[Look Book Images] Photography: Anai Bharucha http://anaibharucha.tumblr.com/ Beauty: Som J http://www.facebook.com/somijj Image Editor: Terrence Seah http://www.edfool.com/blog Model: Mila from Oxygen Models Management [Collection] Shanna Bent`s aw13-14 collection `INUNDATE` encompasses a minimalist tone with beautifully structured, twisted detailing. Unique pieces exuding modernity and classic shapes against a neutral palette of grey, navy and blue with a hint of colour introduced through an elaborate print. The reversible and multi-wearable aspects embrace the lifestyle of the busy modern woman, allowing her to “buy less and wear more” along with a combination of both light and heavy fabrics which permits the collection to be worn throughout all seasons in celebration of longevity and practicality. Photography of global flooding by Gideon Mendel and Robert Polidori were the root of inspiration for the collection which enthused further research into the causes of flooding and it`s after effects. Satellite images of hurricanes inspire the spiral and twisted shapes within the garments as well as the vibrant digital print made up from tangled multicolour ribbons which were off-cuts from initial toiling. These images not only inspired the garment shapes, but also their function in rejection of seasonal trends and the increase of disposable fashion resulting in waste and global pullution. Each garment is therefore designed as a separate in order to easily be worn with other garments, creating a new look each time thus minimising the need for consistent purchasing of new items. The collection consists a mixture of both reversible and multi-wearable garments, further allowing the consumer to style her outfit as she pleases, creating a new look each time. Each garment has been carefully considered and ensured to be versatile enough to appear as a different garment. The pieces are additionally stamped with signature detailing of contrast silk binded seams for longevity and hidden contrast zips as an extra feature against the predominately understated exterior. FdA Fashion Design And Marketing

Before ending up in garment design for high end market and luxury sport segment in particular, I did it the other way round – had a marketing and advertising degree, made a name in event management and brand-building, artist collaborations and PR. Keeping a critical eye on trends and capitalising on them was part of the job. True passion never goes away though; to me, fashion is the way I present myself, the way I see the world, it's vocation and work and play. Thankfully tables have turned. Today I can immerse in every chunk of fashion from fiddling with fabrics, colours, constructing garments and image, to predicting tends to brand-building to promotional concept. Fashion is the part of my personality I had a privilege to finally put together. My final collection is mixture between high end design and sportswear. I wanted to provide women comfortable clothes yet glamour. The design aims to be cutting edge, funny and provocative which reflect into the name of the collection: "Bankrupt" and the used fabrics. I picked up on the functional aspects of LYCRA and pushed these further to incorporate waterproof pockets for phones and MP3 players that take the garments beyond just fashion, giving them depth that I feel sportswear can lack. . The overall look is softened by the organza, which creates sheen and relaxed feel that any woman can feel confidently attractive wearing. Brett de Jager SS12 'Punx on Safari'

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear

Born in Zimbabwe, raised in South Africa and now a Londoner, Brett de Jager spent his formative years and early adult life surrounded by the vibrancy and wild nature of all that is African. As an accomplished dancer Brett travelled the world and worked in countries both ends of the globe including Korea and the USA. But he has always viewed Africa as his home, a sentiment reignited by an extended visit to his home country, South Africa, during the 2010 World Cup. It was during this visit that he truly reclaimed his heritage, submerging himself fully into the arts, music and culture of South Africa, discovering a greater appreciation, pride and admiration for local art, music, décor and the great melting pot of cultures the country offers. This collection, ‘Punx on Safari’, explores and combines the ethos of the 70s punk with that of an African tribal warrior. The juxtaposition of these two cultures not only highlights the obvious differences between them, it marks its own niche by drawing out the similarities. Self-expression, defiance, free spirit, individuality, robust, chaotic, untamed, intense personal creativity imparting a rawness and freshness creating a strong identity may be words befitting the anarchic and deliberately confrontational punk, but they can also aptly describe an African warrior. The greatest African influence is the vibrant colour palette, contrasting textures and draping. The designer then translated these traditional influences into a more contemporary collection, combining the spirit and attitude of the punk to, then be sent on an expedition into the cradle of humankind. This collection marries Brett’s history and present. It illustrates how cultures, ancient and modern, and spread thousands of miles apart can come together in celebrating elements of what it is to be human, of what it is to be wild, independent and free. BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery

Born in Israel, Liron Kliger is a London based jewellery designer who graduated a BA (HON) in Jewellery Fashion Design at the London College of Fashion. Liron developed a passion for jewellery design whilst completing a foundation in fashion design course at West London College, Liron developed a love for raw materials and desire to create unique pieces encompassing the form and essence of the material used. The primary influence on Liron’s work (apart from the raw materials) evolved from years spent living and travelling in cosmopolitan cities including Barcelona, Paris, Milan and Tel Aviv. Liron was exposed cultural idiosyncrasies which in turn influenced the way in which she combines / uses materials and their subsequent adaptation to her needs. Liron’s latest project developed from a fascination with snakeskin and infatuation with catwalk pieces; motivating her to create her own interpretation via snakeskin inspired bangles. Liron’s previous catwalk projects include a large feathered neck piece and oversized dice jewellery. In the foundation year of her BA Liron was awarded third place in the UK in a competition run by the Metro newspaper for her creation of a jewellery body suit utilising recycled materials. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

