Artefact 2 - RUFFLE BOLERO

MA Fashion Artefact

The aim of this project is to study how social and cultural everyday life issues can be translated within fashion context to present a fresh point of view, in this case by bringing new attention to tradition. The collection concept is current, personal and helps me evolve through an exploration of my cultural heritage. This project is a way to show there is an opportunity in a crisis for improvement. It can be expressed using one’s own cultural resources. It reflects confusion and disappointment among people especially in Greece and its youth. Youth needs to appreciate its cultural heritage and not to reject it by imitating foreign stereotypes. The economic crisis is a vital factor creating confusion but at the same time needing solutions. The new interpretations of Carnival values and symbolisms will be used as a medium to suggest solutions through the use of non conventional materials. The collection shows the transformation of a modern citizen to a Carnival daemon through 8 stages. It will present the need of the modern man to escape and go back to his roots for solutions. There is an emphasis on the cow bells sound and the movement of people in disguises. The bells are a very important element since they are used to wake up the forces of nature and disperse the evil. The accessories produced challenge and push the boundaries of fashion with the mixture of different materials and textures together. Hardware materials (brushes and pendant drill cups) are used outside their everyday life context creating decorative surfaces - optical illusions of constructed 3D textile using diverse objects. Softer materials contradict the roughness of the hardware textures creating a similar effect such as religious trimmings. Lookbook page 02, Fawn Dress

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology (Womenswear)

Agnieszka Sochacka is part of the London based designer duo Sochacka Pothin. She met Blandine Pothin four years ago while studying on a foundation course at London College of Fashion. Agnieszka is graduating from BA Fashion at LCF while Blandine is graduating from the same course at Middlesex University, both in 2013. The designers have a focus on womenswear and childrenswear and aim to interrelate the two exploring similarities as well as differences. The ethos of the brand revolves around a juxtaposition of contrasts exploring the far ends of the spectrum of a given concept or idea: mixing soft and hard, texture and shape. The duo finds inspiration in conceptual ideas such as a mood, a feeling, which they translate into a story. The dark side of fairy tales The graduate collection is inspired by fairy tales and the innocence of children, mixing that purity with the darkness within and the complexity of both the tales and the child. It is a journey into a fantasy world as well as the exploration of maturing. The obvious, innocent and feminine notions that initially come with the phrase fairy tale, are in contrast with the dark, monstrous reality depicted deeper within the tales; chiffon and jersey in asymmetrical drapes and layers, with fitted sections or garments underneath, creating a balance of delicate and wild, superficially pure, and severely rough. BA (Hons) Fashion Illustration

Louise O'Keeffe is a London based Fashion Illustrator from the Highlands of Scotland. She comes from a fine art, textiles and design background with a love for traditional hand rendered artwork. I am very interested in character and identity and try to portray a sense of personality through my work. My illustrations could be described as a beautiful mess with a moody feeling to it, as I like to mix accuracy and detail with the fluidity of watercolour and ink. I have experience illustrating for the Future Vintage Magazine and Vauxhall Fashion Scout where I sketched live at the London Fashion Week shows. I have also been collaborating with The House of Scarlet jewellery designer to develop illustrated surface patterns which will be transferred onto dresses. A collection of my work will also be exhibited in the Shoreditch Fashion Show in end of April 2013. “I am a passionate and enthusiastic illustrator whose love is for drawing. For as long as I can remember, art has always been my way of communicating my deepest feelings and emotions. Drawing for me is a therapeutic process, I am just lucky enough to pursue it as a career” I am always open to collaborations and new projects. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested. The title of this project is "Escaping reality by using creative imagination". Research began with the film Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and from there it went on to other films such as Alice in Wonderland, Science of Sleep, Wizard of Oz and more and also into thinking about the childish way of life. How everything is much more relaxed for children and how they don´t put as much boundaries on themselves, their way of thinking and on their imagination as adults do, the importance of letting the inner child out is vital and also the ability to let the imagination free and take you places. Edwardian S Bend Corset with Art Deco Print

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Realisation (Part time)

I am an explorer of life, I love researching and writing. I will explore anything, well almost anything. Fashion, film, music, art, dreams. I am interested in the connections between different mediums, what we see in Fashion History, beneath the surface, how people see themselves, how we subvert forms and why. My work as a seamstress and knitwear designer converge with my writing and composition of imagery for illustrative purposes. Presently, I am expanding a written piece about the Edwardian Period and produce a monthly newsletter and blog for a fashion house.

