BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology (Menswear)

Designer Hera Wan completed her BA in Fashion Design and Technology Menswear at London College of Fashion in 2012 and is pursuing her MA in menswear degree in London. During her BA study, she worked at the Amsterdam based fashion house of 'Viktor & Rolf' as a menswear design assistant for three months. With a curiosity driven mind and a lifelong passion for fashion, she decided to explore the realms of aesthetics through fashion design. Hera believes that ongoing dedication and inquisitive imagination are the fundamentals of design. Eruption of colours, noise, emotions and when cultures of different kinds clash and connect is what inspires Hera to create and design. Specialized in menswear gives Hera a great opportunity to test the boundary between traditional masculinity and her eccentric perception and aesthetics of masculinity. Capturing the harmony of colour, prints, and fine details, HERA\WAN showcases the elements of distinction and unexpected blitheness throughout its designs. HERA\WAN 2012 Autumn Winter menswear collection 'Muted Adolescence' is inspired by the innocence and subtle suppression of childhood in the early 1900s. The collection featured attentively screen printed spots, muted colour digital printed argyle pattern and unconventional application of straps and ribbons. The collection is tied together and elevated by the colour combinations and childlike proportion. Contact Details: +44 (0) 754 99 56 117 HERAMATISSE@GMAIL.COM

// www.nicolabrindle.co.uk nicbrindle@hotmail.co.uk http://my.lcffirstmove.co.uk/graduates/6813 My final collection embodies my tactile and fun design ethos. I enjoy experimenting with colours and new techniques to recreate traditional patterns and textures. My designs often involve the unexpected such as Big-Ben embellishments and life-like flowers. The theme of my final collection was based on a Las Vegas wedding, so I combined research from both tacky and traditional aspects. I enjoy creating a story within my work, and adding extra dimensions to the garments through symbolism. I hope to continue developing as a designer with the same aesthetics – continuing to experiment and refine my style further.

Timeless Story Look 6, Details

FdA Fashion Design Technology (Designer Pattern Cutter)

I am a creative individual driven by the desire to excel, and a love to learn. My work reflects my ability to solve problems and address issues creatively. I am inspired by grand scales and details. By three dimentionality. As a dentist, I find that I have a unique approach to many materials and techniques. I want to always keep going forward discovering new ways in which I can incorporate these into my work. Innovation in pattern cutting is what I aspire to. Using new materials to push my limits excites me. Both these things have come to fruition while studying on the FdA Designer Pattern Cutter course. I have worked successfully in a team as well as individually. I feel confident in my ability to contribute in a working environment.

Nova, who graduated from London College of Fashion in July of 2011 won the prestigious award of Collection of the Year at her graduate press show in June of that same year. After some deliberation, she decided to join partnership with her boyfriend Jeff Archer, who is a designer she met while interning with Anna Sui. Their first project together was to show under Vauxhall Fashion Scouts Ones to Watch show at London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 this past month. After rave reviews about the new collection, Nova and Jeff knew that starting their own label was the right thing to do. Designers History Nova started her career in London back in 2006 at the Camberwell College of Art and Design, where she studied her foundation course for one year and she graduated with distinction. In 2007, Nova then enrolled at London College of Fashion studying BA Fashion Design Technology Surface Textiles. During her studies at London College of Fashion she went on to intern with Matthew Williamson and Richard Nicoll. After studying for two years, Nova took a year off due to financial constraints in 2009. During this time she flew to New York City to intern with Anna Sui. It was there where she met her boyfriend and business partner Jeff Archer. Jeff graduated from Helen Lefeaux School of Fashion Design in Vancouver, Canada. Before he met Nova in Anna Sui, he also interned with Betsey Johnson in New York City and the House of Spy in Toronto, Canada. In 2010, Nova finished her internship with Anna Sui and then went to work for K&G Fashion, which is a fashion production company in the garment district of New York City. After 5 months of working there, Nova then went back to London to finish her final year at London College of Fashion, Jeff soon followed. In 2011, with Jeffs help, Nova worked on her graduate collection titled Shangri-Ladida for which she was crowned Collection of the Year, and she also awarded First Class Honours for her degree. The Nova Chiu brand then took a step in the right direction by teaming up with Vauxhall Fashion Scout. VFS named Nova Chiu in their Ones to Watch Show during London Fashion Week in February of 2012. Achievements -Selected to show and exhibited at Vauxhall Fashion Scouts Ones to Watch Show. London Fashion Week February 2012 - Winner of the overall prize at Fashion Culture: The Polish British Fashion Show in Warsaw, Poland. February 2012 - Graduate Showcase: Vauxhall Fashion Scout (Freemasons Hall) London Fashion Week 16th Sept, 2011 - Winner of the BA Show 2011 Collection of the year at London College of Fashion, and awarded First Class Honours. June/July 2011 - Graduation Collection (Shangri-Ladida) published on 8th and 13th June 2011 in the London Evening Standard and the Independent Newspaper; as well as featured on websites such as Vogue UK, BBC News and Harpers Bazaar UK, etc. - Finalist of 2011 British Fur Trade Competition. - Finalist of 2011 Nina De New York Fashion Illustration Competition. - One of the Winners of the British Fashion Council, Colleges Council Graduate WGSN Digital Presentation Award 2011 Concept of the Collection Inspired from her award winning graduate collection Shangri-Ladida, whom she received The Collection of the Year Award at London College of Fashion last summer. The ethnic groups in the Shangri-La region of China influenced Nova. This time, Nova has join partnership with designer Jeff Archer. Jeff has given some New York flavour to the inspiration of the collection fusing a combination of neon colours with 1980's urban silhouettes. It's truly a combination of East meets West. "My graduate collection, Shangri-Ladida was very avant-garde. This time I wanted to take the same elements that made my graduate collection so special and concentrate on the use of embroidery and use more structure shapes. The garments are exciting, comfortable and fashion-forward modern." - Nova Chiu ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AW 2011 - The world looks different from you to me.

