Piece of fabric made from threads, then heat press printed

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology (Surface Textiles)

I am a BA Surface Textiles third year student, I came from Hong Kong. I have fished my Foundation Degree in Surface Textiles with a Merit plus last year. I had lot of joy being here, and have been so hard working, I always get stressed so easily, but stress sometimes just make me work better, more creative and work faster. I have experienced few areas of textiles, for instance, prints, dye, machines embroideries, CAD embroidery, etc. I have also used hand embroidery for my last project. These experiences enable me to be creative and present the beauty of the textiles samples onto fashion garments designs.

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear

Rikke Bonde ; Menswear designer STATEMENT: I am fascinated by art and I consider fashion a challenging part of it. Like a detective, I keep investigating different aspects of life and get inspired by them. For me it is all about pushing the boundaries of traditional menswear by experimenting with technique and texture to create an innovative outcome. My final collection Hyper-Natural is strongly influenced by a journey to California. It explores the contrasting aspects of reality and unreality. Silhouettes and textures in the collection are informed by the craftsmanship of Native American costume and weaving, incorporating innovative textiles ( using special machinery as Tanaka) and hyper-real colour palettes - inspired by Jeff Koons and Umberto Eco - in the form of feathers, metallic yarns and foil leather. A sense of irony plays into my thought process leading to kitsch elements in the collection. Overall, I want my outcome to be something ordinary presented in an unexpected way, not in an attempt to be eccentric but to be surprisingly relevant. 'La Bellezza' Collection

BA (Hons) Cordwainers Accessories: Product Design & Development

‘La Bellezza’ SS 2013 Collection is inspired by the glamour of Portofino with its scenic views of coloured houses: the turquoise sea and rocking fishing boats lying in the harbour appear as if time has stood still. Celebrating the Italian classic style and their effortless elegance exemplified by the style in which women on the Isle of Capri wore silk scarves so effortlessly in the 1950s. The collection combines the inspiration from 1950’s by looking at vintage bag constructions, reinventing them with a modern twist. Incorporating vintage scarves and using exotic skins, such as python and lizard throughout the whole collection. Pushing the design further with jewel-like studs as fittings, covered in brightly coloured exotic skins. My approach to accessories design starts with a love for classic and vintage bag design, taking elements to create a more modern design representing the perfect balance in craftsmanship, innovative and attention to detail, to create a high quality product.

SHIN 2012/13

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

I believe that fashion is part of art. Thus, I believe that people who work with fashion are artists. Until today, I have always been drawing and making clothes for my entire life. I think that passion for his work, and inspiration also, new idea are the most important things for an artist. So I found a very special technical idea. It was using wool. About my concept, my mind was captured by such charming and colorful corals. Corals take a long time undersea to be created. They were very splendid, but did not look bauble at all. I added some more unique sea creatures into my concept. The aesthetic views of the Rococo period―which I had been always fond of―, and the clothing that appear in the paintings of Antoine Watteau inspired me to do my work. During my life as a student learning about fashion, I have always wanted to make clothes that could make people happy and joyful when they looked or wore them, and that wish remained the same when I first started to do this work. Antoine Watteau and the people of Rococo aimed a truly joyful life, so I totally liked the concept I had chosen. My last year's collection they were not simply a piece of fabric. They embraced my mind that I could barely explain in any kinds of language. From the beginning, I was very concerned about how I could make clothes that could really express everything about myself. I wanted to make clothes, which everyone who knew me would recognize that they were mine, just at a single glance. I am a very complicated person that it's even impossible for myself to explain in my own words. So I contemplated to choose the concept that could show all those complicated matters that build myself, including my taste and character. I realized that the works I finished when before my work I only used my eyes and hands. However, during this collection I finished clothes using my mind too. I hoped to deeply move the people who see my clothes, and please them with joy also they can see fresh idea and colour combinations too. *ACHIEVEMENT* • WGSN Global Fashion Awards 2011 Most Creative Student Collection • The best fashion graduates of 2011 in Vogue UK • London College of Fashion Press Show finalist • Adidas UK 2012 olympic volunteer uniform competition finalist • Korea Hongik University fine art competition finalist • Korea chosen-ilbo newspaper fine art competition finalist *EXHIBITION* •BFC Emerging Talent Award Fashion Exhibition 2012 www.yeashinkim.com e mail : yeiyei1044@hotmail.com http://www.facebook.com/pages/SHIN/189574997807682

My inspiration is a culmination of opposites combining feminine with masculine and structures with delicate handcrafted embellishments. The foremost aim is to create individuality for the wearer with the vision that each piece is an heirloom that can be passed down through generations. Its aimed at the modern woman – a female who is strong, confident and unafraid to embrace her masculine side while stepping out beautifully sexy and alluring.