I graduated London College of Fashion with a First Class Honours Degree in FDT: Surface Textiles specialising in knitwear . I am interested in combining unusual materials and pushing techniques to their extremes to create innovative experimental textiles. I like exploring new ways of constructing garments to create new ways they can be worn. I often take inspiration from the traditional garments of different cultures, especially that of eastern Asian. The aesthetic of my work takes a lot of influence from Japanese fashion as well as sportswear and street fashion. My work takes a lot of inspiration from the process and the techniques used to create the textiles. Exploring textile techniques is an important part of the research in my work and I enjoy working in 3D. I use this approach when designing garments and stand work is integral to the development of silhouettes in my work. I always aim to let the textiles inform the silhouette as I like the unpredictable nature of working this way can create great results.

Empire of the Clouds is a dramatic futuristic representation of aviation achievements, throughout the past, present and future. Inspired by the true design innovation and achievement from machines of flight throughout the entirety of the concept. Focusing on model making to gain a unique perspective and develop an understanding of the overwhelming human drive, almost obsession, to achieve what we cannot do naturally, to fly. Passionate about research Buchanan has a meticulous attitude towards uncovering all elements in a concept. In this collection it enabled a distinctive perspective to a large subject, creating a concept based around model making and accessibility of a globally collective dream. Through innovative use of materials and conceptual pattern cutting, Buchanan has achieved striking shapes and confident structural lines, reflecting the impressive machines that inspired. Fascination with the utterly indescribable, near magical, machines that are so integrated, ordinary and standardised, motivated a need to highlight what a truly extraordinary achievement flight, both modern and historical actually is. The simple fact that more is known about space and our surrounding atmosphere than the depths of our own oceans, demonstrates so clearly what a shared and magnificent dream flight has, and always will be. Jessica Hearnshaw is an Accessories Designer based in London who's focus is around the design and craftsmanship of high quality conceptual leather goods. This collection’s focus is on accessories that have a integral relationship to what they contain. That are as fascinating to unwrap, as a gift is to open. Inspired specifically by traditional japanese packaging which has a strong minimalist aesthetic. A key notion of japanese packaging is that the gift and the act of unwrapping the gift, is just as important as what is inside. This art form would wrap a given object in whatever materials lay at hand. The outcome was often not only practical for storage and transporting the object but also produced a simple beautiful shape free of all excess and extravagance ----------------------------------------------- Credits: Images 1 - 5: Art Director: Benjamin Thapa, Photographer: Giulia Zucchetti, Model: Max @ Profile, Stylist: Irene Manicone, Makeup: Nichola Mai Images 6 - 9: Art Direction & Photographer: Benjamin Thapa Image 10 - 11: Photography: Anthony John Sayer Creative Director: Rob Phillips Beauty: Pace Chen Model: Rosemary Banks

