BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

I am a surface textile for fashion student specializing in print with an interest in digital print. I have a thirst for colour and extremely fascinated in creating textiles through combining print techniques with digital prints. ‘Drag me out’ is a luxury ready to wear spring/summer 2014 womenswear collection. The collection explores the story behind Drag queens and looks in-depth at the transformation from male to female. Trying to reflect this idea through contradictory fabrics, texture, colours and through the use of print. The inspiration originates from researching into the props that drag queens use and it is the wigs, eyelashes, make up and clothing that make them look totally different from their original selves. The use of colour was a major way of expressing my research and reflecting the quirkiness, colourful, exciting and bold personality of drag queens within this collection. |EDUCATION| University of the Arts, London College of Fashion BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles (2010-2013) University of the Arts, London College of Fashion Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (2009-2010) |INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE| Marks and Spencer Regional Office Turkey June 2012- August 2012 Design Intern/ Fabric Technician Marks and Spencer Regional Office Turkey January 2012- February 2012 Design Intern/ Fabric Technician Tower Garments May 2011- July 2011 Production Assistant White Gallery 24th May 2011 Production Assistant Sarmite Ostanevica 5th May 2011 Design Assistant Stilettos April 2010- July 2010 Studio Intern |SKILLS| Textile Skills Screen Printing Flock Foil Heat Press Printing Discharge Acid Pigment Printing Sublimation Printing Digital Printing Dyeing Irish Machines Tanaka Hand embroidery and embellishment Fashion Skills: Industrial/Domestic Machines Mannequin Work Basic Knowledge Pattern Cutting Drawings Skills (Hand rendered) Technical Drawings IT Skills: PC and Mac literate Adobe Photoshop Adobe In-Design (Basic) Languages: Fluent English and Turkish

BA (Hons) Cordwainers Accessories: Product Design & Development

Nina takes inspiration from personal experience and the quest to learn more. “Life is about stories; cars are produced for mass consumption and yet the same car has a different meaning to each individual. Each journey, layer of paint, flat tyre tells a story. Some cars become treasures as they age, timeless statements of class others will have been left to weather, becoming beaten up derelicts. Accessories should also tell a story, be timeless statements of one’s personal style and accompany a person over the years to become precious memories and reminders of lessons learned.” A childhood spent between south London and the southern German countryside wherever she found herself there was always the other place with it’s happy memories. Having a mixed background of German, Cuban and Italian her outlook on design has always been full of contrasts. Growing up in a family who are all makers from mechanics to seamstresses has had a big impact on her. Absorbing all these traits influenced her “it always has to be functional” way of design. This functional and practical approach also informed her decision to combine academic study with a part-time job first as product development assistant and then design assistant at Anya Hindmarch. This was an opportunity for her to put newly acquired theory to the test and into practice in the real world. The SS14 graduate collection ‘enchanted reality’ was inspired by key catalysts in her life. For her 9 muses she created a range that will help them express their personalities yet are functional enough to make their day run smoother and therefore helping them, in this small way, to make their reality as they desire. The ‘enchanted’ is a reminder of her first love - ballet. It being so beautiful yet the dancers are restricted by their bound feet. Her training had taught her that the lightness does come with huge effort and restriction on the dancers side. This must never be guessed by the audience though. It is an enchanted world a bit like our memories when growing up in two places. Experiencing this throughout her life she realized that it was possible to make your reality enchanted too. nina.ehni@gmail.com http://my.lcffirstmove.co.uk/graduates/7526 www.showtime.arts.ac.uk/ninaehni www.ninaehni.com uk.linkedin.com/pub/nina-ehni/38/b61/2b7/ CREDITS - IMAGES LCF ANNUAL 2013 Creative Director Rob Phillips Photography, Hill & Aubrey Model Chen at Select Hair, Pace Chen LOOKBOOK Styling Coco Ehni Photography David Sessions Models Coco Ehni and Hero Ehni

