in men’s attire and the modern sportswear, this collection highlights a fun spirit allied to a current silhouette, creating a modern balance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twenty four year old Nair Xavier is from Lisbon. At fourteen, she initiates the professional course of Industrial Fashion at Escola Profissional Magestil. For two seasons she interns with the portuguese brand White-Tent and in 2008 moves to London where she starts her degree in Fashion Design Technology at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London. LOOK TWO

BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development

Going to graduate from London College of Fashion in 2014 summer. Used to live in Savannah, United States and London, United Kingdom. Was born in Taiwan, study Statistics in the first university in Taiwan. Before graduated, found the interest in Design, especially in Fashion Design. In order to pursued the dream, arrived in the United States in 2007 Summer with one suitcase and the braveness. After one year training in English, finally started to learn the skills for designing. In 2008, the winter vacation in Taiwan, went to the induction of the University of the Arts London. Luckily, had an interview with the professor from London College of Fashion. And that was the starting point of the new life in London. Love colours, floral patterns, geometric shape, symmetric design. Love to exploring things from the daily life. Love to record the impressing scenery through the camera and keep them in files.
For this 2014 Spring/Summer collection. I love to exploring the cultures, from the east to the west. I combine Chinese Art - Lian Pu, pleats and curve lines together. Trying to create the harmony with the mixture through draping skills. By using the embroidery with the wool yarn, I create the bulky, chunky and fluffy texture patterns. This make the pattern look more 3 dimensional. And I love it. In this collection, the main fabric in Linen. I love using nature fabric. It is sustainable, it is gently to the skin and it is friendly to the earth. Website please visit: http://www.peiichuang.co.uk/ (The website will keep updating)

Chiccano #2

MA Fashion Footwear

The Interchangeable In the Master’s Project the main concept was to produce interchangeable uppers that would give more than one look to the product. This would give the consumer the choice to wear that one pair in multiple ways. The parts on the uppers are attached together with Chicago screws that enable the footwear to transfer from a basic court shoe to a thigh-high boot and anything in between. Meccano® played a big part in influencing the designs and allowing the products to transform. Instead of metal parts they were laser cut out of Perspex and molded to a correct shape. The usage of Perspex also allowed the introduction of wider range of colours and would make the overall wight of the product lighter than metal. The leather material used in the project was reindeer leather sourced from Lapland, Northern Finland, a by-product of the meat industry, finalized in a tannery in Kruunupyy, Western Finland. The reindeer leather was chosen because of its softness and durability, the combination of which produces an effect of luxuriousness, placing the product higher in the market place. The heels for the Chiccano #1 & #2 and Chicago #1 & #2 were printed in a collaboration with a company called Maker3D, based in Helsinki, Finland. The heel designs were created using Rhinoceros, the files were sent to the company where they were printed and then sent back to London for finalization. It was the designer’s personal decision to produce the products in a size 3 (UK). Her lifelong problem of finding fashionable shoes in her own size (UK 2.5, EUR 35) has caused her many headaches both as a teenager and as an adult. Shortlisted for Jimmy Choo Award 2013. Yr3-toiling

BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring

Originally from Hong Kong, Chan has been living in Italy, London and Sweden for 5 years, learning the art of crafts. Her fascination with anatomy has led her to the BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring course at London College of Fashion in 2011. While studying, she had a variety of work experience in both London (Aitor Throup and Thom Sweeney) and Sweden (Bespoke Tailoring House Bauer & Co.). In her final year collection, she has chosen the Skagen painters and the way they depicted the unique Danish landscape in the 1890s as inspiration. Improvising with the skills that she gained from previous years, the collection is created with the utmost attention to pattern construction and fabrication. Each outfit is ‘bespoke’ for a specific person, from measurements to fittings, making to finishing. Linen has been chosen as a predominant fabric because of its casual summer quality resembling the paintings of the Skagen artists. Furthermore, with her interest in sustainable designs, Chan also integrated natural dying in the collection. The sources of dyestuffs were grown locally in Hackney, London, where she lives and studies. The collection is not only a personal expression of her passion with tailoring, but also a collaboration with the final year fine art students in Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design. The garments would be used as costumes of a public performance in May 2014. Chan intends to pursue a career as a cutter after her graduation. She would like to continue working with the essence and timelessness of Bespoke Tailoring.