I've researched sub-cultures and used elements of them in very fine detailing of my pieces, such as functioning piercing into a seam to create a piece. As a designer, I am constantly inspired by people who break free of society’s expectations to fit into a certain mould, body and appearance. I always seek to explore and develop a concept fully without restrictions like trends or pre-set ideas of what the final garments should be or shouldn’t be. This way, the full potential of an idea can be realized; sometimes mistakes made during the development of a garment can lead to unintentional great outcomes. Geo Deco Collection For the 'Geo Deco Collection' I was inspired by light. There's a great energy as the sun shines in the day and when lights glow in the dark. I'm fascinated by light, and as it moves how it changes shapes, reflects and refracts. As the sun shines through coloured glass, its a delight as the hues of colours flood in its moving path. The sun mixes with water and oils to create spectrums of colour and It makes us feel happy, alive and awake... I use layers of different coloured light conducting perspex, mixed with mirrors, brass and in some pieces, LEDs. As the Jewellery moves, light catches the layers of material absorbing the lights energy, enhancing the colours as they conduct and glow brightly catching the eye. I work hard with the materials to get a great finish, to give it a polished, shiny, glassy effect and top it with brass to enrich and make it shine golden. The jewellery collection are individual pieces of art... They are structured and made to capture and entertain its audience. I like the pieces to have extra dimensions. The Jewellery is new and innovative, yet people connect as they see and find familiarities and memories within. pikkalili@live.co.uk GALLERIES MOCO LOCO Galleries http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2012/10/15/gallery-beautiful-objects-exhibition-at-the-aram-gallery.php THE ARAM GALLERY http://www.thearamgallery.org/next/ XHIBIT 2011 http://www.boidus.co.uk/?p=2755 DESIGN CATWALK http://www.designcatwalk.com/lili-colley-enlighted-jewellery/ SEE/SAW/SEEN http://www.seesawseen.co.uk/ DeTnK http://www.detnk.com/node/12050 DESIGN WEEK http://www.designweek.co.uk/whats-on/demystifying-beautiful-objects/3035438.article http://mocoloco.com/galleries/gallery/beautiful-objects-exhibition-at-the-aram-gallery/ PRESS DRAPERSonline http://www.drapersonline.com/blogs/unzipped/lcfs-college-shop-not-a-pencil-sharpener-in-sight/5041799.article Londonist http://londonist.com/2012/10/today-london-college-of-fashion-shop-opens.php GLAMUK http://glam.co.uk/2012/09/its-back-to-college-time/ COMPANY Magazine http://www.company.co.uk/fashion/news/london-college-fashion-pop-up-shop LDN Fashion http://www.ldnfashion.com/london-fashion-news/london-college-of-fashions-pop-up-college-shop/ Timeout Magazine WGSN http://wgsn.tumblr.com/post/30987031794 Elle UK.com http://m.elleuk.com/fashion/shopping-blog/the-lcf-college-shop-returns Viora Magazine http://www.vioromagazine.it/photogallery/ Dew Magazine http://www.dewmagazine.com/issuu/06newworld.html http://elegiac-circus.tumblr.com/post/31019347447/lili-colley http://pinterest.com/thedefiant/magazine-volume-1-5-future-bioculture-aw12-ss13/ - Style Bubble http://www.stylebubble.co.uk/style_bubble/2012/07/shoes-n-things.html · Tatler.com Catwalk review with emphasis on VIP and Celebs http://www.tatler.com/bystander/events/2012/june/london-college-of-fashion-graduate-show#/7516/image/1 - Vogue.co.uk http://www.vogue.co.uk/news/2012/06/29/london-college-of-fashion-ba-show - Evening Standard http://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/fashion/all-the-trimmings-london-fashion-graduates-prove-they-have-a-bright-future-7898848.html?origin=internalSearch - Fashion156.com http://www.fashion156.com/collections/london-college-of-fashion-ba-graduate-show-2012/ · Style Bubble Susie Lau’s influential fashion blog– Catwalk highlights: http://www.stylebubble.co.uk/style_bubble/2012/07/hackney-house-antics.html · Catwalk Queen Catwalk show review: http://www.catwalkqueen.tv/2012/07/london_college_6.html · Dash Magazine online Catwalk show review http://www.fashiondash.net/?p=3226 · Adorn Girl Fashion Blog: http://adorngirl.com/london-college-of-fashion-ba-graduate-exhibition-2012/ Exhibition review http://adorngirl.com/robert-wun-fashion-designer/ spotlight on Robert Wun http://adorngirl.com/london-college-of-fashion-ba-graduate-catwalk-2012/ Catwalk show review http://adorngirl.com/london-college-of-fashion-ba-2012-catwalk-backstage/ Backstage images · Luxsure French luxury magazine: http://www.luxsure.fr/2012/07/01/london-college-of-fashion-graduate-show-2012/ · Fashion Bite (Fashion blog) Catwalk show review: http://fashionbite.co.uk/2012/07/04/london-college-of-fashion-runway-show-class-of-2012/#more-11721 · Better Never Than Late (blog) Image Gallery of Backstage at Catwalk Show: http://bntl.co.uk/2012/07/03/backstage-lcf-press-show/ · Fashion Insight (Trade publication) Catwalk review http://fashioninsightfeatures.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/london-college-of-fashion-ba-season.html · EStyler Magazine Image gallery of all designers: http://estylermagazine.com/interviews · The Upcoming (fashion and news blog) Catwalk show review: http://www.theupcoming.co.uk/2012/07/02/london-college-of-fashion-ba-and-fda-show/ · Now Fashion Catwalk show image gallery: http://nowfashion.com/28-06-2012-london-college-of-fashion-2012-part-1-live-event-event-2256.html

MA History And Culture Of Fashion

PAST AS PRESENT: THE REVIVAL OF LUXURY HERITAGE BRANDS IN THE HYPER/LIQUID WORLD Between 2006 and 2010, a series of luxury heritage brands were simultaneously revived by autonomous entities after years of idle dormancy. The trend, characterized primarily by Cacharel, Carven, Halston, The House of Worth, Irfé and Vionnet, could initially be dismissed as a mere coincidence. Upon closer inspection, however, the phenomenon is a peculiar and unprecedented development in fashion. Taking into consideration the type of brands being revived, including their history, reputation and following, plus the overall timing of their parallel resuscitation suggests something far more complicated than a slight twist of fate. To dismantle and expose the significance of this phenomenon, Past As Future: The Revival of Luxury Heritage Brands in the Hyper/Liquid World, looks beyond the boundaries of fashion to demonstrate how growing societal anxieties have influenced the industry’s overall direction. Grounded within hypermodernism and liquid modernity, Past as Future proposes the revival of luxury heritage brands is the result of society’s eroding confidence in forward-orientated progress. Plagued by perpetual anxiety, uncertainty, temporality and ‘nowism,’ the hyper/liquid world has become pervasive, casting the fashion industry and its participants into a constant state of flux where present-day gratifications are unremitting. As a result, the hyper/liquid state of fashion has forced the industry to collapse upon itself, rendering it incapable of projecting itself forward. With the future acting as a source of anxiety rather than a site of refuge, fashion has returned to its past to create its future.
