Gossip Digital Magazine

MA Fashion Media Production

Melanie Dagher is a lebanese London based visual artist and graphic designer who explores the fashion world, working across different disciplines and mediums. Having grown up in Tunisia, she pursued her studies in Lebanon, and obtained a bachelor degree in Visual Art and Communication from the Académie Libanaise des Beaux Arts in Lebanon with honors. After working for two years as a freelance graphic designer and junior art director of L'Officiel Levant, Gossip Magazine and Aishti Magazine in Beirut, she now completed a Master degree in Fashion Media Production at the London College of Fashion. Her final project was an Interactive Ipad Magazine. Gossip digital is an interactive fashion magazine which has been conceptualised to bring an innovative dimension and a new take on the standard notions of the traditional magazine. Approaching the digital world within a fashion magazine which has been an existing lebanese print publication ever since it saw light, requires a thorough and deep research in terms of its audience, content and browsing. Since the magazine targets a very young and trendy audience, the primary goal of the application was to insert the maximum amount of media possible in an intelligent and subtle way, in order to obtain an avant-garde visual and reading experience based on the notions of interactivity and games. The ultimate focus is undoubtedly the importance of visuals, more than it is about the text itself. The reader is constantly in control of his own reading experience as he dicovers the magazine’s content at his own rhythm and pace. There is no grid nor fix layouts through the pages, which are generally found in print publications, therefore, the reader can freely browse through visuals and contents without feeling restricted to a certain frame.

'Fool's Gold' Famille Blondeau

MA Fashion Footwear

‘Fools Gold’ COLLECTION MOTIVATION Pere Lachaise Cemetery, Paris, France For a long while I wanted to create a collection inspired by Pere Lachaise, Paris, France. Initially, I wanted to design and dedicate each pair of footwear to a famous residence at the cemetery for example, Frederic Chopin, Eugene Delacroix, Edith Piaf, Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde etc.  However, after several visits I started to realise that I was more attracted to the abandoned and decaying graves and mausoleums.  Whilst, most of the tourist would flock to all the famous graves, I started to think more and more about the abandoned sites.  Somehow I wanted to pay homage to the forgotten people at Pere Lachaise.  The people whose graves no longer get visited by friends, family or loved ones because their lineage had now ceased at some point.  It made me think about the value we find in things. That no matter how precious or valuable we may find something, nature will eventual find a way to erase all traces of it.  This corrosive effect nature has on the grave’s materials such as the wood, lime stone or metal, most visitors to Pere Lachaise may find repellent, but I wanted to celebrate all the beauty I see in it. Each design is named and dedicated to the grave site which influenced it. ONLY A LIMITED SELECTION OF THE FULL COLLECTION IS SHOWN HERE. The collection was entirely handmade by Michael Azu using traditional footwear construction techniques. COLLECTION MATERIALS Lambskin/Copper/Brass The metals used on the heels and uppers were Brass or Copper which were then treated with an accelerated aging process. Pop-up store interior

MA Fashion Retail

The pop-up store can be seen as a manifestation of societies desire for the ever changing, the new and the novel. The pop-up store is considered a retail concept cemented in the realm of experiential retailing, aiming to excite and amaze within the world of fashion retail. The pop-up store is experiencing wide spread use from a variety of fashion retailers, however the limited literature around this temporary phenomenon primarily focuses on larger fashion players, ignoring the unique challenges presented by small to medium enterprises. Therefore, my work explores the phenomena of the pop-up store and examines why small to medium enterprises are engaging with this retail tool and how it can be used as a fashion retail concept.

Concept Store entrance - product installation

MA Fashion Retail

Fashion retail is a constant changing industry. With technology becoming such an integral part of everyday life, consumers are constantly connected through different devices and online platforms. The shopper journey is now more complex, it does not start at the high street anymore; it may start at lunch, in the bus or in bed. It can be said that that shopping is divided in two types, online and in-store, where consumers rarely enjoy the benefit of both at the same place. In this scenario, this practice based dissertation aims to integrate the best of both worlds; –the sensory and emotional experience of the offline world with the access, interaction and convenience of the online world– in one holistic shopping experience in the fashion store. Through the use of advanced technologies (digital screens and signage, RFID systems, mobile innovations, Wi-fi) and a multisensory strategy (scent, sound, sight, taste, touch) the concept seeks respond to today’s digital empowered consumers to create an unreplicable fashion shopping experience.

BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery

Born in Israel, Liron Kliger is a London based jewellery designer who graduated a BA (HON) in Jewellery Fashion Design at the London College of Fashion. Liron developed a passion for jewellery design whilst completing a foundation in fashion design course at West London College, Liron developed a love for raw materials and desire to create unique pieces encompassing the form and essence of the material used. The primary influence on Liron’s work (apart from the raw materials) evolved from years spent living and travelling in cosmopolitan cities including Barcelona, Paris, Milan and Tel Aviv. Liron was exposed cultural idiosyncrasies which in turn influenced the way in which she combines / uses materials and their subsequent adaptation to her needs. Liron’s latest project developed from a fascination with snakeskin and infatuation with catwalk pieces; motivating her to create her own interpretation via snakeskin inspired bangles. Liron’s previous catwalk projects include a large feathered neck piece and oversized dice jewellery. In the foundation year of her BA Liron was awarded third place in the UK in a competition run by the Metro newspaper for her creation of a jewellery body suit utilising recycled materials. MA Fashion Design Management

My work concentrates on the creation of customisable, self-build jackets. As a fashion designer, who moved on into a business orientated field, I understood that we need to innovate within out labels, especially within sustainable and eco-friendly brands. Thus my goal is to create PROUD TO BE DIFFERENT - an online platform that would have the potential to reduce unwilling consumption and wastage of materials.

Train trip reminiscences inspired me for the Fall 14 collection. Gardening in partnership with nature and the feeling of freedom of British landscape gardens like Kew Gardens or Queen Mary’s Gardens thrill me. Feelings of nostalgia for Russian nature hearten the idea for this prêt-à-porter collection. Women tend to favour garments uplifted by history and heritage. The collection inspired by countryside nature and European open-air culture. The mood is taken from the research into the way people were dressed during the promenades and countryside pastimes. I am keen on the elements of the garden like glass architecture and winter gardens. Sport, like hunting and shooting, riding, skating, bird- watching, motoring, are one of the routes for tailoring popularity. Leisure activities are dependent on weather conditions. That reflects the practicality of garments in leisure dress.