>>OLIVIA HOWICK This collection is for sale as one off garments-prices on request. Bags and Shoes can be made to order. http://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/LillyHowick?ref=seller_info Olivia Howick is a Surface Textiles for Fashion graduate specializing in embroidery and embellishment, with a passion for transforming unexpected materials into luxurious fashion embellishment. Her graduate collection: ‘Medicate Me’ is a high-end ready to wear womenswear collection, that demonstrates the collision of contemporary and traditional approaches to medicine, through the exploration of Native American culture and advances in scientific medicine. The collection draws upon a textile tradition, and transforms it to demonstrate a clinical aesthetic which will appeal to the contemporary consumer. Exploration of new materials, in particular the use of PVC, has allowed for highly creative and innovative textile development through embroidery processes, that reflect on traditional craftsmanship, whilst evoking a clinical and medicinal aesthetic. Transforming materials is becoming an increasingly important aspect of Olivia’s work. This collection saw PVC hose pipes cut, dyed and stitched to become PVC beadwork. Combining this with satin stitch work and screen printed fabric, Olivia likes to work with both traditional aspects to textile design as well more unconventional material. Integral to Olivia’s practice is her illustration and drawing. Specializing in highly detailed hand rendered work, her illustration style is graphic, yet rich in textile inspired texture and detail. Olivia was selected as a finalist for the Nina de Yorke fashion illustration prize, and has also been shortlisted to compete to illustrate for the Maria Luisa website. Olivia was selected for the LCF Press Exhibition 2013 and exhibited a sculptural textile piece which demonstrated the concepts surrounding her Final Collection, as well as showcasing new textile development. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Seth Yeung was born on 1 January 1987. After years watching his mother knitting dog outfits for pets, Seth acquired not only her industry experience but her passion and drive for knitting. The Hong Kong native began his career working as a fur and textile designer with top brands like YSL and Yves Salomon. Seth’s experimental textile and directional vision quickly landed his winning collection “spread” in YDC10. He went on to study at the prestigious London College of Fashion and got chances to intern for Giles Deacon, Gareth Pugh and Sibling. With all of these experiences wrapped under his needle, Seth launched his namesake label, a line of edgy knitwear with a youthful touch. It attracted immediate press accolades from vogue.com, SCMP, appledaily and fashion156.com. Today, Seth is focusing on heading his own eponymous label. He has consistently produced a tight collection with quirky unconventional material and combinations; developing his own textile each season and offered a new angle of knitwear and excitement to his costumers. Seth Yeung’s restless obsession for his textile has inspired him to create a fresh and innovative style that is entirely his own. NZCA Lines / New Atmosphere

BA (Hons) Costume for Performance

My FMP was a collaboration with the band NZCA Lines on a video for their upcoming single - New Atmosphere. A scientist grieves at the loss of his love during the birth of a new protective atmosphere. Of which they sought together, in our future desolate Earth. Cairo Athens glows in nostalgia and unrestrained abandon, on the other side of the physical and moral world. In Cairo Athens we see a controller. She wears a design based on a collapsable structural origami. Constructed from laser cut plastic and aluminium. In hope of a new world, two scientists roam the desolate earth, in atmospheric suits and breathing apparatus, in hope of creating a new atmosphere. I currently work as a freelance costume assistant within TV, film and music. I am interested in art direction and set design as well as costume and was also responsible for all the locations you can see in New Atmosphere.