Tidy Up The Commotion

BA (Hons) Fashion: Design Technology (Footwear Design)

The work reflects conceptual meanings behind a series of neatly organised objects in various visual manifestos. The main inspiration derives from the works of Ursus Werhli. Through mixing ordinary scattered elements into a minimal and controlled arrangement, there is a new perception of the original. It is a double take of imagery which becomes a personal documentation, similar creating a time capsule. Pieces are split apart or flatten out, only to construct an altered form. This is taking an existing object, transforming into a personal idea to the object. Decorative stitch details enhances the outlook of basic footwear silhouettes in the design. However, such details may have to be toned down to balance the shapes from the sole units. MDF takes form of the experimental stages of constructing the sole unit. The sections are made of series of laser cut shapes through the basic outline construction from Rhino. These panels that joins together creates the heel and other sole units. Acrylic is the final selection material wise as it is lightweight, fragile when it is in pieces but durable once they join up. ABOUT: YEA:JI SUNG is a contemporary footwear designer brand that creates conceptual and architectural, yet accessible footwear for women. YEA :JI SUNG is not aiming for a totally commercial look but still being simple. Mainly focused on shapes which then allow the design to look more architectural and contemporary. COLLECTION: For designer's debut Autumn/Winter 2012-3 collection is presented with 9 styles. The collection is inspired by art movement from the 20th century focusing on the both Art Deco and Cubism. Geometric shapes and forms that have an architectural side has mainly inspired in designs PRESS: "Once again the simple triangle consumes a collection as Yea Ji Sung looked at shapes from the art deco period and cubism to inspire what she admits is a simultaneously commercial and directional collection. My Twitter page doesn't lie and as I do like a chunky heel, they don't get any chunkier than these carved wooden ones with triangular cut-outs and outlines." - Style Bubbles (http://www.stylebubble.co.uk/style_bubble/2012/07/shoes-n-things.html) Contacts ; yeajee.sung@gmail.com

"The sky is blue for the same reason, but the blue at the horizon, the blue of land that seems to be dissolving into the sky, is a deeper, dreamier, melancholy blue, the blue at the farthest reaches of the places where you see for miles, the blue of distance. Blue is the color of longing for the distances you never arrive in, for the blue world." - Rebecca Solnit Travellers of this new century, migrate by option and desire to capture the changes of the world. The denim, this large portion of the project, connotes a democratic tradition and the appeal of the globalized world. Emphasized by with the use of ancient Japanese technique of Sakiori, the reuse of old material. Denim trousers were recycled and hand woven into pieces; the mass production transformed into hand made. The collection is inspired by the smooth curves and linear elements of 60’s furniture, smooth shiny wooden panels that sit next to upholstered bright hues in coarse Meltons. Concrete poured buildings with rounded edges, curved openings & material contrasts. The collection plays with proportion & texture contrasts. Opposing textures sit alongside each other, a shiny patent leather tops a fluffy angora, a juxtaposition that emphasises both textures. Heritage fabrics are central to the design concept. She aims to create wearable fashion that is relevant to women today. Colour plays a key part in all her work, taking prominence in both her garments and her editorial work. Teatum Jones Illustration Competition Winning entry

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

Fashion designer and illustrator More coming soon My vision for my A/W ’12-13 ‘Exotic dislocation’ collection is inspired by my multilayered cultural background, art and contemporary influences, merging into individual and cross-culturally designed clothing. References of Asia, the Exotic and oriental as well as Soviet Constructivism conjure up my fascination with opulence and bohemian cultures. Everything exotic and foreign gives a platform for imagination and exploration, and today we are particularly enriched by the world’s cultural exchange through migration and globalization. In this collection I’ve combined travel, escapism and an array of eastern influences with my personal aesthetic and designer codes. My aim was to balance modern, grown-up edginess with feminine silhouettes to represent long-lasting wardrobe essentials. The collection projects luxury ready to wear with a range of fabrics such as French silk chiffons, Mongolian sheep fur, waxed cotton, cashmere wool and reptile brocade, enhanced with dip-dyed tassel trimmings and chains. Colors run from spicy oranges to aquatic turquoises, balanced with dark plum and light creams. My muse is a traveler, a bohemian ‘gypset’, a woman who examines herself cross-culturally. I'm very much a 2D to 3D designer and portraying this woman in my 2D work is an essential part of my design process. My explorations are strongly illustrative and realistic with a fusion of techniques: pencil drawing, collage and acrylic paint. It’s about juxtaposition, combinations of stylistic references, eras and blending ideas. My work reflects a perception of beauty which comes from opposition and disparities. My designer philosophy is one of contrasts and eclectic mixes, with a modern youthful take on upscale dressing. It combines tradition with layers of modernity – as a young designer I feel it is important to look at the future and forecast it on a personal level rather than only repeating the past or conforming to the present. I aim to create a hybrid-aesthetic that appeals to a multitude of women from different cultural backgrounds, who wear culture as a coat. ‘When you put on the clothes of another culture, it changes how you stand, how you feel, the gestures you make.” (Pinar Yolacan in McDonnel, 2007).
