BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery

francescasmith@live.co.uk www.francescasmith.co.uk Francesca Smith's work explores the capabilities and juxtaposition of combining hard materials with soft textiles within a fashion jewellery context. She explores a variety of materials from woods to fabrics, to metals to plastics. Exploring the possibilities of applying alternative materials to a fashion jewellery context. Francesca Smith's BA graduate collection:"I have always been fascinated by modern social attitudes towards remembering the dead and how people deal with the loss of a loved one. By looking at the extravagant rituals and customs of the Victorian era and the funerary practices of its people, my intent was to produce a collection, which confronts people with the idea of positive remembrance. By exploring the designs of Victorian jewellery and cemetery art, I sort to recreate classic designs using modern technologies. This contrast reflects the concept of current attitudes towards death compared to that of the Victorians. Using 3D design software and the process of rapid prototyping, I created nylon components embodying elements of Victorian mourning design. I chose to combine these elements with human hair and fabric to create a material juxtaposition, which reflects my design style of using hard materials with soft textiles." “The phenomenon of certain objects becoming so firmly associated with an individual that they are understood as literal extensions of that individuals being” (Belk, 1988: 140) The extension of the “generation Y”: A hybrid ready-to-wear autumn/winter collection looking into the interaction between the “generation Y” and their belongings, which reciprocally shape each other in today’s transformed world. An analysis of the “generation Y” is made in order to further understand how they relate to their possessions. This detailed examination lead the research and the exploration of different themes such as Maximalism and Pop Art; a great focus is made on collaging elements from various sources, reinventing the past with a new freedom and disregarding rules by manipulating and transforming in order to create a distinctive and eclectic outcome. The collection celebrates a world rich in texture, materials, colours, and shapes (in terms of print). The perception of fashion becomes a festival for the senses. MA Fashion Photography

Race, culture and identity are themes at the forefront of Alex’s photography. Specialising in fashion portraiture, he carefully examines identity through these themes, infusing his work with defining and thought provoking qualities. Through his technique Alex gracefully flutters between surrealism, and the more conventional avenue of portraiture, establishing his distinct style. Having spent his spent his childhood in the Far East, Alex grew up being intrigued by veiled beauty, and to a greater degree exploring historical identity, which is a common arrangement within his practice. He currently lives and works in London. Alex Bland: www.alexbland.com alex@alexbland.com http://uk.linkedin.com/in/visidual

Geo Deco Collection For the 'Geo Deco Collection' I was inspired by light. There's a great energy as the sun shines in the day and when lights glow in the dark. I'm fascinated by light, and as it moves how it changes shapes, reflects and refracts. As the sun shines through coloured glass, its a delight as the hues of colours flood in its moving path. The sun mixes with water and oils to create spectrums of colour and It makes us feel happy, alive and awake... I use layers of different coloured light conducting perspex, mixed with mirrors, brass and in some pieces, LEDs. As the Jewellery moves, light catches the layers of material absorbing the lights energy, enhancing the colours as they conduct and glow brightly catching the eye. I work hard with the materials to get a great finish, to give it a polished, shiny, glassy effect and top it with brass to enrich and make it shine golden. The jewellery collection are individual pieces of art... They are structured and made to capture and entertain its audience. I like the pieces to have extra dimensions. The Jewellery is new and innovative, yet people connect as they see and find familiarities and memories within. pikkalili@live.co.uk GALLERIES MOCO LOCO Galleries http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2012/10/15/gallery-beautiful-objects-exhibition-at-the-aram-gallery.php THE ARAM GALLERY http://www.thearamgallery.org/next/ XHIBIT 2011 http://www.boidus.co.uk/?p=2755 DESIGN CATWALK http://www.designcatwalk.com/lili-colley-enlighted-jewellery/ SEE/SAW/SEEN http://www.seesawseen.co.uk/ DeTnK http://www.detnk.com/node/12050 DESIGN WEEK http://www.designweek.co.uk/whats-on/demystifying-beautiful-objects/3035438.article http://mocoloco.com/galleries/gallery/beautiful-objects-exhibition-at-the-aram-gallery/ PRESS DRAPERSonline http://www.drapersonline.com/blogs/unzipped/lcfs-college-shop-not-a-pencil-sharpener-in-sight/5041799.article Londonist http://londonist.com/2012/10/today-london-college-of-fashion-shop-opens.php GLAMUK http://glam.co.uk/2012/09/its-back-to-college-time/ COMPANY Magazine http://www.company.co.uk/fashion/news/london-college-fashion-pop-up-shop LDN Fashion http://www.ldnfashion.com/london-fashion-news/london-college-of-fashions-pop-up-college-shop/ Timeout Magazine WGSN http://wgsn.tumblr.com/post/30987031794 Elle UK.com http://m.elleuk.com/fashion/shopping-blog/the-lcf-college-shop-returns Viora Magazine http://www.vioromagazine.it/photogallery/ Dew Magazine http://www.dewmagazine.com/issuu/06newworld.html http://elegiac-circus.tumblr.com/post/31019347447/lili-colley http://pinterest.com/thedefiant/magazine-volume-1-5-future-bioculture-aw12-ss13/ - Style Bubble http://www.stylebubble.co.uk/style_bubble/2012/07/shoes-n-things.html · Tatler.com Catwalk review with emphasis on VIP and Celebs http://www.tatler.com/bystander/events/2012/june/london-college-of-fashion-graduate-show#/7516/image/1 - Vogue.co.uk http://www.vogue.co.uk/news/2012/06/29/london-college-of-fashion-ba-show - Evening Standard http://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/fashion/all-the-trimmings-london-fashion-graduates-prove-they-have-a-bright-future-7898848.html?origin=internalSearch - Fashion156.com http://www.fashion156.com/collections/london-college-of-fashion-ba-graduate-show-2012/ · Style Bubble Susie Lau’s influential fashion blog– Catwalk highlights: http://www.stylebubble.co.uk/style_bubble/2012/07/hackney-house-antics.html · Catwalk Queen Catwalk show review: http://www.catwalkqueen.tv/2012/07/london_college_6.html · Dash Magazine online Catwalk show review http://www.fashiondash.net/?p=3226 · Adorn Girl Fashion Blog: http://adorngirl.com/london-college-of-fashion-ba-graduate-exhibition-2012/ Exhibition review http://adorngirl.com/robert-wun-fashion-designer/ spotlight on Robert Wun http://adorngirl.com/london-college-of-fashion-ba-graduate-catwalk-2012/ Catwalk show review http://adorngirl.com/london-college-of-fashion-ba-2012-catwalk-backstage/ Backstage images · Luxsure French luxury magazine: http://www.luxsure.fr/2012/07/01/london-college-of-fashion-graduate-show-2012/ · Fashion Bite (Fashion blog) Catwalk show review: http://fashionbite.co.uk/2012/07/04/london-college-of-fashion-runway-show-class-of-2012/#more-11721 · Better Never Than Late (blog) Image Gallery of Backstage at Catwalk Show: http://bntl.co.uk/2012/07/03/backstage-lcf-press-show/ · Fashion Insight (Trade publication) Catwalk review http://fashioninsightfeatures.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/london-college-of-fashion-ba-season.html · EStyler Magazine Image gallery of all designers: http://estylermagazine.com/interviews · The Upcoming (fashion and news blog) Catwalk show review: http://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2012/07/02/london-college-of-fashion-ba-and-fda-show/ · Now Fashion Catwalk show image gallery: http://nowfashion.com/28-06-2012-london-college-of-fashion-2012-part-1-live-event-event-2256.html

BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery

Maria is a London based fashion jewellery designer, who graduated The London College of Fashion (2013) with a BA in Fashion Jewellery. Originally Maria took a foundation course at Central St Martin's in Art and Design, where she intended to embark on a career in Women's wear. However after some mentoring and self realization, Maria discovered that her true passion and talents were in jewellery design. During her time spent at LCF Maria developed her own style of design based on organic life and shapes taken from nature, combined with a mystical element of life forms from outer space. This unique combination led to a creative final project which she is very proud to present. Through experimentation Maria learned to use digital technology such as rapid prototyping, which enabled her to create the pieces that she had envisaged. Maria's graduate collection was inspired by nature and a curiosity of what lies beneath in the ocean together with the same curiosity for what exists beyond planet Earth. The final pieces are based on a mythical sea creature which was made with black lacquered plastic and Swarovski crystals. email: mariasokolyanskaya@gmail.com

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Copyright © Stephanie Ghoussain 2012 I am a surface textiles designer specialising in digital printed textiles, computer aided design and embroidery techniques. I use textiles, specifically print as a storytelling tool; colour, shape and texture punctuate my collections in playful combinations. Drawing is key to my design process, along with 3D experimentation, collage and redrawing from photographic manipulations. My aesthetic is free and fluid with sobering elements of geometry from traditional Middle Eastern textiles. My recent work is inspired by Edward Said's concept of "Orientalism" - the portrayal of stereotypical Middle Eastern identities in the western media and the representation of ethnic identities through an orientalism "lens". The prints for this collection portray a landscape of ethnic bodies, as lines they are displaced and dis-located. Facial and bodily shapes like Dali's figures, bleed out from their original contours to merge into each other and melt into the earth to create a distorted and exaggerated, foreign landscape - this has become the "middle eastern" ethnoscape, perceived historically and contemporaneously in art and literature. The aestheticisation of the concept has come from my process of research and exploration of the theme of distorted ethnic identities. The faces of ethnically diverse women in London have been photographed through concave ad convex lenses to create exaggerated proportions and distortions of their physical identities. These photos have been further distorted using web cams and digital software. I have drawn from these images in a style that is free and fluid, black and white to begin with and then re-coloured, again offering another distorted perspective of reality. The silhouettes for my collection consider what a world post-orientalism would be like. Oversized in proportion and layered with printed fabric the wearer is covered in story upon story, reinterpreted, and re-portrayed from various angles of the orientalism lens. The body’s own curves and proportions are obscured; individual history is replaced by a story of colonial history and images of ideological colonisation. Post apocalyptic feelings of isolation and anxiety or fear of the ethnic other come into play with the mood. As people who perceive the ethnic other through an orientalism lens that convolutes identity with stereotyped visions that have been democratised through orientalist art and mass media, we isolate ourselves through de-familiarity with the rest of the world and its diverse beauty.