Print SS14

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear

Look Book Location: lightship95 photographer: Sam Copeland Stylist: Sophia Probett models: Greg, Ty @ select and Danny @ lcf st LCF Annual 2013 Photographer, Hype D Creative Direction, Rob Phillips Beauty, Pace Chen  Model, Danny @ LCF St  Press Release The image of pirates conjures up images of childhood icons such as the infamous Captain Hook, Long John Silver or even the more recent Captain Jack Sparrow. However pirates, to some, will conjure up a different image and a very different kind of nautical buccaneer. For SS13 Michaelyn Thomas-Coxon has taken inspiration from dusted off super 8 footage of 60s pirate radio renegades to create a playful and practical debut collection. The joie de vivre mix of bright prints, oversized jackets and hidden nickel hardware detailing create a new psychedelic twist on 'nautical'. The collection is highlighted by the use of bright hues and kaleidoscopic floral acid prints. The vivid rust red and teal compliment murkier tones of blue grey, navy, green, peach and yellow, to form a vibrant balance of colours reminiscent of 60s photographs and still Super 8 images. The print which draws from acid rock album covers and vintage prints, adorns simple staple pieces such as t-shirts, trousers, shirts and bags, generating warm layers of interest through out the collection. Michaelyn has also designed and developed her own silicone screen print technique which she has used in acid yellow almost as a highlighter on dry suit style roll neck jumpers. This technique inspired directly by the grip on boats and the rubber of wet and drysuits, shows the experimental nature of her research and extent of personal creative investigation. Her outerwear garments have been carefully designed using technical fabrics and techniques to ensure practicality as well as a strong aesthetic. Chrome nautical fastenings have cleverly been integrated into the designs adding interesting details which compliment the simple shapes of the outerwear pieces. Frosted vinyl pieces add a layer of translucence, generating an alluring array of textures and colours. The collection has a ready for anything vibe, illustrated clearly in the moving images lookbook. http://issuu.com/michaelynthomas-coxon/docs/blow_me__ss13 http://issuu.com/michaelynthomas-coxon/docs/workbook_mthomas-coxon Press: http://blog.trendstop.com/2013/05/gfw-ones-to-watch-michaelyn-thomas-coxon/ http://www.mixmag.net/fashion/fashion-news/eyes-wide-open-for-michaelyn-thomas-coxon http://milkandblue.com/following/sophiaprobett.com/Michaelyn-Thomas-Coxon-SS14-Look-Book http://blog.stylesight.com/denim/isko-x-london-college-of-fashion Website: http://michaelyncoxon.wix.com/michaelynthomascoxon#!contact/c24vq

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

Oksana Anilionyte I would like to thank Saga Furs for a wonderful sponsorship. Collection is based on idea of a soft control. The collection is an investigation into inter-relation of minimalism and modern women. I found my inspiration in Michelangelo Antonioni films L’Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), Eclipse (1962) and Il deserto rosso (1964). His films concentrate on how the modern world influence people and their feelings. Personal feelings, doubts, moods are substance of the films. The works and processes of Robert Morris, Tony Cragg and Daniel Arsham sculptures and abstract painting of Dale Frank served as the initial inspiration for the silhouette, colour, texture and details of the collection. The aim was to mix different techniques and inspirations to reach new and unexpected levels. I embraced the complexities and simplicities by different techniques to reinvent a version of femininity. Robert Morris felt sculptures led to create new ways of using seams to express the fluidity of line. The collection is a lot about the lines that are so pure, so clear, that they convey simplicity in their perfection. The purity is combined with texture that comes from tufting embroidery and soft fur to create a new level of feelings that garments create when touched. A dialogue between time and timelessness runs through the progression of the minimalist aesthetic which is felt in fluidity of seam lines. The collection incorporates a range of luxury fabrics (cashmere, wool, silk, fur, leather) to examine the balance between textures, silhouette and a purity of line. Copyright © 2013 Devika Rattu ______________________________FLORAL DECAY Devika Rattu is a Surface Textiles Designer specialising in Print through traditional screen-printing and digital printed textiles. Her work explores printing and dyeing techniques with a modern twist by distorting and warping her artwork to create something distinctly unique. Her Spring/Summer 2014 collection Floral Decay is a high-end womenswear collection, which stemmed from the idea that man-made cites are created by destroying natural landscapes. Then when man no longer has use for the structures, the invasion of nature and the decaying process takes over and creates something delicately beautiful, fragile and unique. Looking at the visual record of physical decay shown in the work of Marchand and Meffre’s ‘Ruins of Detroit’ the photography explores abandonment by people, society and the presence of past lives within the derelict buildings. The collection draws on traditional print processes of Devore and dyeing used in a contemporary way with unconventional fabrics. The techniques have been extensively refined to showcase a highly creative development of textiles. Both techniques required long periods of time to explore, test and perfect, creating a distinctive collection. The dyeing and printing process has been a fundamental aspect to the collection. The importance of colour is paramount to Devika’s vision through her collection, especially the transformation of her artwork into printed textiles. An integral part to the development of Devika’s work is her floral illustrations. Specialising in organic watercolour paintings rich in colour, distorted and warped to form graphic structural shapes, which won her a prize for Chelsea Flower Show competition and an annual membership to the Royal Horticultural Society. Then developed for the illustration competition Nina De Yorke and used to create an instillation for the 2013 LCF Press Exhibition. ______________________________EDUCATION London College of Fashion Ba (Hons) Fashion Design Technology_Surface Textiles 2010-2013 London College of Fashion Foundation Diploma in Art and Design 2009-2010 ______________________________WORK EXPERIENCE Anna Sui -New York- Pattern Making Intern July-September 2012 Giles -London- Sample Room Intern January-May 2012 Freelance Print Designer_ Mirjam Roudén -London- Design Intern April-May 2011 ______________________________ ACHIEVEMENTS Runner up_Chelsea Flower show t-shirt competition Annual membership for The Royal Horticultural Society Collaborative photo shoot, producing 2 dresses and a headpiece for Fauna & Flora

