BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear

Ema Ranger is a Menswear Designer with a strong focus on utility and sportswear. Designs are a modern take on nineties street wear trends and are designed to be worn by people of “the street”. Garments are designed to be unforgettable, impactful and interesting whilst also being well made, wearable and luxurious. The wearer should be able to take any garment into their wardrobe and work it with all of their favorite looks. Garments are often made from unconventional materials that wouldn’t usually be found within a collection of this kind, this is to try and break the boundaries between “street wear” and high end menswear. “Xcloose” 2012/13 This collection was based on the “street “and the aim was to express the voice of someone who would otherwise be left unheard. The garments were designed for people of the “street”, rather than using them purely for inspiration, and the idea is that they would be able to style key pieces within the collection to express how they feel. Innovative materials and processes have been combined with nineties sportswear inspiration to create an updated version of the original “street” trends. Graffiti and underground music also inspired the design of this trans- seasonal sporty collection for 2012/13. FdA Cordwainers Fashion Accessory Design

The Global Commuter collection was inspired by Craig Green, a designer at London Fashion Week who, on his models, used painted abstract raw bits of headwear with black clothes. This combination of the natural and the mundane in a stylized setting led into the idea of global camouflage. Influences came also from Shaun Samson, Hussein Chalayan, Smythsons, Lanvin, Raf Simons, and Stone Island brand, particularly for their use of performance materials. Other visual research influences include the Prada nylon range (in particular, their fabrics) and Smythsons travel wallets. It is designed for Spring/Summer 2014 and is an accessory a Global Commuter might use. It would be part of the lifestyle of those who use international travel in their day-to-day existence. Its main use is a cross-body bag for lightweight daily travel. It also has a packable daypack combined with the cross-body to allow for extra space. I have gained fashion accessories design experience in London and New York. I also have a BA Hons in Product Design from Central St Martin. I would be happy to show you my full portfolio, or send you my CV. Please get in touch! Email: mail@alexmorton.co.uk Blog: www.mistermorton.com

Norafin Flax and Daimer Filz felt shoes

MA Fashion Footwear

Based in London with a background in a combination of product, furniture design and fashion accessories. The focus of the MA was... The Objectification of the Shoe The project started with the examination of how 3D printing could alter footwear architecture and identify new design constructions. Observations were made that whilst the potential of this new technology offers many benefits the materiality was limited. There seems to be a lack of natural materials used. This lead to the critical theory 3D print is the right process but maybe using the wrong materials? So practical research was made into the use of non wovens as a potential material arrangement which could be developed by specialists to drive the materials used in 3D print. A collection of varied natural non woven materials were selected and applied to a methodology in a masters educational context. By concentrating the fibres and adding binders, the properties and characteristics could change, producing both soft and hard material over one continuous surface. Innovative materials used in the product and furniture industries were "borrowed" and applied to fashion footwear raising further challenges as to what materials are acceptable, in a trend lead fashion context. The design form was the element unifying the collection. As the project progressed it became evident, synthetic biology will converge with 3D print to offer solutions to these issue. A designer’s understanding of trends and emotional qualities of materials make them key to drive the new technologies in fashion and science. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Based on the comparison between the imagined future from past and realistic present, I designed a high-end fashion collection that can react to changing of time and space to suit different occasions. It is a womenswear collection filled with 50s and 60’s essence and made of luminescent materials for Spring/Summer 2013. This collection is not about our future, it is about how our present would be in the vision of people who live in the past. Surface textiles that have new functions and decorative details provide greater potential for creative expression. After exploring a wide selection of exciting confluence of art, design, and technology, the idea of “Glow in the dark” strongly interested me to continue researching and developing.

BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery

Born in Israel, Liron Kliger is a London based jewellery designer who graduated a BA (HON) in Jewellery Fashion Design at the London College of Fashion. Liron developed a passion for jewellery design whilst completing a foundation in fashion design course at West London College, Liron developed a love for raw materials and desire to create unique pieces encompassing the form and essence of the material used. The primary influence on Liron’s work (apart from the raw materials) evolved from years spent living and travelling in cosmopolitan cities including Barcelona, Paris, Milan and Tel Aviv. Liron was exposed cultural idiosyncrasies which in turn influenced the way in which she combines / uses materials and their subsequent adaptation to her needs. Liron’s latest project developed from a fascination with snakeskin and infatuation with catwalk pieces; motivating her to create her own interpretation via snakeskin inspired bangles. Liron’s previous catwalk projects include a large feathered neck piece and oversized dice jewellery. In the foundation year of her BA Liron was awarded third place in the UK in a competition run by the Metro newspaper for her creation of a jewellery body suit utilising recycled materials. Shadow of a Bat Red

MA Digital Fashion

I am an award winning artefact designer based in East London. Last year I was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Head of the British Fashion Council, Harold Tilman to study an MA in Digital Fashion at the London College of Fashion. During my time studying my MA I started to explore using 3D printing in jewellery design. I am now passionate about using 3D printing techniques mixed with my traditional background in fashion, thus creating complex and beautiful wearable art that would be impossible to create without 3d printing or without an in depth knowledge of classic design techniques.

Teatum Jones Illustration Competition Winning entry

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

London-based fashion designer and illustrator Final BA Collection: My vision for my A/W ’12-13 ‘Exotic dislocation’ collection is inspired by my multilayered cultural background, art and contemporary influences, merging into individual and cross-culturally designed clothing. References of Asia, the Exotic and oriental as well as Soviet Constructivism conjure up my fascination with opulence and bohemian cultures. Everything exotic and foreign gives a platform for imagination and exploration, and today we are particularly enriched by the world’s cultural exchange through migration and globalization. In this collection I’ve combined travel, escapism and an array of eastern influences with my personal aesthetic and designer codes. My aim was to balance modern, grown-up edginess with feminine silhouettes to represent long-lasting wardrobe essentials. The collection projects luxury ready to wear with a range of fabrics such as French silk chiffons, Mongolian sheep fur, waxed cotton, cashmere wool and reptile brocade, enhanced with dip-dyed tassel trimmings and chains. Colors run from spicy oranges to aquatic turquoises, balanced with dark plum and light creams. My muse is a traveler, a bohemian ‘gypset’, a woman who examines herself cross-culturally. I'm very much a 2D to 3D designer and portraying this woman in my 2D work is an essential part of my design process. My explorations are strongly illustrative and realistic with a fusion of techniques: pencil drawing, collage and acrylic paint. It’s about juxtaposition, combinations of stylistic references, eras and blending ideas. My work reflects a perception of beauty which comes from opposition and disparities. My designer philosophy is one of contrasts and eclectic mixes, with a modern youthful take on upscale dressing. It combines tradition with layers of modernity – as a young designer I feel it is important to look at the future and forecast it on a personal level rather than only repeating the past or conforming to the present. I aim to create a hybrid-aesthetic that appeals to a multitude of women from different cultural backgrounds, who wear culture as a coat. ‘When you put on the clothes of another culture, it changes how you stand, how you feel, the gestures you make.” (Pinar Yolacan in McDonnel, 2007).