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

Throughout my final year I have learnt to hone my design eye and see more of the bigger picture. How I interact and describe fashion is in an extremely emotive and feeling manner, which I express predominantly in a visual, tactile and verbal way. I have come to understand that for me it is not about the process of design development but the research and ideas behind the collection, which interest me more. ‘When I am researching, I absorb everything intuitively like a sponge. I “drink it all in” and internalise it in the world I am creating. Subconsciously, I start to make connections, patterns and links between the inspiration information thus creating a visual language. This then filters through in my sub-conscious and what is important to me gets stored up – thus becoming a cohesive concept. This internal world utilises my inner intuition and encapsulates all the feelings, sense and emotional reactions I have experienced. Through sourcing fabrics, researching, personal photography, drawings, exhibitions, looking at photographs, and listening to music, I am ever searching to gather inspiration to formulate my concept.’ For AW 11 I wanted to create garments, which have lots of delicate layers of texture on top of each other, creating something like fur or an entirely new fabric made from fabrics that I have manipulated. I achieved this by hand dying and fraying silks and wool. I like the idea of taking something and giving it a new life or changing how it is percevied. I drew inspiration from Brassai's photographs particularly of 1930's Paris at night. Through his lens he documented the seedier side of Paris; the risque nightlife of the Parisian working classes. He portrayed his subjects of the underworld - writers, artists, pimps and prostitutes without pity or disapproval instead captured how life was lived. There is a sense of timeless nostalgia and captured life in these photos and later I also found it in the work of photographers like Johnathan Leder, Drew Jarrett and Guy Bourdin. Looking at 1920's perfume bottles and the new look for classic silhouettes as well as Matador's traditional costume for the rich embroidery and textiles. The garments became the result of drinking in all this inspiration and letting it filter through my subconscious into timeless key pieces that I hope will be treasured in the wearer's wardrobes. helen.elizabeth.spencer@gmail.com http://www.etsy.com/shop/Kyzen5

BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring

Bespoke tailoring graduate trained in both men's and women's wear. Work reflects an appreciation of quality, fit and attention to detail. The garments are all fitted and tailored to the models. The theme for the collection is the forest, as it appears depicted in folk tales and in our collective memory: mysterious, eternal, dark, romantic and inhabited by spirits. It also draws upon the epoch when the stories were recorded, the 19th century, and the contemporary context where the collection is created. Winner of the Best Tuxedo Award, a competition to reinvent the traditional tuxedo, arranged by London College of Fashion and Henry Poole & Co, March 2011. Fabric sponsored by Dormeuil. Model Lorna Nickson-Brown.

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear

Rikke Bonde ; Menswear designer STATEMENT: I am fascinated by art and I consider fashion a challenging part of it. Like a detective, I keep investigating different aspects of life and get inspired by them. For me it is all about pushing the boundaries of traditional menswear by experimenting with technique and texture to create an innovative outcome. My final collection Hyper-Natural is strongly influenced by a journey to California. It explores the contrasting aspects of reality and unreality. Silhouettes and textures in the collection are informed by the craftsmanship of Native American costume and weaving, incorporating innovative textiles ( using special machinery as Tanaka) and hyper-real colour palettes - inspired by Jeff Koons and Umberto Eco - in the form of feathers, metallic yarns and foil leather. A sense of irony plays into my thought process leading to kitsch elements in the collection. Overall, I want my outcome to be something ordinary presented in an unexpected way, not in an attempt to be eccentric but to be surprisingly relevant. P R E S S "When I saw Hiroe Haruki wearing her own shoes at the exhibition, I immediately thought of the possibilities should her shoes be taken to production stages. She hasn't just come up with a collection but a brand concept as well to create the perfect city holiday shoes. Travellers and nomads inspired Haruki to create shoes that unify techniques from various cultures. They are shoes that are meant to be well-travelled and well-worn. Using wet-molding, her soles are designed for practicality and comfort and the neon cord detailing gives the shoes the design oomph they need.