jessicahearnshaw.com Jessica Hearnshaw is an Accessories Designer based in London who's focus is around the design and craftsmanship of high quality conceptual leather goods. This collection’s focus is on accessories that have a integral relationship to what they contain. That are as fascinating to unwrap, as a gift is to open. Inspired specifically by traditional japanese packaging which has a strong minimalist aesthetic. A key notion of japanese packaging is that the gift and the act of unwrapping the gift, is just as important as what is inside. This art form would wrap a given object in whatever materials lay at hand. The outcome was often not only practical for storage and transporting the object but also produced a simple beautiful shape free of all excess and extravagance ----------------------------------------------- Credits: Images 1 - 5: Art Director: Benjamin Thapa, Photographer: Giulia Zucchetti, Model: Max @ Profile, Stylist: Irene Manicone, Makeup: Nichola Mai Images 6 - 9: Art Direction & Photographer: Benjamin Thapa Image 10 - 11: Photography: Anthony John Sayer Creative Director: Rob Phillips Beauty: Pace Chen Model: Rosemary Banks

JAMAICAN ME CRAZY'Don't want Jackie, Give dem Paul instead, Dem don't want di sweetness between di leg..' Banton, B . (1992) Boom Bye Bye. Jamacia: Shang Muzick Brogan Toyn’s S/S 2013  graduate collection, ‘Jamaican me Crazy’  contends against frequent homophobic dancehall lyrics, by creating ‘expressive’ street wear for the modern man.  Through the amalgamation of research, aggressive 90’s hip hop trends are combined with the promiscuousness of Jamaica’s dancehall Queens, consequently redefining common contemporary constructions of the male identity in contemporary fashion. Collaborating with textile designer Zoe Sterling, ‘Jamaican Me Crazy’ ignores familiar connotations of masculinity in order to create an unconventional sportswear S/S13 Menswear collection. Juxtaposing common culture with subcultures, Brogan creates clothes for men willing to push image boundaries beyond the norm of the day, instead hyper exaggerating them. Representation of the black gay male in contemporary fashion is relatively absent as patriarchal values still influence the majority. Although, commonly it has been long thought that it is a homosexual customer that consumes outlandish modern menswear trends. Something which has been allegedly underground , emerging in the 80s and 90's and documented in films such as Livingstones 'Paris is burning' is now becoming a trend. Queens. Proportions within ‘Jamaican me Crazy’ remain unbalanced due to the amalgamation of inspirations. Influenced prominently by the provocative outfits of the Jamaican dancehall Queens, the collection rearranges masculine shapes in order to reverse gender restraints. Referencing dancehall contemporaries in hip hop,  Brogan adopts classic street style proportions to conflict with risque silhouettes, crop tops vs. basketball shorts. Focusing heavily on the context of colour within menswear and in order to balance an overtly sexualized concept, a juxtaposition of colour has been enforce. Enhanced pastels compliment the risqué silhouettes as they distract from erotic undertones and encourage the energy of the dancehall. Unconventionally luxurious, Brogan does not use classic performance fabrics. Instead, collaborating with textile designer Zoe Sterling, sequins adorn nearly every look and increase the collections flamboyance. Rainbow furs creep along the edges of garments while tight crotches are emphasized by printed, metallic lurex fabrics. As ‘Jamaican me Crazy’ adopts outlandish street style and contradicts obvious urban aesthetics, sequined crop tops only emphasize this further.