The White House

BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery

Geo Deco Collection For the 'Geo Deco Collection' I was inspired by light. There's a great energy as the sun shines in the day and when lights glow in the dark. I'm fascinated by light, and as it moves how it changes shapes, reflects and refracts. As the sun shines through coloured glass, its a delight as the hues of colours flood in its moving path. The sun mixes with water and oils to create spectrums of colour and It makes us feel happy, alive and awake... I use layers of different coloured light conducting perspex, mixed with mirrors, brass and in some pieces, LEDs. As the Jewellery moves, light catches the layers of material absorbing the lights energy, enhancing the colours as they conduct and glow brightly catching the eye. I work hard with the materials to get a great finish, to give it a polished, shiny, glassy effect and top it with brass to enrich and make it shine golden. The jewellery collection are individual pieces of art... They are structured and made to capture and entertain its audience. I like the pieces to have extra dimensions. The Jewellery is new and innovative, yet people connect as they see and find familiarities and memories within. pikkalili@live.co.uk GALLERIES MOCO LOCO Galleries http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2012/10/15/gallery-beautiful-objects-exhibition-at-the-aram-gallery.php THE ARAM GALLERY http://www.thearamgallery.org/next/ XHIBIT 2011 http://www.boidus.co.uk/?p=2755 DESIGN CATWALK http://www.designcatwalk.com/lili-colley-enlighted-jewellery/ SEE/SAW/SEEN http://www.seesawseen.co.uk/ DeTnK http://www.detnk.com/node/12050 DESIGN WEEK http://www.designweek.co.uk/whats-on/demystifying-beautiful-objects/3035438.article http://mocoloco.com/galleries/gallery/beautiful-objects-exhibition-at-the-aram-gallery/ PRESS DRAPERSonline http://www.drapersonline.com/blogs/unzipped/lcfs-college-shop-not-a-pencil-sharpener-in-sight/5041799.article Londonist http://londonist.com/2012/10/today-london-college-of-fashion-shop-opens.php GLAMUK http://glam.co.uk/2012/09/its-back-to-college-time/ COMPANY Magazine http://www.company.co.uk/fashion/news/london-college-fashion-pop-up-shop LDN Fashion http://www.ldnfashion.com/london-fashion-news/london-college-of-fashions-pop-up-college-shop/ Timeout Magazine WGSN http://wgsn.tumblr.com/post/30987031794 Elle UK.com http://m.elleuk.com/fashion/shopping-blog/the-lcf-college-shop-returns Viora Magazine http://www.vioromagazine.it/photogallery/ Dew Magazine http://www.dewmagazine.com/issuu/06newworld.html http://elegiac-circus.tumblr.com/post/31019347447/lili-colley http://pinterest.com/thedefiant/magazine-volume-1-5-future-bioculture-aw12-ss13/ - Style Bubble http://www.stylebubble.co.uk/style_bubble/2012/07/shoes-n-things.html · Tatler.com Catwalk review with emphasis on VIP and Celebs http://www.tatler.com/bystander/events/2012/june/london-college-of-fashion-graduate-show#/7516/image/1 - Vogue.co.uk http://www.vogue.co.uk/news/2012/06/29/london-college-of-fashion-ba-show - Evening Standard http://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/fashion/all-the-trimmings-london-fashion-graduates-prove-they-have-a-bright-future-7898848.html?origin=internalSearch - Fashion156.com http://www.fashion156.com/collections/london-college-of-fashion-ba-graduate-show-2012/ · Style Bubble Susie Lau’s influential fashion blog– Catwalk highlights: http://www.stylebubble.co.uk/style_bubble/2012/07/hackney-house-antics.html · Catwalk Queen Catwalk show review: http://www.catwalkqueen.tv/2012/07/london_college_6.html · Dash Magazine online Catwalk show review http://www.fashiondash.net/?p=3226 · Adorn Girl Fashion Blog: http://adorngirl.com/london-college-of-fashion-ba-graduate-exhibition-2012/ Exhibition review http://adorngirl.com/robert-wun-fashion-designer/ spotlight on Robert Wun http://adorngirl.com/london-college-of-fashion-ba-graduate-catwalk-2012/ Catwalk show review http://adorngirl.com/london-college-of-fashion-ba-2012-catwalk-backstage/ Backstage images · Luxsure French luxury magazine: http://www.luxsure.fr/2012/07/01/london-college-of-fashion-graduate-show-2012/ · Fashion Bite (Fashion blog) Catwalk show review: http://fashionbite.co.uk/2012/07/04/london-college-of-fashion-runway-show-class-of-2012/#more-11721 · Better Never Than Late (blog) Image Gallery of Backstage at Catwalk Show: http://bntl.co.uk/2012/07/03/backstage-lcf-press-show/ · Fashion Insight (Trade publication) Catwalk review http://fashioninsightfeatures.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/london-college-of-fashion-ba-season.html · EStyler Magazine Image gallery of all designers: http://estylermagazine.com/interviews · The Upcoming (fashion and news blog) Catwalk show review: http://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2012/07/02/london-college-of-fashion-ba-and-fda-show/ · Now Fashion Catwalk show image gallery: http://nowfashion.com/28-06-2012-london-college-of-fashion-2012-part-1-live-event-event-2256.html
